I had nothing better to do, so I decided to go through Smash Ultimate, and divide up the music into different sections. Smash luckily keeps old remixes and new ones separated; so it was pretty easy to go through and find certain tracks. My findings: There is a grand total of 1108 songs in Smash at this current time. Smash Ultimate Original Tracks/Remixs - 188/1108 (18% of the full ost) Music taken from Other Smash Games - 355/1108 (35% of the full ost) Original Unedited tracks from other games, or Medleys just using unedited tracks from other games - 475/1108 (47% of the full OST)

@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 The dividing difference between the two; is the 188 are tracks exclusive to Smash Ultimate like newer Remixs or Lifelight, while the other 355 were taken from Smash 64/Melee/Brawl/and both versions of Sm4sh. They weren't made just for Smash Ultimate, they were carried over from the previous games. When you narrow it down, only 18% of the OST is new music; the other 82% is taken from other Smash games, or just taken from their source games. I was also originally planning to take a look at the collection and see how many songs are repeated tracks; but I didn't have the patience to say we have 8 versions of the Mario Ground theme, DK Jungle theme and Hyrule Theme.

The reason it’s called “the lost level medley” is because it uses the extended ending theme introduced in the lost levels. Still no excuse for so many Mario 1 songs.

I think the culprit is that a lot of these songs have been grandfathered in from past soundtracks. They used to outright replace them, but Ultimate included all of them. So: Duplicate sources.
That's why it never really bothered me as much. The repeat trackd didn't really steal any slots from other songs, it was more to give us more old stuff. Still looks ridiculous though.
Ok, then instead of remixing songs that are already in the game like ten times why not remix something different, or even bring original themes in their base form to not make the remixes as redundant
@@Duskool Remixing something different is what the majority of new tracks in Ultimate did, with only a handful of the new remixes being remixes of older songs. The remixes made of the same song are almost entirely from the past four games.
They never remixed SMB1’s Castle Theme, SMB2’s Underground Theme, SMB3’s Athletic Theme, any songs from the first 3 Paper Mario games, one of each different song from all of the M&L games, more songs for the Mario Kart games, the title theme and overworld from Zelda 2, Linebeck’s Theme from Phantom Hourglass, Tower of Spirits from Spirit Tracks, Ravio’s Theme from A Link Between Worlds, Rito Village from BotW, one song each from 3 Metroid games, Float Island and Bubbly Clouds from Kirby Dream Land, Grape Garden and Yogurt Yard from Kirby’s Adventure, Sea Stage from Kirby Super Star, Planet Popstar and Neo Star from K64TCS, Magolor the Far-Flung Traveler from Return to Dream Land, a lot of songs from the Star Fox games, A LOT OF SONGS FROM THE POKÉMON MYSTERY DUNGEON SERIES GODDAMNIT, and more Earthbound music that ain’t the same songs we already have.

Where's bowser's theme? where's the secret slide song?" You just say "oh it's okay that we don't have those, Bomb Omb Battlefield is good." Like yeah, Lost in thoughts is good, but we don't need it four times. The developers could have made more people happy by just ripping three other fates songs instead of remaking lost in thoughts multiple times.

To answer why there's so many doubles, there's a large variety of composers for smash and we got more each game. Each of them got to choose songs they wanted to remix and when given the opportunity to work with one of your favorite franchise people want to remix the most iconic music, which is often the main theme. I mean, just look at fan remixes, how many people have remade the Zelda theme and almost never touch the music that's missing from smash.
@@TurretBot The first 4 games there where songs Sakurai specifically made sure made it in, but in Ultimate he gave the composers 100% freedom. One of them spent the entire time making nothing but Fire Emblem remixes, that's why FE has the most new remixes out of any series in Ultimate.
the fact that there's only 1 whole song (including it's remixes and alt language versions) for fates, when it has a wide library of amazing music in itself is a criminal offense. seriously. I think people would be ok with corrin's inclusion if it meant having great music. (past below flow is one of my favorites from fates)

