Had a tough situation, was defending my first traded feif i paid for, against the northern empire. We had roughly 450, they had 1600. The only way we were able to win was because i was an archer and just kept getting headshots on their strong units at the front lines of the gate. Most tense situation i've delt with.
i had a similar scenario the other day, around 1300 v my 500 half were militas. spent like 2 weeks ingame defending as we slowly chopped their numbers down with each battle but they kept retreating and recovering their wounded and attacking. After a couple dozen battles my own faction finally decided to reinforce when they had 300 to my 200.
Craziest battle I ever had was 3800 troops attacking me in the far east britainnian town. Held just over 300 troops. Had a lot of wildlings and brit elite archers with line breakers and legionaries split with my wildlings before they got the javs. Had to replay the battle 3 times and on the last shot I killed over 1000 being very careful not to die. I think that was the hardest part. Random arrow takes a chunk, random jav. Stressful as hell but holy shit that was a fun battle.
I was in a similar scenario as Aserai, I had just taken over a city with 300 soldiers (my side) and not even a week later the enemy came to besiege it with a army of 1000+. Was able to defend the city for over a few ingame months before being forced to surrender.
I would've tried to manually destroy the siege tower from the wall. Would take a while, but that would probably get that mass of troops unstuck. Hate when sieges get bugged. At least this time it was the enemy and not your troops standing still while archers slowly pick them off.
during sieges, I always use the main gate as choke point and shield wall all my melee infantry there. once blocked, I throw all the catapult's stones above them or outside the gate if they're too many. careful not to hit the ram as they don't take damage if the ram was hit. really satisfying if you get the fire vases as its doing a lot more damage than regular stones
Using a polearm type of weapon such as a Glave is perfect for siege defence. You can swap and murder away all the enemy soldiers climbing up the ladders.
I once ambushed the siege camp and after some time I got knocked out and both my army and the enemy army didn't push, after 20 minutes or so in sped up time, my 14 archers from the walls got 250+ kills. Siege AI's are sometimes bugged and can be broken for the player.
This is why I usually take control of one of the siege equipment on defense so I can get what I want down first and after a few times you get a good idea about the range and aim so long as the soldiers don't get stuck reloading it, I then proceed to manually throw the fire pots if it's a fire catapult into the ladder section as there is huge clusters there, sadly they just run away and get everyone back in seconds as that was before siege got deadly. Never seen them bug out like that before, normally they get onto the wall and seem to wait for something for me but just keep piling on more and more on that wall.
We gota push the upper limits of how many can be reppeled from assault I hope sieges ingame eventually take inspiration from irl ones, would be quite interesting
Don't know if it's a bug, but the new ambush mechanic will always result in the AI launching an assault immediately after, even if you destroyed all their siege equipment in the raid. So all you have to do is let them build a ram, quickly destroy it in an ambush and then they're forced to attack you with only ladders. You can then just mass your archers behind the walls and watch them mow down the enemy as they come up single file. They'll usually retreat instead of fighting to the end, wait for their wounded to heal and attack again, but just repeat this tactic of letting them build a ram/destroy it/force them into attacking with no siege until either they're weak enough to defeat in a sally-out or until allied reinforcements arrive to help you.
I feel like it's really easy to hold the walls in sieges now. infantry, in line formation, manually positioned slightly back for the ladder, will rush anyone who climbs up and then stand back from enemy archer fire again. If you personally control a catapult and destroy the ram there's nothing the enemy can do. I've recently got back into the game and have been grinding a companion only run and quickly found the best way to level is by destroying 3000 strong armies with a 400 man garrison and companions. The annoying thing is that siege armies always run away now, just to fight when their injured are healed. Husn Fulk was the first siege I did this with and I played it about 20 times in a row, until the enemy army ran out of food/prestige and disbanded. This video triggered me; it took me hours! You get nothing in terms of loot, but massive XP gain.
As always thank you for the effort that you put to your videos. And i got a confess to make, i watch your joker experience video once a while cuz it's a masterpiece, i wish more people see that video. Have a great day :).
I believe that AI got a bit broken in the recent patch. It's so passive, even as an attacker in the field battles. If their forces are not massively stronger, they will just wait and stare at the enemy, especially if you have allies in battle. I had to recently kite and skirmish for 30 minutes to compel the enemy to engage. It's so frustrating.
My experience with siege defenses using only 50 companions: 1) always take out the ram at any cost other than your own life. Once the ram is taken out, the AI will default into "Rush gate" mode. In this mode, the AI will not go after your troops and focus on opening the gate. You can then place archers in strategic positions to keep shooting the enemy without having to worry about the enemy coming after them. 2) do not position archers on the walls. It is a death sentence for them since the enemy archers have aim bot and they mostly outnumber you. 3) position archers around where the enemy is going to go up the walls. If they are in rush gate mode, they will b-line to it and ignore the archers unless they are too close to them. Usually, positions that are of the same or higher elevation than the wall are perfect. If there a no obstructions, its even bettet.
