You're the Best jeff😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Is still have to watch the video, but if you end up not mentioning how Aoi is the manliest man for the idol sequence I'll call truck-kun
Edit:You have saved yourself
Mr. Mother's-Basement, what's the track that you were playing just before 29:01, as well as the track that starts just after 32:07?
Can't emphasize enough how important and great this review is. Giving the notoriously overworked animators their dues by name, providing cultural context that certainly flew over most people's heads, hyping and highlighting the references to HxH which certainly did not. All-round amazing video Jeff ❤
For the record, yuji didn’t actually force a black flash. In the manga, the narrator clarifies that, “itadori is so amazing that he makes you THINK he’s using it at will.”
Aoi Todo doesn't need the power of friendship, he's got the power of undiagnosed schizophrenia.
Or a Persona...

Mahito running away from Yuji at the end is the greatest Villain Eats Shit moment since Mustang and Envy in FMAB
100% agreed, same energy
Mahito even has very similar abilities to envy
@@alexboyer6691 It's a bit wild to me that so many people compare Mahito's powerset to Luffy, when it's so clearly much more of a mashup of Envy from FMA(B) and Overhaul from MHA
@alearnedman I think its the creativity, and that kind of wild energy, luffy happens to be a high profile vaguely similar pick. Parasyte has some similar stuff too, just way more constrained. And even envy doesn't quite hit the same levels, taking over other people as both cannon fodder and literal tools.
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!
Small moment, but I love Todo's quick smile as he and Yuji run up the stairs together. He really enjoys kicking ass with his best friend.
i think you misspelled Brother.
It's such a nice touch
@UNGGodYT FACTS but I think you mispelled "BROZA!!"
I think you misspelledaru "MAI BESSTO FRIENDO!"
Not anymore.
I understood Yuji’s face injury as a callback to Sukuna manifesting as a tiny mouth back in the first Mahito fight. Even though Sukuna doesn’t interfere in this battle the injury on the cheek is a reminder that Itadori is becoming more and more like him.
Before the close up shots of the face injury I initially thought Sakuna was popping out as a cheek mouth
yep yep yep yep yep!!!
I agree with looking like him in terms of power but not like him like him
Mahito's end, for me, fells better than Yuji actually killing him. He was used. He was treated as simple ammo. All the liberty he wished was destroyed. He didn't just die. He suffered in agony. A very well deserved agony.
He died the way most of his victims died: as a disposable, helpless tool.
Yeess, I think that's my favorite bit of dramatic irony in the show so far. Patchface finally got a taste of his own poison, and it doesn't look like he was a fan in the end! :p
Plus, Nobara and Nanami went out with a brave face (poor choice of words)
unlike Mahito being reduced to a sniveling wreck and no dignity
I find it nice that he ends up being used just like how he used so many people.
fuck mahito
I love how todo just casually high fives mahito with an death ass smile on his face like hes thinking "i totally shoulde have died here"
After 2 seasons of Mahito's constant taunting and traumatizing of Yuji, this fight was a prime example of "f*ck around and find out."
Aoi Todo really has the spiritual wisdom of a master Buddhist monk. He finally uncovered the secret to the ancient paradox: "what is the sound of one hand clapping?"
The answer he came to: "Clap with someone else's hand."
Brilliant. Unparalleled brilliance.
@@timothymclean The other answer was "lmao, gottem" when he made Mahito shit his pants at Aoi's bluff.