Also they use Blue Birds 1 which barely sounds like fighting music, meanwhile Blue Birds 2 exists which is faster and actually sounds like battle music. It’s not like they’re afraid to use sequel tracks either, since the Fruit Basket OST in Ultimate is actually the sequel track

They didn’t put any original songs from Punch-Out!! and didn’t even think to make some remixes for that and Super Punch-Out!!, which I didn’t even know existed until recently.
They had to remix the DK Rap so that it could be shortened to be the length of a normal Smash match, and yet Jump Up, Super Star! is 4 minutes long while the DK Rap is only 3 1/4 minutes long. Not to mention the fact that they made it worse at Dixie Kong's part.

I despise when they remove lyrics from songs and categorize certain songs “original” when they’re not. There’s probably a reason why, but it just sucks man. Also in my old channel I got a copyright claim from Nintendo years ago because of the song environmental noises, no joke.
The reason why some lyrical songs are stuck as instrumentals, like Snake Eater from Metal Gear or Tomorrow is Mine from Bayo 2, is because the singers essentially own the rights to the lyrics. It’s likely the singers denied giving the rights for the lyrics so they had to remove them instead.
Don’t forget how the game & watch series has its own album despite having two songs while duck hunt and ice climber have the same amount yet don’t have their own album

The one thing about the sound menu that still bothers me, to this day, is Mario World’s Athletic theme being listed as a song from the Yoshi series (and the stage too, I don’t care that it’s called Yoshi’s Island, it’s still a stage based on the Mario series).
SAME, Yoshi’s Island Melee and its song are super clearly Super Mario World, and Super Mario World is a MARIO GAME, it’s not even the same Yoshi’s Island from the actual Yoshi’s Island games (that’s also a stage 7-7)
Yeah it really bugs me that you can't play most of the Super Mario World songs on the Super Mario World stage when you could in Smash for Wii U. Honestly, does Yoshi even need to be considered its own franchise in Smash? Donkey Kong and Wario being separated is fine I think, they have their own unique casts of characters and enemies and DK and Wario rarely appear in Mario games outside of spinoffs, so I feel they've kinda built their own identity. As for Yoshi, his games share several enemies with Mario such as Shy Guys and Piranha Plants, many of the characters introduced in the Yoshi series such as Kamek and the baby characters began appearing Mario games too, and even Yoshi himself frequently appears as a side character in Mario games.
@@dreamlanderjoel8162 maybe Yoshi is considered its own series like Wario because there’s a decent many games under the Yoshi name, he has his main platformer series, the Yoshi’s Island games, many other platformers, like Yoshi Story, the crafty Yoshi games, and the other more experimental ones like Topsy Turvy and Touch & Go, the puzzle games of Yoshi Cookie and Tetris Attack (the American Panel de Pon), and Yoshi Safari, the Yoshi games sell very well, and people really love Yoshi a lot. This is not like Luigi’s Mansion that has like 3-4 games total, the Yoshi series has been nicely active for years with quite a neat amount of games to offer beyond the main ones, and it’s even being featured in the Super Nintendo World theme park and all. Also DK is not part of the Mario series, he makes tons of guest appearances, but DK and his world are a series on its own, consider Mario and DK brother series, as they were born in the same game, but they parted ways in order to better establish their own identity (DK with the Country games, and Mario with the Super Mario games), and later reuniting from time to time in the Mario Spin-Offs, and even making the Mario vs. DK series. While Wario and Yoshi are more like children to the Mario series, mainly because both the first Yoshi’s Island and Wario Land, the main games of their series, they started out as “sequels” to Mario games (Wario being a following to Super Mario Land 2, and Yoshi a prequel to Super Mario Bros.), but soon enough they dropped the Mario in their titles when they realized Yoshi and Wario could hold on their own, although they still share many elements (and characters) with Mario, so they do have their own series, but they’re still dependen to Mario in one way or another regardless. Oh and that includes WarioWare, the series are an evolution of the mini-games that were in the Mario Artist Studio games, and the games make many many direct references to Mario games in the 9-Volt and less often in the final Wario stages, Mario also making cameos in micro-games (along with lots of other Nintendo characters, but Mario is very prevalent still)

Not to mention that Halland and Dalarna originally sounded extremely clam and relaxing in Minecraft Dungeons but Smash remixed them to sound more upbeat and energetic. If those themes can be remixed to fit Smash then why can't Sweden or the Minecraft Title Theme be remixed to fit Smash too? I believe the real reason for the exclusion of Minecraft tracks was actually licensing issues.