You should always try to take command of your siege engines. A catapult should be enough to take down 2 siege towers. Then you can focus on the battering ram since they are very slow. If you can destroy all 3 siege engines it's a cake walk since you can slaughter then while they going up the ladders. You can even use your catapult to 1 shot reinforcement waves too
I play on console and sieges tend to be hard to as the controls for commanding are a bit tricky however I had 1 battle in the same city an attack and defend, I tried to overun the walls but my troops were too scattered so I charged the main gate and fought the entire battle through the streets. On the defense we destroyed the towers and I managed to position some archers at the gate, some got stuck lol, but I had the whole infantry cycle charge the enemy at the gate it was 2 of the bloodiest battles I have ever played around 4,000 dead across oth sieges. I wish I could use your tactics more as I enjoy watching them, sadly console battle don't really let you be too clever Great video Strat
Try my tactic and it always works during siege defense on castle or town no matter how much troop the besieger have. Works on campaign and sandbox. Which troop can be vary. Requirement. 1. Have around 50-70 high tier infantry in your party as a main defense 2. Another 30-50 infantry for reinforcement 3. Archers divided into 5 group, each 20-30 First scenario. If you already in castle/town which besieged, DONT wait until they launch full scale. Wait until besieger built ram. After they just freshly built that, AMBUSH it. (Took some precise timing) Destroy their ram and go back. 2nd scenario (my best tactic). Wait until they finished siege tower. Then do the same. AMBUSH it. Atm, they will have a ram and siege tower(s). What you gonna need to do is destroy their ram and left ONLY 1 BADLY DAMAGED siege tower. Then retreat to your castle/town After you succesfully ambush it. ATTACK. Battle formatiom. 1. Make a group of 50 high tier infantry (2nd scenario) or 2 groups of 40 each. 2. Place them ON THE WALL where LADDER(s) will be manned (need some times to look where the ladder spawn each castle/town). 2nd scenario will only have 1 ladder. 3. Assign shied wall to them and strecth them to cover all the climbing area 4. IMPORTANT. Assign them STOP command. They wont move. (F1 - f6) 5. Put archers on each tower, and onager 6. Let the carnage begin Scenario 1 will start with 2 point of ladder, which they will try to scale it down. scenario 2, with only 1 ladder point, your catapult will destroy their badly damage siege tower. There will be 2 choke point or 1 choke point, according which scenario youll be using. each point will have 2 ladder and each ladder climb 1 soldier. Basically, they will climb to their death, 1 by 1 each ladder. I lost only 10-30 with mixed infantry. Mine was vanilla 1.1.3 version.
I had a siege that looked really bad, outnumbering me 5 to 1, they attacked, then i realised they are all t1 and t2. Long story short, i took my t5 infantry, opened the front gate, led them through the gate and slaughtered the enemies infront of the walls. Ist was epic
Awesome siege! One thing: can you explain what you meant by you don't run out of ammunition? (11:20) Do defending troops in a siege have unlimited arrows and such?
Thanks for watching! That's correct - on siege defense, archers and crossbows have unlimited ammo and don't need to refill at arrow barrels like the player.
I once had to defend a castle with 300 troops under my order, while the enemy had something like 800 elite troops ready to murder the poor militians guarding the walls with me. I don't know how but by abusing the catapult I managed to reduce both of our numbers by half until the king I was serving somehow managed to sign a peace treaty.
Okay, tbh. They need to deal with this somehow. Like, there should be a capture point near the castle gates, so that the player could not hold a single closed point behind the walls. Like, historically even if there was resistance inside the city/castle walls but the main fortification was taken it was the end unless it was recaptured.
@@Strat-Guides They did have a scene for the "inside the keep" battle. I think maybe 2 step siege for the 3 tier keeps is an option where after the point capture attackers face a single wave of keep defenders.
I found these defenses to be REALLY easy. Here’s my advice: Make sure you have catapaults in your castle. While the enemy is laying siege, once youre able to ambush, go in and ALMOST destroy the siege towers and rams. Once that’s done, retreat and then engage in actual battle. When the real battle starts, the catapaults will take out the siege towers instantly, leaving the enemy to only attack from one side where the ram is. Continue to take out the troops via crossbow or bow, and as the almost-destroyed ram approaches, destroy it. Enemy has no choice but to retreat. Rinse and repeat eventually the strength meter will be slightly to your advantage, and then send troops to auto resolve. You should save before sending troops out though. You should win the battle and capture the enemy when it’s all done.