The "ft. Itadori" is just straight up a crime but I'll forgive you because it's funny
I swear ft Itadori just gets more and more accurate the further the series goes. lol
@@r.k845 I was just referring to how Yuji gets more and more sidelined (intentionally by the author) the further the series goes, especially in the next arc.
Yeah, cus Yuji fr cooked this arc. But Todo's swag outshines him😂
In so many ways, Yuji is the man with the ability to get the job done, but almost always requires major help from others to even get to the point where accomplishing said job is realistic.
And honestly, that's much more preferable to so many other series where the MC is the only person who can solve the problem, but they take forever to get there and the supporting cast has to break themselves failing to win until the MC shows up.
Just compare Todo in this fight against Guy facing off against Madara. Or even 50% of the fights in Dragon Ball while they're waiting for Foku to show up
My boy really switch to support after his whole squad was down
people were pissed off about that absolute masterpiece of a moment, just because Todo wore a schoolgirl outfit for like 3 frames? Fuck them, that scene was phenomenal
And it's totally in character. Todo wouldn't give a fyling fuck abt ppl thinking it's weird, because he knows how fucking based it is. Truly the Bro of all time.
@@robinbanksy2926 he has to be Takada's biggest fan, no matter what the wardrobe of such a role is.
None of these people have the respect of Aoi Fucking Todo
I think it's worth noting that every member of the Disaster Curses died in an ironic fashion.
Hanami, who previously stated he wasn't arrogant enough to face Gojo, drops his only protection right in front of Gojo.
Dagon, who looked the least threatening out of the curses and told the humans "don't underestimate us", pays no heed to Toji or Maki because they seem weak to him.
Jogo, who kinda got treated like a joke by his own allies, was praised by his killer for being one of the stronger beings he'd faced and was later revealed to be desired by the big bad as having a powerful ability.
And Mahito, who betrayed his allies and destroyed human beings to use as pawns, was betrayed by his ally and destroyed to be a pawn to a human being.
Sukuna admiring Jogo makes sense when considering Sukuna's CT is just slashing, a simple concept, but given an extreme amount of power to make it terrifying. and overwhelm any defense. Likewise Jogo's is 'just' summoning lava and related phenomenon, but given a massive degree of power to overwhelm an enemy. Makes sense Sukuna who likes to use a simple concept and apply overwhelming power to it would appreciate that in Jogo.
@@AnakinFury It being a simple ability with many applications at many ranges is probably why Fake Geto wanted it too. Dagon's technique nearly crushed even Maki and would be useless to F-Geto in enclosed spaces, and Hanami's technique was only good at mid-to-long range.
@@coulsonintahiti Hanami was carried by the fact they're extremely durable, something Geto couldn't get. Dagon's might've been useful to have, mainly just to spam fish shinigami in domain as it assures a great offense, but generally Jogo's is just that concept but much more effective
Honestly anyone BESIDES Gojo or Sukuna would struggle with Jogo because by base you'd need to be able to avoid the lava which already boils most things to death from being near it alone. Anyone who didn't reinforce themselves with hefty amount of CE (Gojo) or was physically strong at base (Yuji) would've easily died, and you'd need abilities which can distantly attack the lava to properly beat it back (Sukuna)
@@AnakinFury Geto can already spam spirits at his enemies, so a technique that just let him do more of that wouldn't be very helpful.
@@AnakinFury true.

It's not mentioned in the video, but when Mahito hits his Black Flash on Todo, you can see a few frames of the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis, representing Mahito realizing his true form.
Its mentioned a minute after your timestamp though...
@@FoxLeGrande no, he mentioned when they fully show and explain the imagery, Zunkel is talking about a couple of frames while mahito is punching todo.
oh shitt, the detail in this fight is insane
I didn't notice Yuji doing Gon's Jajanken pose before, but when i heard Todo talk about clapping bein an aclimation of the soul.
I immediately lost my shit because i love that moment in HxH.😂😊
The fact that Yuji uses a technique from another anime to help himself get an edge in the fight is so ridiculous and meta and I love that
😂😂😂 fr
I love the detail you can see at 39:14 where, as Yuji's shadow looms over mahito, there's a conspicuous hole in the shadow where Yuji's heart ought to be. It's not exactly deep symbolism, but that one little touch really appeals to me
Damn! I didn't see that. Nice detail.
😮😮😮
For the record, yuji didn’t actually force a black flash. In the manga, the narrator clarifies that, “itadori is so amazing that he makes you THINK he’s using it at will.”
I wish the narrator would've done the black flash narration, it would've been so cool
It certainly seems that he intended to use it wether or not he'd be able to