Just gonna reply to my own comment to say some music packs I'd like based on franchises that are not repped yet (some of these could be added for a character dlc though). Danganronpa, Rhythm Heaven, Shin Megami Tensei, Parappa the Rapper, and Jet Set Radio
Oh I recorded a lot more that I had to cut - I went into the lack of earthbound battle music, why Yoshi's story is so overrepresented, and the kirby music. But at that point it started to get really incoherent so I may make a part 2 if people keep liking this one ⭐
Oh that has been a huge crime. Especially in the remix department. I mean, who asked for a Dreamland Credits remix. Why couldn't we get something like Mind in the PROGRAM or Sky Tower.
@@castform7 I mean, I asked for it, but I also wanted some tracks from underrepresented Kirby games like Grass Land 1 (KDL3), Sky Tower, Main Theme (Mass Attack), Meta Knight's Theme (Star Allies), Haltmann's theme (Robobot), and Void Termina. Sakurai just doesn't seem to like any Kirby game that he didn't develop.
My biggest complaint is mainly with the Fact that A - There is basically No Rhythm Heaven music in the game when RH is Basically nintendo's main music based game And B - They chose Blue Birds 1 over Blue Birds 2 when BB2 is way more suited to fighting
Same with how Peach has been playable since Melee, Princess Peach’s Castle being a stage since Melee as well, and they’ve never bothered to add her castle’s song, that’s also been remixed quite a lot, some remixes even being very fitting for battle
Honestly I don't mind the redoing of the themes because sometimes the fresh new take is really great in each new game. You have to remember that the arrangers often have the digression of choosing what they want to do, so part of the repetition is on them.
I just want some actual Tropical Freeze music man. Big Top Bop, Punch Bowl, Windmill Hills, Busted Bayou...this game has such excellent music but we only have one song from it so they can shove more jungle themes in there I guess. The first two songs are ones I'm especially sad about not being in, they'd be so fitting in Smash.
@@thehuman2cs715 I don't think Windmill Hills would be good for smash... Not because it's bad, but because it doesn't fit the battle ambient that well, kind of like Saria's theme or The Comet Observatory theme.

The biggest missing tracks IMO: - Greenhorn Forest - Vs. Dark Samus - Road Taken (Roar) - Maxie/Archie Battle! (OrAs) - That Town Three Years Later (Dog’s Song) also, I agree just give us a straight up Punch Out Medley w/ the different challenger styles.
The selection of Sonic tracks is so dispassionate. There are no tracks on the list that make me feel that someone on the smash team pushed to get a song they really liked into the game. It just reads like a checklist of ‘one main theme from every major Sonic game’, plus the tracks they already had from Brawl. (Except they cut the one track from Sonic Rush, because it’s not like that had one the most unique soundtracks of any Sonic game or anything!)
@@Supersheep64 Honestly, I kind of think that about Sonic representation in Smash in general. Sonic's icon isn't something cool from his series, it's the Sonic Team logo. Sonic doesn't have a cool new victory theme, he has his Sonic 06 one. Sonic's stages don't show off what his series is like, it's just two Green Hills. Sonic doesn't have a moveset meticulously detailed with tons of references, it's just taken from the ONE fighting game he had almost 30 years ago and 2 spindashes. His personality isn't really shown off well in Smash Bros either, none of the flashiness and tricks that Sonic does