The amount of time and effort you put into these videos AND work AND have a family life I'm starting to think you're either Multiple Man or you are Chat GPT and you just havent admitted it yet.
Now that you can ambush enemy siege engines, making the enemy AI attack immediately, you can literally take out their siege engines, camp by your fire catapult, and get 60 kills by throwing fire pots at the enemies on ladders
The way I calculate the difficulty of a siege defense is how many how many men will my men have to kill each to win, 2 kills for every 1 man is standard, 3 kills for every 1 man is getting hard, if you have very well trained troops it obviously really helps
I was besieged in a castle odds stacked against us 3-1 they built a siege tower and a ram took out the ram but the tower made it to our wall my battanians fought hard but they had so many recruits and we had only a handful of elite troops and ultimately we lost the castle and it was by far the most fun I ever had
U prob could have destroyed the second siege tower since thats where all of the troops were bugged. Once it was destroyed they would have flood into the gate.
Good call! During the stream, Strat, and Chat were discussing back and forth about potentially doing that, or alternatively breaking the ram in the gate. (A chat member suggested that the ram may be stuck in "Ramming" mode, causing the AI to think the gate was impassable). In the end, Strat made the really smart call to avoid disturbing the bugged out troops. Partially because he was on Iron-man mode, and a game crash would have sucked (again lol), and partially because of the famous Sun Tzu quote "Do not interrupt the enemy when he is making a mistake". Such a fun stream to be a part of haha
Dude, i do defence with some 400 people against 3000, it lasts for hours but it can be done, just put fire catapults close to ladders and whenever possible ambush them to ruin the isege engines, scum then climb ladder and you throw the fire catapult charges in the crowd, you lower their numbers drastically
Issue is attacking archers without ammo will just stay in skirmishing positions, rather than charging or atleast taking the walls, which is unfortunate
This happens all the time for me, I take the time to set up and awesome formation and defense and the AI just sits on the other side of the battlefield and doesn't move.
think of all the engineering xp you could of gotten if you manned that onager yourself on the left there, hitting those troops just aimlessly milling around that siege tower on the right.
Wouldn't it be easier to auto archers' initiative in this case? They'd take walls positions again and just shoot those who stuck near siege tower, that's it...
I tried that a couple times, but their archers were much higher quality than the militia archers I had so it was a very bad trade - like 5 to 1. By sending the shield wall first, they soaked up the arrows and allowed the crappy militia archers get some damage in.
when you take out the enemy nobles, the troops sometimes get stuck at their last "command". if that command was charge, you fight. if it was hold, then they just sit there...

In 500hrs still haven't managed to persevere with a no cheat/retreatsploit play through, you put me on the edge of my seat
Perfect example of tactics and game play
during sieges, I always use the main gate as choke point and shield wall all my melee infantry there. once blocked, I throw all the catapult's stones above them or outside the gate if they're too many. careful not to hit the ram as they don't take damage if the ram was hit. really satisfying if you get the fire vases as its doing a lot more damage than regular stones
im proud that you and everyone know the best strategic commander khalid bin walid
Using a polearm type of weapon such as a Glave is perfect for siege defence. You can swap and murder away all the enemy soldiers climbing up the ladders.
Derthert: What is Husn Fulq worth?
Saladin Strat: Nothing!
Also Saladin Strat: All of your precious butter!!!!
We gota push the upper limits of how many can be reppeled from assault
I hope sieges ingame eventually take inspiration from irl ones, would be quite interesting
Amazing move by the enemy!
Baiting you out so they can pummel you with arrows!
That was fun to watch. So many of these sieges just turn into tower defense like games where it all about archer positioning and mazing lol
As always thank you for the effort that you put to your videos. And i got a confess to make, i watch your joker experience video once a while cuz it's a masterpiece, i wish more people see that video. Have a great day :).
Throwing the onager ammo/rocks on the top of enemy blobs from the edge of the wall dose SOOOOO MUCH DAMAGE
They’re just standing there…menacingly!
My experience with siege defenses using only 50 companions:
1) always take out the ram at any cost other than your own life.
They had game of thrones' white walker army vibes. All just standing there still
You should always try to take command of your siege engines.
I wish I could use your tactics more as I enjoy watching them, sadly console battle don't really let you be too clever
Great video Strat
Try my tactic and it always works during siege defense on castle or town no matter how much troop the besieger have. Works on campaign and sandbox. Which troop can be vary.
Requirement.
1. Have around 50-70 high tier infantry in your party as a main defense
2. Another 30-50 infantry for reinforcement
3. Archers divided into 5 group, each 20-30
First scenario.