Mahito did a "We aren't so different you and I" moment with Yuji and instantly regretted when he said "Yeah". Nice change of pace.
"We're the same." "Yeah and." "...Shit i was hoping thatd be more effective." "run the pockets."
Not the best card for a psychopathic murderer to play, but he did it anyway.
Mahito running away from yuji and yuji hunting him down like a wolf was SO BADASS🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👑👑👑👑👑👑

You know JJK is one of the greats if it inspired Geoff to bring back Animelee
"An applause is the acclamation of the soul." is like my favorite line in the entire series.
Scary to think that most of what Mahito did he improvised or learned in the middle of the fight, now imagine if he had had a few centuries to mature and train like the other Disaster Curses.
My take was that his improvisations and short existence are part of his character design. Humans are adaptable and cruel that's what makes them and mahito so terrifying. Also some of humanity's most awesome achievements were during and caused by conflict. Humans are also short lived in the grand scheme of the earth humans are young. So is mahito in comparison to the enviroment curses
Please *NO*
Not sure the Disaster Spirits are centuries old. Definitely not Dagon. They are seemingly killed periodically by Sorcerers and then are reborn. So they could be anywhere from centuries to only a few years old depending on how under the radar they have been
@@alestone5615 that's a really good take, and it makes it so the character makes sense in terms of how it develops, not just his starting point, but op is right anyway. Mahito would've been the strongest curse probably, in time (at the end, being the humanity curse kind of makes him the curse curse)
Consider, though, that most his maturation occurs *because of* his fights against Itadori (and to a lesser extent Gojo). He adapts and improves precisely because his opponent is such a perfect match for and counter against him
i completely forgot that yuji has CANONICALLY probably read hunter x hunter, i love this fight even more now
I've been a huge fan of Nobunaga Shimazaki's since all the way back in 2013, it makes me so happy to hear people finally give him recognition with his performance as Mahito! The man makes fantastic noises (^u^)
They were so wonderfully annoying that it made Mahito's death all the more satisfying.
Mahito yelling “SHIT” after Todo tagged him to bring in Yuji to clean his clock with that direct hit is one of my favorite moments in anime
The shot of the wolves watching over the ledge with a single scarred white wolf is so great. But only half as great as Todo's imagination sequence ❤️🔥
Man imagine how even more incredible this fight would be if the animators were allowed to sleep we would get something that makes one punch man season one’s animation look tame by comparison
This season was absolute insanity it was back to back to back to BACK action packed animation beauty more than I’ve ever seen in any anime and it reminded me of those stick man fights on TH-cam
The worst thing about Nanami exploding before Yujis eyes is had Sukuna not caused him to have a mental breakdown in the previous episode, he could have reached the subway station faster, noticed the sounds of fighting a lot sooner, and possibly prevented Nanami's death. Sukuna and Mahito continue the tradition of making Yuji's life a living hell.
Had Sukuna not taken over and healed Yuji then Yuji looked like he was about to bleed out. He could have died, but he would have remained incapacitated AT BEST. Sukuna also saved Megumi. Had Sukuna not showed up Mahoraga would have killed him. Sukuna also took out Jogo. Based on how easily Jogo dealt with Nanime, Daibatsou, and Maki I would say Jogo might would have blitzed all the remaining sorcerers in Shibuya. It may have been accidentally, but Sukuna coming out saved all the sorcerers ass BIG TIME. The bad guys may have realistically won then and there if he hadn't of switched.
I love the raw confusion Mahito seems to feel when he sees the insides of Todo's pendant because, I was just as confused at the time. The following 500 IQ play from Todo to use Boogie Woogie by clapping his hand with Mahito's was probably the best moment of the entire fight for me.
That part where Todo and the hallucination of Takada-Chan beat down Mahito is a pure cinematic masterpiece! Just a glorious showcase of the best boy in JJK!
I already cried over the episode but damn even just Geoff describing the relationship between Todo and Yuji, as well as his immaculate bravado and coolness, made me shed a few more tears for his sacrifice and loss
Thank you for noting the platonic nature of the Todo/Itadori relationship because so many people think us fangirls be buggin' but there are a ton of other relationships that, as you said in another video have "no heterosexual explanation" in Jujutsu Kaisen. People are constantly acting like shippers are crazy when we are just picking up on subtext. Also, I honestly couldn't stand Todo until this season of the anime, but now I have respect for him and why folks love him so much. It just took me a while to come around I guess.
I liked todou the moment he came on the screen.
Knew it would be fun whenever he's on screen.
Translation: Todo isn’t a bishounen.
@@KennyMatthewsMonster lmao that may stop some shippers but trust me, it wont stop all of them (see: Golden Kamuy fanbase)