I don't mind multiple versions of the same track because most of them do sound different enough for the different versions to be equally interesting. What I wish to say is, dlc shouldn't be the only reason more music gets added. For example, the release of Monster Hunter Rise or Paper Mario and the Origami King. Surely they could have brought a few music tracks, not just a handful of spirits. Or when I look at the Pokémon list. I certainly love the tracks that are in. But it does kind of sadden me to see not a single song from the spinoffs. Especially considering Mystery Dungeon is just as praised as mainseries for music.
That’s something I noticed with Ultimate’s soundtrack, they focused too much on quantity instead of quality. With every genuinely cool remix, there’s another remix that’s not as good. They also removed some original songs from the previous games and replaced them with their “not as good” remixes. The music for the DLC characters were at least consistently enjoyable.
Yeah, the ones I like the least are the Mother and Fire Emblem soundtracks, the Mother one because there're so many great songs and none of them are in the game, before I listened to the ost of Mother 3 I thought it was just as funny and weird as EarthBound, but then I heard all the songs and the feelings that they bring and... Man would I prefer having 10 more Mother 3 songs over any versions of the Zelda main theme. But then with FE is just that it all sounds the same, the only one that sounds different is Lost in Thoughts All Alone, but why are there 4 versions of that song!? I'm sure they could've found better music in the soundtrack, and if it's gonna be this samey anyway, than just don't have it in the game and get better songs from other series
I also Dislike how Inconsistent the order is, here is an example Champions Road (from SM3DW) is placed with the Galaxy songs because it is a remix of Gusty Garden Galaxy But the NSMB2 overworld and athletic Theme aren't grouped with the original NSMB theme, even though they are both remixes of the NSMB overworld theme
One track i wish is the D-Minds revenge battle theme, but also eventualy a new remix of a sonic track, i mean the only smash remix we got is angel island from brawl.
It's the same problem as them using the same "first level" archetype for their stages over and over and over again. Why are most of the DK levels the same old jungle? Why is there no dedicated Bowser's Castle stage? Why did they add Windy Hill when it's basically Green Hill again?
Yeah the inclusion of Environmental Noises is baffling, and the original DK Country map menu is weird to include, they should have just kept in the remix. I feel like if they were adding music for DK or Pikmin if they were a new DLC character today, they definitely wouldn’t have included those slower tracks. Banjo-Kazooie has mostly uptempo remixes, so I would think they’d do the same with those franchises’ music if they were new today.
The 7 versions of Jungle Hijinx frustrate me to this day. No Aquatic Ambience, Fear Factory, Mining Melancholy, Disco Train.... and there is no musical representation of DKC3. DK got the shaft hard when it comes to musical representation.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks about this. One example would be there being FOUR versions of the song “lost in thoughts all alone” representing Fire Emblem fates.
The Smash OST is probably the most dissapointing thing about the game, because there's so many songs they could've pulled straight from the source and they could've fit perfectly, but they didn't and instead remixed an already remixed song. I was also gonna make a video about this topic and i agre with the Nintendo Land thing, there's quite a bunch of songs they could've included from there and i could talk about this for hours...
Okay we need to talk about Metroid 4.5 Brinstar themes (64, Melee, Brawl, Escape, SR credits) 4 Ridley themes (Brawl, Meta, Other M, Ult.) No music from Metroid Prime 2's campaign, or Metroid Prime 3 But the random noises in the "Battle Lockdown" theme from Other M gets in? And the Zeta Metroid fight from Samus Returns but not the Diggernaut theme? Absolutely baffling lineup
Finally, someone that has the same opinion as mine. Here are some other complaints i have -The little representation of kirby games that sakurai didn't made (why does star allies only have one song) and the fact that none of them are remixes except the squeak squad theme -The lack of Wario Land music -Sonic got 0 new remixes -Mario Kart having so much wasted potential for tracks (we have 5 versions of rainbow road [not that i don't like rainbow road] and we don't even have coconut mall)
@@Improvisado64 only one remix per game, of some that were behind 2006, and none of the kirby games of the 2010's have remixes, yet dream land and air ride got yet another remix. Despite having the same quantity they dont have the same quality.
Terry: Hi! You probably don't know who I am, and Sans showed up at the same time, so here's a truckload of music. I love most of Ultimate's remixes, but what did they do to Molgera's theme? It's unrecognizable without the chickachickachicka.
I think they tried to go with the "please everyone" route, which makes sense... except that the one original they didn't include was Gladion's theme, like what the hell. Remix just isn't the same...
The fact that they cut _so_ many songs really hurt. Ai no Uta and Brawl's second ground theme were some of my favorites. I'd also like to add that I would've _loved_ more Nintendo Land songs and a new Game & Watch arraignment.
It’s kinda bothersome that both are orchestral themes, like if you wanna do this song we already have, then do it more differently so it’s justified to have a second one, like the Luigi’s Mansion medleys, one is very heavy on the original game and done almost like something from a waltz or kinda orchestral, while the other mixes the original with Dark Moon, and is more fast paced with more electrical instruments (sorry that’s the best I can describe them, but still). AND they should keep composers from picking a song that’s already got enough remixes, like come on, there are more than enough World 1-1 remixes from Super Mario Bros., while there’s NO song from the castle theme from that very game!
It bugs the hell out of me that of the 13 songs listed under "Pac-Man Series", only 3 of them are actually from the Pac-Man series. And two of them are remixes of the same song! There are so many fantastic Pac-Man songs, so Pac-Man having such a tiny music selection is a crime.
I do know some of this is both because Smash Ultimate has the "everything is here thing" and that Masahiro Sakurai kind of just let his composers do whatever the hell they wanted to do.
It's sad there isn't more Sonic music considering their soundtracks are better, and after Generations and Mania where they give old songs new life. Anyone would differentiate between Green Hill from Sonic 1, Green Hill Modern, Green Hills (Sonic 2 GG), Green Hill Act 2 Mania, and Green Hill from Sonic Forces.
Actually dissapointed about the lack of Pacman in this video. He has 3 songs of his own, 2 of which are just remixes of the same 2 songs from the original arcade game, and Pac-Man Park, which heavily uses the "Intermission" motif too, despite being a mostly unique song. The rest are just other Namco songs that really belong in misc but for some reason are grouped under Pacman to inflate the count. 0 songs from any of the World games, Championship Edition, Arrangement, ect.
Pac Man World 2 was my childhood and it's really disappointing to not have any of that OST in Smash. Scuba Duba/Shark Attack/Yellow Pac-Marine are among my favorites.