Then retreat to your castle/town
After you succesfully ambush it.
3. Assign shied wall to them and strecth them to cover all the climbing area
4. IMPORTANT. Assign them STOP command. They wont move. (F1 - f6)
5. Put archers on each tower, and onager
6. Let the carnage begin
Scenario 1 will start with 2 point of ladder, which they will try to scale it down. scenario 2, with only 1 ladder point, your catapult will destroy their badly damage siege tower.
I tuned into this stream exactly as this seige started, how lucky I was!
for a second I thought I was watching a clip of mine when I saw your characters name. guess we all sometimes just wanna rp as the sword of allah
Haha yeah, I'm using him as my character for a world conquest :) Also, been playing KCD lately and I recognize your name haha nice
I had a siege that looked really bad, outnumbering me 5 to 1, they attacked, then i realised they are all t1 and t2. Long story short, i took my t5 infantry, opened the front gate, led them through the gate and slaughtered the enemies infront of the walls. Ist was epic
The guy constantly changes decisions make up your mind bro. Though you really do good strategy and know the game well
Awesome siege! One thing: can you explain what you meant by you don't run out of ammunition? (11:20) Do defending troops in a siege have unlimited arrows and such?
Thanks for watching! That's correct - on siege defense, archers and crossbows have unlimited ammo and don't need to refill at arrow barrels like the player.
hey, it wasn't that kind of a crazy siege but I got plenty of crazy new info from you. thanks a lot :)
If that siege was with RBM enabled it might be the issue why that happened.
No, this one is mod free, it's from the failed attempt, the next attempt he only uses RTS. Both are vanilla
No mods on this one sadly so it's all TW :P
@@Strat-Guides I hope this game will be perfect one day.
Okay, tbh. They need to deal with this somehow. Like, there should be a capture point near the castle gates, so that the player could not hold a single closed point behind the walls. Like, historically even if there was resistance inside the city/castle walls but the main fortification was taken it was the end unless it was recaptured.
Agreed, you could probably sit there and starve the inner keep within a few days time
@@Strat-Guides They did have a scene for the "inside the keep" battle. I think maybe 2 step siege for the 3 tier keeps is an option where after the point capture attackers face a single wave of keep defenders.
You should do a Bannerlord historical tactic video on “The Horns of The Buffalo” used by the Zulu Empire to beat the British
That catapult had a direct shot too that blob.....
If it ever seems interesting please do a video on how to cause a revolt passively to a town!!!
Beautiful siege defence!
I found these defenses to be REALLY easy. Here’s my advice:
Make sure you have catapaults in your castle.
8:05 that was a beautiful shot
Great video, I love to watch this game and get your opinion on the strategies you can put to use. 👏
4:30 your guy sounds like the Gordan Ramsay of Bannerlord
Lol Where's the lamb sauce!?
yeah yeah its satisfying to see that you too get better every time. I like games. Some of them are very....educational in some ways... somehow....
ohh shiz I didn’t realize I was part of the 0 hour gang
The way I calculate the difficulty of a siege defense is how many how many men will my men have to kill each to win, 2 kills for every 1 man is standard, 3 kills for every 1 man is getting hard, if you have very well trained troops it obviously really helps
It's always so amazing to me how utterly useless the walls are for your own archers in these siege videos.
Don't you love how not only the enemy is against you, but the game itself is against you as well 🙃
Using ambush before battle starts gives you an instant win
This happens all the time for me, I take the time to set up and awesome formation and defense and the AI just sits on the other side of the battlefield and doesn't move.
likes me manual control of a ballista...seeya to 2+ bad dudes in a shot
Insane you are so good!
You can break siege towers with axes or weapons that might reset the bug. Also you can break your own siege towers too
I can't believe they haven't fixed that bug yet!!!
The soldiers are waiting outside omg!
3:28 How do you do that? Select multiple squads and combine them.
tell me if you knew how
@@fadifaisal4662 I still don't.
Awesome siege.
Why I am not suprised that when you start to move units manually during defense the entire battle will be bugged
think of all the engineering xp you could of gotten if you manned that onager yourself on the left there, hitting those troops just aimlessly milling around that siege tower on the right.
That was very fun to watch. :)
Wouldn't it be easier to auto archers' initiative in this case? They'd take walls positions again and just shoot those who stuck near siege tower, that's it...
I tried that a couple times, but their archers were much higher quality than the militia archers I had so it was a very bad trade - like 5 to 1. By sending the shield wall first, they soaked up the arrows and allowed the crappy militia archers get some damage in.
man im from brazil and i love yours videos, i dont play banelord because my pc dont run the game but i love you content
