When talking to fellow runners, I have found that many people are in this mode as they recover from various injuries and illnesses, covid included. Not quite ready to race and just ‘getting fit to get fit’. I recommend running with others, many of whom might be training for a race, and work with them toward their goal. Pull a “Desi Linden at the Boston Marathon”… helping others helped her win in the end.
Thanks a lot Sage! This was some great advice, especially the one about fitness levels dropping being okay=) That is something that can feel pretty crappy!
Thanks for sharing how to keep up our fitness when we have not a lot of time! You were talking about the off season period and taking it easier that period. Now I am running my first marathon tomorrow and I think I trained good enough for that. In 14 weeks another amazing marathon is taking place and I really want to participate in that marathon. I can start a 12 week training programm after resting for 2 weeks, but should I not take some time off? So the question is: how fast after each other should you participate in high demanding races?
I know you made a breathing video about 7 years ago, but would you mind touching on the subject again? In particular if any of your athletes dealing with a deviated septum find any difficulties in training or if mouth breathing has been shown to affect athleticism in any way that you know of? I have seen research that suggests those with nasal obstructions tend to get a much lower quality of sleep, which can lead to many health issues, especially with age.
Not really related but I must share. Wim Hof method while ice bathing (creek for me) I have been running 80-100mpw. I’m only running a 5 mile tune up. I tried to taper. But doing wim hoff twice a day… I’m ‘tapering’ Bopping around light on every step. Still running 90mpw feels BETTER than when I’m running 30-40mpw. I’ve been thru a lot. 26yo I was stabbed in the neck by an Iraq vet. I had become dependent on kratom to boost my run and get me out the door. And all the sudden. I’m boosted. Without external stimuli. Holy fu[k I feel like a new person. If you haven’t tried this. What do u have to lose besides your crappy mindset and feeling?
Great mention of personal goals on local trails! That’s exactly what I’m going for this next three months!
Happy B-Day! 😊

Happy belated birthday to Sandi! People with June 28th birthdays are fast runners!

Am I going to be in trouble if I say....Tom Cruise resemblance. Anyway- always enjoy hearing the Sage advice...thoughts.
It’s like if you combined tom cruise with young Elvis.

If you can’t make yourself spend 10min on a breathing exercise.
Your brain is broken.
Fix it