Something I don't hear much complaint of is Kirby music, I think: all the remixed themes but one from Squeak Squad (a 2005 game) are from games prior to Sakurai leaving HAL, and even then games with themes taken without changes into Smash are underrepresented, Ultimate had barely any Planet Robobot music if not zero, Triple Deluxe and Star Allies both have a lot of great OST that wasn't included (TDX had themes like Enemy's Revenge or Bouncing Boss Battle iirc), and Star Allies only had 1 theme in Ultimate, whereas the game has a lot of great OST suiting Smash Ultimate (Misteen Ocean could be a great beach-themed music track for Ultimate, I think)
You mean to tell me they have added a bunch of overworld themes from SMB and TLoZ, but not put in songs / more songs that are different and better like the osts from Super Paper Mario and The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess?

I have so Many: Masked Dedede, Galacta Knight, the Doomer themes, Beautiful Prison, Vs. Magolor, Moonlight Capital, Star Dreams's themes, and maybe Hyness (Unhooded). So Many :)
This is only tangentially related, but smash has three versions of Green Greens and Gourmet Race, but we're still missing great stuff like Factory Tour, any of the animal buddy themes (this is probably the most egregious omission for me), Sand Canyon 1, Ripple Field 2, modern boss tunes (RtDL and TD have some of the best ones in the series imo), Spring Smash Factory, Reflected Laughter, any of the Star Dream Battle Themes... I'm grateful that we got stuff like CROWNED and Sky Tower, but those are just rips. New Smash remixes for the Dark Matter Trilogy and the modern titles like DL 1/Adventure/Super Star always get would be awesome. Also, quite frankly, the fact that we got the Dream Land credits theme instead of Returning to Dream Land as the credits music for Kirby's classic route shouldn't frustrate me as much as it does. At least it's still a good remix...