@@AJ-pu1qs and it wouldn't have stopped all of them. I'm sure there is Yuuji Todo stuff out there.
I'm just calling out this specific person's lies.
the fact that mahito doesn't have to stay the same proportions is great because it allows for the animators to go insane with his facial expressions and body langauge in a way that not many characters can do, but they handle it with such grace that it doesn't feel weird or out of the ordinary when mahito suddenly has giant eyes and a thing body and tells geto that he knows about all his ramblings because after all he was made of humans
23:30 I think that one of the coolest thing Todo has ever done is take off his jacket, only to later rip off his shirt when Yuuji joins the fight. Like he can only truly get into fight mode when his brother is there.
I deeply appreciate that you pointed that there’s a difference between “weak” and “vulnerability” it actually takes great strength to let down your guard and be vulnerable with others, even those you know love you.
And here I, a fool, watched Sukuna fight Jugo the week that came out and thought "Well, there's fight scene of the year right there." Oh how wrong I was. This season was just absurd with the number of greats.
the choice to mix the finished animation with gengas to avoid claims is actually really cool... it's a constant reminder that the animators are working themselves to the bone making this anime, so this fight becomes all the more impressive.
The psychotic personality in wanting to kill everyone close to the main character along with his ability to conform his limbs into weapons makes me think Mahito is 100% inspired by Elder Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho. Absolutely incredible villain.
Who's still fighting eternally, mind you!
Todo showing up and saying something along the lines of “arms are just decorative” is THE MOST ARMSTRONG THING since Armstrong himself, and I love seeing these moments in hype fights
Todo has taken part in the best fights in each season imo. His cursed technique makes the most interesting yet somehow grounded fight coreographies
I do love how dub Nobara called Mahito a little bitch haha

I'm actually surprised that you missed this.
This is the exact same shot of Star Platinum throwing a building at DIO during the final battle of the 90s OVA.
If you slow the video down to 0.25 speed, you’ll see Yuji trade places with a rock imbued with curse energy. It’s so quick though that you’ll blink and you miss it. And since the rocks already blend in with the wall and ground, it’s very easy to miss. I only just now noticed there was something there and had to slow the playback speed down to catch it.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m not the brightest when it comes to seeing and understanding all the context and deeper meanings that make moments like these special. So thanks for doing these videos! It gives me so much more appreciation for a medium and stories I already love
Todo really is the best to ever do it, coming in at the end with a killer line, epic lighting, and sensational gravitas to just absolutely lie his ass off. The fake swap is one of my favorite tricks he can pull, and the fact that he hadn't actually done it in the fight up until that point just made it work all the better.
aoi todo is my son, my comrade, the love of my life, they crippled my boy and he was STILL the MVP of the fight, I’m so proud of him, he is my favorite character of perhaps anything ever made, thank you for showing him the respect he deserves
The way they give Yuji a little bit of Sukuna's hairstyle in the final scenes of his fight with Mahito is a masterstroke. Not because he's accepting Sukuna as part of himself neccisarily, but that he's finding his killing edge in that moment.
I absolutely loved that Nanamin’s hand and cleaver are unaffected when Mahito kills him… he kept fighting until the very last moment
Honestly, Todo is just peak everything.
You've infected me with your enthusiasm, to the point that now I can't help but feel utter joy whenever his magnificent presence graces my sight.
He has definitely grown on me too! I found him a bit arrogant in season 1, but his performance in shibuya changed my perspective.
We should take a moment to thank ALL of the artists that were brought on to animate this season of jjk. Many have been working sleepless nights or have not seen their families due to working all day, sleeping at the studio and continuing again.
THANK YOU. MB could have brought awareness of that in this video because only 1line of acknowledging that isn't enough.
AOI TODO FOREVER. FOR. EV. ER. His hallucination scene when he first decides Yuji is his best friend from childhood is the funniest scene in all of manga/anime for me. I laughed and laughed until I had tears in my eyes. GREATEST CHARACTER IN ALL OF ANIME.
This guy, he gets it!
I rewatch Todo's Black Flash scene once every couple of days for the music alone. I can't believe how hard they elevated a moment that was already beyond peak!

