PRS vs. Gibson. An age-old question and a discussion we will not participate in. There has been said enough on the message boards So we're gonna let the guitars speak for themself so you can make up your own mind! Feel free to start a civilized conversation in the comment section though ;)

I own both. Remember to have the humbuckers set up the same way and how you like them (screw height, etc) to get a fair test. For me the PRS wins everywhere except the classic treble pickup roar with OD. The PRS gets close. But the PRS sounds better clean and stays in tune better than my Tele, and it’s jist built so much better. If I could only keep one, it’s the PRS.

Also have both. The individual string definition of the PRS is better, the LP is muddier. Both are amazing. The LP looks cooler though.

Both are beautiful sounding. Your fingers are doing marvelous things. These tones are wonderful. I would vote for the Les paul especially in the neck pickup. But to be honest you need both.

I have a McCarty . I’ve professionally played a telecaster for years and have tried various Les Pauls as well as a few 335’s . Really nice guitars , all of them . I have every thing I had to bond with them and just couldn’t The McCarty is just a different guitar than the Les Paul and isn’t meant to really compare . As a fender player , the PRS gets me into about any territory I want to go . It stays in tune and plays incredibly. Oh , and I think I sound like me no matter what I play but the PRS would really be the only guitar I would need to do anything I wanted and sound incredible.

That’s a PRS McCarty DC245, they are very rare, built in a limited run with a 24.5 inch scale length. I have a PRS McCarty PF09, made in the same limited run, a fantastic guitar that gets better every year.

I think PRS if you’re going for comfort and ergonomics. But if you’re like me and you’re a sucker for tradition it has to be the LP. Both are gushing with gorgeous tone...beautiful playing as well btw!

I traded a brand new Suhr signature series (Andy Wood modern T) for a new black gold burst DC 594. Both were close in price, but the sound coming from the PRS had me sold. To be fair, I didn’t like the sound of the Suhr I bought, so I traded for a brand new 594. Suhr is on a roll. Zero defects.

I went the other way. First guitar I bought was a PRS SE Custom 24, then a PRS acoustic, then I got Santana and core Custom 22 models and a SE Hollowbody II Piezo. But then I bought a great Les Paul and some Fenders and three Mike Lipe Guitars. The Mike Lipe are the pick of the bunch but I play the Fender & Gibson more now than any of the PRS and the SE Custom 24 was sold.

@@jflynniv Suhr are well made but they sound kind of sterile to me, PRS is the same. I much prefer my Mike Lipe guitars to my PRS models and my Gibson Les Paul now that I've had it Plek'd and set up by Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience in London is absolutely superb. I still own four PRS guitars but the only one I've ever really loved for the tone it has is the Hollowbody II Piezo model which is fantastic.

That LP is a good one! These “tests” are always hard to really decipher, for all the x-factor stuff. They both sound AMAZING 🤩
The PRS had more “bite”? Low-Mid clarity? It would be hard to pick.

They both sound too similar. Trying to decide what to buy. I've played some dogs of Les Pauls. One weighed over 9 lbs. (Oof!) Others the neck didn't feel great. Now, I've played a McCarty I had trouble putting down. The quality control with PRS just wins it for me. Thank you for the comparison. Sound is similar, so it's a matter of the one I'll bond with. Quality wins over name.

Both guitars SOUND great. But keep in mind the horrible nut on a LP
And the string angle is what made me change to Prs
I play in a band around town and the PRS rarely goes out of tune while playing... Which cannot be said for the LP which I have played for years and years AND i grew weary of having to have a brand new LP go to a luthier to work on the nut to keep it in tune!! before I switched to PRS. The PRS is perfect right out of the box!! Many die hard LP fans will always argue that their LP stays in tune but after owning 15 LP's from the 1970's to 2022 ,LP's staying in tune has not been my experience.

  • @talkychris
    @talkychris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You want the Singlecut PRS McCarty 594 with dual volume and tone controls for this comparison and definitely not one with a wrap around tailpiece!!! But that aside a PRS is better built and stays in tune much better. However, the Les Paul looks better and is a better investment long term. Les Paul for a collector, PRS for a player.

It’s like choosing between your two kids. Last year for my Birthday I have had to make this choice and went home with a 594 Wood Library 10 Top. Felt heartbreaking to leave the Custom Shop Anniversary behind. My PRS is magical and I do love it. Still I feel the need for 2019/20/21 Custom Shop with 59 specs. This new runs are best Gibson guitars ever, of course excluding the originals and 2013 and newer Tom Murphy guitars. Sure in between one can find few odd ball lucky strikes to. Though I am amazed the level Gibson Custom Shop has achieved with new runs. Also there seem to be no lemons either. Seems they are now closer to the consistency and quality of the PRS Core line. Although this might sound as insult to someone this is the compliment while Core is industry standard for the consistency and quality. Gibson was not at this level before JC came. BTW as always Sasha makes it look so simple and his playing heals the wounded soul. Great video.

@@markworledge in between I've found my Les Paul. In May I've turned 50 so I've decided to ruin myself financially and try to find me a good Les Paul. For quite a time I was checking all the shops fir the Anniversary and M2M models. In one shop I've found two awesome M2M models. One was beautiful bit wider flame top and the other one was quilted top. That quilted top reminded me on my PRS Wood library and weighted super light 3660 grams. They have had tons of awesome Les Paul's in the store. Although I like quilted tops I prefer flame tops on reissue Les Paul's that are trying to be like real 50's guitars. Anyways went to a shop and got great help from a friend working there. He gave time and brought many beautiful guitars to test. That quilted top was best of them all by then. Then I've asked to try a Murphy Labs gold top they've had there. Hit a cord and git stunned 😀 it was sounding like what you expected original 50's guitar to sound. Big open clear round clean tones. It was louder than other guitars. Till then I was biased against Murphy Lab guitars while they took all the best normal Custom Shop guitars and the prices got pumped up by the shops to silly levels. I was liking gold tops but 59 spec is what I like to play and love the looks of. Medium jumbo frets are easier to play for me and neck profile on 59 and V1 60 guitars is a dream. So I was still going back to other guitars. Took also normal Custom Shop R7 and it was dead and sounded way more muddy. I couldn't resist and now I am happily married with my new love R7 double gold light back light aged Murphy Labs 😀 As a friend said that guitar choose me. He said exactly how I've felt. Every time I took it in my hands there was a grin on my face. It sounds awesome and looks awesome to. Anyhow me being me in the mean time I've made an operation and I've removed all Gibson braided wire and replaced it with vintage correct two ply isolation wire. Even on the pickups were you need to dismantle the pickups. Incredible how much difference it makes. Guitar got even louder and more of the original tone comes out. Way less capacitance to such tone away. Now it sounds ridiculous. So even now you have to be lucky to find outstanding Gibson guitar and even now I've needed to mod it. PRS came with proper wire and everything is perfect. Ergonomics and finish and everything is 10. Gibson costs more and regularly sounds sub par. But again it sounds different and it's original guitar that people have used to make history of so many good music. They both have their place and their sound. I love my PRS and I love my Goldie. No need to choose if you can own both. Anyhow chase is over and finally I have the Les Paul that sounds way I've dreamed of. Well lot of gold tops are legendary to. For example Duanes one from the ABB. Lot of good once out there and mine has joined the ranks to. Me happy 😊 despite the void created in my financial situation 😀