I had nothing better to do, so I decided to go through Smash Ultimate, and divide up the music into different sections. Smash luckily keeps old remixes and new ones separated; so it was pretty easy to go through and find certain tracks.
My findings:
There is a grand total of 1108 songs in Smash at this current time.
Smash Ultimate Original Tracks/Remixs - 188/1108 (18% of the full ost)
Music taken from Other Smash Games - 355/1108 (35% of the full ost)
Original Unedited tracks from other games, or Medleys just using unedited tracks from other games - 475/1108 (47% of the full OST)
Smash Remixes / Original Music - 543 / 1108 (53 % of the Full Ost)
Original Unedited tracks from other games or Medleys just using unedited tracks from other games - 475/1108 (47% of the full OST)
@@anthonygerardotorresgonzal6269 The dividing difference between the two; is the 188 are tracks exclusive to Smash Ultimate like newer Remixs or Lifelight, while the other 355 were taken from Smash 64/Melee/Brawl/and both versions of Sm4sh. They weren't made just for Smash Ultimate, they were carried over from the previous games.
When you narrow it down, only 18% of the OST is new music; the other 82% is taken from other Smash games, or just taken from their source games.
I was also originally planning to take a look at the collection and see how many songs are repeated tracks; but I didn't have the patience to say we have 8 versions of the Mario Ground theme, DK Jungle theme and Hyrule Theme.

The reason it’s called “the lost level medley” is because it uses the extended ending theme introduced in the lost levels. Still no excuse for so many Mario 1 songs.

I think the culprit is that a lot of these songs have been grandfathered in from past soundtracks. They used to outright replace them, but Ultimate included all of them. So: Duplicate sources.
That's why it never really bothered me as much. The repeat trackd didn't really steal any slots from other songs, it was more to give us more old stuff. Still looks ridiculous though.
Ok, then instead of remixing songs that are already in the game like ten times why not remix something different, or even bring original themes in their base form to not make the remixes as redundant

Remixing something different is what the majority of new tracks in Ultimate did, with only a handful of the new remixes being remixes of older songs. The remixes made of the same song are almost entirely from the past four games.

To answer why there's so many doubles, there's a large variety of composers for smash and we got more each game. Each of them got to choose songs they wanted to remix and when given the opportunity to work with one of your favorite franchise people want to remix the most iconic music, which is often the main theme. I mean, just look at fan remixes, how many people have remade the Zelda theme and almost never touch the music that's missing from smash.

They had to remix the DK Rap so that it could be shortened to be the length of a normal Smash match, and yet Jump Up, Super Star! is 4 minutes long while the DK Rap is only 3 1/4 minutes long. Not to mention the fact that they made it worse at Dixie Kong's part.

The reason why some lyrical songs are stuck as instrumentals, like Snake Eater from Metal Gear or Tomorrow is Mine from Bayo 2, is because the singers essentially own the rights to the lyrics. It’s likely the singers denied giving the rights for the lyrics so they had to remove them instead.