Thanks to all animators who dedicated their hearts just to us happier!
Even working in this incredible hard conditions (not only mappa) they delivered PEAK
34:19 When Yuji punches so hard it splits the water, all I can think of is Sukuna doing the same thing with lava against Jogo. The scene at 34:36 where Yuji prepares to land a Black Flash is reminiscent of some images of Sukuna's faces during the same fight as well.
Yuji and Todo are now officially crowned as the Mixup Kings, gifted by the Anime Pope himself.
Todo is a muscle sage in his wisdom and insanity. It’s amazing how much stronger Yuji is after every teaching
The literal hand puppets were such a great homage to Elder Toguro mocking Genkai's death.
As someone who lived in Shibuya for years and still hangs out there frequently, the care taken with the setting was mindblowing. I can honestly say that I recognized every locale, even the bathrooms! That part of the city has changed quite a bit in the intervening years, but the show is a perfect time capsule of 2018 Shibuya.

They 100% showed us how Yuji was swapped when Todo appeared. At first, I was thinking the same thing but as the fight went on, you see him switch with pebbles. He does that when he saves yuji. You can even see it in this video. There’s a frame where you see a small blue glow when Yuji is swapped. That was the pebble Todo swapped Yuji with.
Thats what I thought as well when I watched it

@@TheFakeMakotoYuki hey sometimes you miss small details and thats okay
A moment that I have come to particularly appreciate is the bit where Mahito is talking to Sukuna in the domain. Why does Sukuna not destroy Mahito on the spot? I think that it’s because Mahito is showing the exact kind of singleminded drive that Sukuna just criticized Jogo for lacking. Seems like a cool character-building moment for both Mahito and Sukuna.
The music video scene is one of my favorite things in existence. I could watch it for hours. It’s truly a peak creation of humanity. When I initially watched it with my friends, we were all going crazy at the sheer perfection of it.
The HxH references were legendary. Thank you for breaking down what made this fight was so epic. My biggest qualm with Akutami is not killing our fav character Nanami, but not letting Itadori get to deal the final blow.
I've now got to reexperienced the greatness of this fight three times. First when it was week to week, Second when it was gloriously animated, and now a third thanks to your Beautiful analysis!!! Thank you
The difficulty it takes just to choose a best fight from Jujutsu Kaisen says *a lot* about their quality.

