- On today's Game Chasers Billy takes the Apple II he found for $40 bucks to The 8-Bit Guy, a local vintage computer hobbyist. They will find out if it works, restore it to its former glory, and see whether or not it was worth the money to pick it up.

This video was good on its own with 8 bit guy and Billy, but Melvor’s inclusion took it up another level and made it fantastic.

Always nice to see a system saved from potential land fill. It cleaned up pretty good too the 8-bit Guy did a good job getting it all working.
The Apple II is a very nostalgic system for me, played Castle Wolfenstein in the science labs at college and thought it was fantastic at the time.
I am lucky to have a working system as well.
I'm glad there was a follow-up to the grotty Apple II you picked up. Very cool to see it working again! I also watch 8-bitguy and didn't expect him to show up but he was definitely the right choice.

I have a full apple IIGS set that I restored, it was a fun and challenging process learning how to disassemble everything, how to handle a CRT, how to recap power supplies, and how to restore a floppy drive, and now it proudly sits on my desk

Nah, Im kind of glad they didn't cleaned it first, imagine what will they do to clean it up, they probably will just spraying it with powerwash to clean a car while it actually need just a bit of wipe...lol
The Microsoft card is an add on, Its purpose was to simplify porting Microsoft's computer-language products to the Apple II.

Although unprepared to take orders at the West Coast Computer Faire, a Microsoft executive accepted 1,000 business cards from interested parties on the first day;[6] Compute! reported that the company was "inundated" with orders.[1] The SoftCard became the company's largest revenue source in 1980,[10] selling 5,000 units in three months at $349 each, with high sales continued for several years. For a while, the SoftCard was the single most-popular platform to run CP/M,[11] and Z-80 cards became very popular Apple II peripherals...."
That Apple II computer booting up gives me some mega Alien movie vibes with the green text and the sound.

I remember an old guy at work (not so popular) was sharing his postcard collecting at a meeting and nothing was said but I'm pretty sure everyone thought he was just a crazy old man and I wonder if we are going to be the same with retro games.

I remember an oversized joystick called a bit stick that we used for doing graphic work on an apple2. You could turn the stick when in its central position clockwise or anti-clockwise to zoom in or out on your work. That was around 1985.
The 8bit guy is a legend and i so much enjoyed this ep….the oldest computer gaming i have is the Nintendo game and watch donkey Kong 2 and oil panic 🤘🏾and i used to love my Commodore 64 with my Atari along with the nes back in the day

That 'language card' you pulled out that said MICROSOFT on it, is actually a z80 softcard. It allows you to use CP/M and other z80 CPU based software. It's not a language card, but it does have some ram to interface with the z80 CPU on the expansion card.

Billy really does have a genius for storytelling in this format - besides a great video and crossover, that was the best profile of David (The 8-Bit Guy) you could get. Shows his talent, love, and dedication to preserving this part of computing and gaming history. Gotta hand it to these chodes... even chose to not fart in his presence. Keep up the great work!

Really enjoyed this. So cool to see it working. Would love another update if you get the memory expansion working! I love tinkering with electronics when I get the time, this has inspired me to keep my eye out for an old retro computer. We had an Apple of some kind growing up, might have been a 2. Would be cool to tinker with one again.

The Apple II is relatively easy to work on, and parts are readily available. Shouldn't have any problem finding a replacement memory expansion card. If it were me, I'd replace all the capacitors in the power supply, especially the RIFA's.

i remember as a 13-year-old back in 1986 my school had an apple ii & a apple iic. it wasn't until year's later in the 90's i went to goodwill & i picked one up for $15 & i still got it today.