The one thing about the sound menu that still bothers me, to this day, is Mario World’s Athletic theme being listed as a song from the Yoshi series (and the stage too, I don’t care that it’s called Yoshi’s Island, it’s still a stage based on the Mario series).
SAME, Yoshi’s Island Melee and its song are super clearly Super Mario World, and Super Mario World is a MARIO GAME, it’s not even the same Yoshi’s Island from the actual Yoshi’s Island games (that’s also a stage 7-7)
Yeah it really bugs me that you can't play most of the Super Mario World songs on the Super Mario World stage when you could in Smash for Wii U.
Honestly, does Yoshi even need to be considered its own franchise in Smash? Donkey Kong and Wario being separated is fine I think, they have their own unique casts of characters and enemies and DK and Wario rarely appear in Mario games outside of spinoffs, so I feel they've kinda built their own identity. As for Yoshi, his games share several enemies with Mario such as Shy Guys and Piranha Plants, many of the characters introduced in the Yoshi series such as Kamek and the baby characters began appearing Mario games too, and even Yoshi himself frequently appears as a side character in Mario games.
@@dreamlanderjoel8162 maybe Yoshi is considered its own series like Wario because there’s a decent many games under the Yoshi name, he has his main platformer series, the Yoshi’s Island games, many other platformers, like Yoshi Story, the crafty Yoshi games, and the other more experimental ones like Topsy Turvy and Touch & Go, the puzzle games of Yoshi Cookie and Tetris Attack (the American Panel de Pon), and Yoshi Safari, the Yoshi games sell very well, and people really love Yoshi a lot. This is not like Luigi’s Mansion that has like 3-4 games total, the Yoshi series has been nicely active for years with quite a neat amount of games to offer beyond the main ones, and it’s even being featured in the Super Nintendo World theme park and all.
Also DK is not part of the Mario series, he makes tons of guest appearances, but DK and his world are a series on its own, consider Mario and DK brother series, as they were born in the same game, but they parted ways in order to better establish their own identity (DK with the Country games, and Mario with the Super Mario games), and later reuniting from time to time in the Mario Spin-Offs, and even making the Mario vs. DK series.
While Wario and Yoshi are more like children to the Mario series, mainly because both the first Yoshi’s Island and Wario Land, the main games of their series, they started out as “sequels” to Mario games (Wario being a following to Super Mario Land 2, and Yoshi a prequel to Super Mario Bros.), but soon enough they dropped the Mario in their titles when they realized Yoshi and Wario could hold on their own, although they still share many elements (and characters) with Mario, so they do have their own series, but they’re still dependen to Mario in one way or another regardless.
Oh and that includes WarioWare, the series are an evolution of the mini-games that were in the Mario Artist Studio games, and the games make many many direct references to Mario games in the 9-Volt and less often in the final Wario stages, Mario also making cameos in micro-games (along with lots of other Nintendo characters, but Mario is very prevalent still)

I believe the real reason for the exclusion of Minecraft tracks was actually licensing issues.
Apparently the actual reason (as far as I've heard) is that they couldn't get the rights to the original Minecraft tracks made by C418

The one that always gets me is how they made Dark Samus playable but didn't think to include her theme.
Same with how Peach has been playable since Melee, Princess Peach’s Castle being a stage since Melee as well, and they’ve never bothered to add her castle’s song, that’s also been remixed quite a lot, some remixes even being very fitting for battle
Honestly I don't mind the redoing of the themes because sometimes the fresh new take is really great in each new game. You have to remember that the arrangers often have the digression of choosing what they want to do, so part of the repetition is on them.
I just want some actual Tropical Freeze music man. Big Top Bop, Punch Bowl, Windmill Hills, Busted Bayou...this game has such excellent music but we only have one song from it so they can shove more jungle themes in there I guess. The first two songs are ones I'm especially sad about not being in, they'd be so fitting in Smash.

The selection of Sonic tracks is so dispassionate. There are no tracks on the list that make me feel that someone on the smash team pushed to get a song they really liked into the game. It just reads like a checklist of ‘one main theme from every major Sonic game’, plus the tracks they already had from Brawl.
(Except they cut the one track from Sonic Rush, because it’s not like that had one the most unique soundtracks of any Sonic game or anything!)