The Todo fight is absolutely my favorite fight set of the last few years of anime. They really truly put everything out there and it shows his character and his connection to the story and MC so perfectly.... It's just satisfaction pure and simple
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the absolutely unreal work and supreme talent/emotional expression of the VA's?
I was confused at first after yuji's cheek was cut open thinking sukuna took over but i liked that the damage yuji took happened to leave him with wounds looking like sukunas markings and loved mahito exhibiting even more fear towards Yuji at the end than he had towards Sukuna
I remember when this video was named "Aoi Todo and his brother vs Mahito" 😟😟
Didn't even realise that it was an hxh reference (i did think about the netero moment when i saw todo standing there with 1 hand) but the idea that yuji could pull off gon's move has heightened my opinion of this fight

24:18 I think it's a nice detail how todo switches yuji before himself. It may just be a nothing detail but I think it shows how strong their bond is
Hold up... the one who came up with th entire skit of Todo fighting with his role model idol against Mahito apologized for coming up with it?
It's one of my favorite moments of the entire season! It was hilarious and very fitting of his character! I 100% back the statement of thanking this absolute genius for this cultural masterpiece.
Please don't ever apologize for something so beautiful. Thank you for this incredible moment in Jujustu Kaisen.
Thank you for crediting the animators' incredible work over the course of these episodes- they deserve to be true celebrities
Todo and yuji’s dynamic is so fun. You can definitely tell that they work perfectly, and has the potential to make them the strongest sorcerer duo in all of JJK. But that makes their dynamic a good thing, and we all know good things aren’t allowed in jujutsu kaisen, not while gege has anything to say about it.
But literally though, you see it all over JJK, hax mean little in JJK, it’s more about strategy and getting the upperhand. It’s why even a completely cursed energy deficiency toji can get the upperhand on god sorcerer gojo. Skill goes a long way.
Ok I have to go on a tangent cause I just got to the nobara part of the video, and that part makes me seethe every time. Nobara was absolutely fridged, by it’s very definition. In story, Mahito does it solely to piss off yuji. out of story, gege does it to piss off the audience and give yuji a reason to be more angry. Afterwards the only mention of nobara is that it’s confirmed that she’s dead. She is not mentioned again, and there is nothing hinted that anyone in the story cares about her story. Condensing all her future dynamics and developments into one death that makes the main character slightly more upset. That is fridging, gege does it all the time. It doesn’t make his writing bad, but it certainly does weaken it.
Ok back to why this fight is so good. Itadori and todo are the pinnacle of jujutsu strategy, the two can do so much against such strong opponents using only boogie woogie, and divergent fists as the only two cursed techniques. Techniques so simple compared to every other cursed technique, but the two are able to use those abilities in a way that triumphs whatever cursed ability anyone can throw at them. The best way I could describe this fight, it’s like, if you’ve ever played guilty gear. You see a Chipp go against, like, any character. That other character just needs one hit, and it’s over. They know it, the Chipp also knows it. But the chipp absolutely wears out the opponent. You can’t help but stand in awe as the objectively stronger character struggles to land a single hit on the Chipp. That’s what I get out of this fight, and it’s always so satisfying to watch.
This fight is the perfect example of what jujutsu kaisen is all about. Filled with the best and worst aspects of this series. This fight just goes to show how good of a writer gege can be, and no matter how many times gege keeps FFFFFFFFUCKING KILLING OFF ALL THE GOOD CHARACTERS I SWEAR TO GOD!!!! IT’S A GENUINE PROBLEM, LIKE ACTUALLY A FUCKING MASSIVE WRITING PROBLEM AND IT PISSES ME OFF!!! I’ll always keep coming back just for the hype moments and genuinely good storytelling 90% of the time when he isn’t KILLING OFF CHARACTERS. Cause I am nothing but a slave to gege’s cruel yet awesome and hype as hell manga.
One nice thing about this channel is Geoff spends whole videos being effusively positive about something cool, whereas so much of the internet is enumerating every single gripe about something people claim to love.
Todo's the embodiment of the phrase "Suffering from Schizphrenia? Nah, I'm enjoying it."
Thank you for mentioning Honehonehone!!!
He did Sukuna flipping vs Makora swimming
And Denji vs Eternity devil, one of most difficult scenes in anime possible
Such a genius 🙏
I've missed Animelee, I would watch 40 mins of you talking about every anime battle ever.