Sonic's icon isn't something cool from his series, it's the Sonic Team logo.
Sonic doesn't have a cool new victory theme, he has his Sonic 06 one.
Sonic's stages don't show off what his series is like, it's just two Green Hills.
Sonic doesn't have a moveset meticulously detailed with tons of references, it's just taken from the ONE fighting game he had almost 30 years ago and 2 spindashes.
His personality isn't really shown off well in Smash Bros either, none of the flashiness and tricks that Sonic does
From DK 64 I would add the Arena theme, it's so fitting for smash

I don't mind multiple versions of the same track because most of them do sound different enough for the different versions to be equally interesting. What I wish to say is, dlc shouldn't be the only reason more music gets added. For example, the release of Monster Hunter Rise or Paper Mario and the Origami King. Surely they could have brought a few music tracks, not just a handful of spirits. Or when I look at the Pokémon list. I certainly love the tracks that are in. But it does kind of sadden me to see not a single song from the spinoffs. Especially considering Mystery Dungeon is just as praised as mainseries for music.

That’s something I noticed with Ultimate’s soundtrack, they focused too much on quantity instead of quality.
With every genuinely cool remix, there’s another remix that’s not as good.
They also removed some original songs from the previous games and replaced them with their “not as good” remixes.
The music for the DLC characters were at least consistently enjoyable.
Yeah, the ones I like the least are the Mother and Fire Emblem soundtracks, the Mother one because there're so many great songs and none of them are in the game, before I listened to the ost of Mother 3 I thought it was just as funny and weird as EarthBound, but then I heard all the songs and the feelings that they bring and... Man would I prefer having 10 more Mother 3 songs over any versions of the Zelda main theme.
But then with FE is just that it all sounds the same, the only one that sounds different is Lost in Thoughts All Alone, but why are there 4 versions of that song!? I'm sure they could've found better music in the soundtrack, and if it's gonna be this samey anyway, than just don't have it in the game and get better songs from other series
Not to mention they put in both Mario Kart Stadium and Mario Circuit from MK8 but they're just two variations of the same song
Sonic has been in 3 smash games and still just has one single remixed song.
And it’s the same remix that was in Brawl, so they haven’t made any new sonic remixes in all the time since then
Part of me hopes that we get a gen 8 Pokemon in the DLC solely so the Sword and Shield gym battle theme can be in the game.
One of the reasons for DK Rap being shortened could be because Chunky’s verse had a swear in it somehow.

Champions Road (from SM3DW) is placed with the Galaxy songs because it is a remix of Gusty Garden Galaxy
But the NSMB2 overworld and athletic Theme aren't grouped with the original NSMB theme, even though they are both remixes of the NSMB overworld theme

One track i wish is the D-Minds revenge battle theme, but also eventualy a new remix of a sonic track, i mean the only smash remix we got is angel island from brawl.

It's the same problem as them using the same "first level" archetype for their stages over and over and over again. Why are most of the DK levels the same old jungle? Why is there no dedicated Bowser's Castle stage? Why did they add Windy Hill when it's basically Green Hill again?

Yeah the inclusion of Environmental Noises is baffling, and the original DK Country map menu is weird to include, they should have just kept in the remix. I feel like if they were adding music for DK or Pikmin if they were a new DLC character today, they definitely wouldn’t have included those slower tracks. Banjo-Kazooie has mostly uptempo remixes, so I would think they’d do the same with those franchises’ music if they were new today.
The Super Mario World Athletic remix is grouped with the Yoshi songs instead of Super Mario
That's so it can be used on the Yoshi's island stage from Melee, but it troubles me as much as it troubles you.
The 7 versions of Jungle Hijinx frustrate me to this day. No Aquatic Ambience, Fear Factory, Mining Melancholy, Disco Train.... and there is no musical representation of DKC3.

One example would be there being FOUR versions of the song “lost in thoughts all alone” representing Fire Emblem fates.
The Smash OST is probably the most dissapointing thing about the game, because there's so many songs they could've pulled straight from the source and they could've fit perfectly, but they didn't and instead remixed an already remixed song. I was also gonna make a video about this topic and i agre with the Nintendo Land thing, there's quite a bunch of songs they could've included from there and i could talk about this for hours...

4.5 Brinstar themes (64, Melee, Brawl, Escape, SR credits)
4 Ridley themes (Brawl, Meta, Other M, Ult.)
No music from Metroid Prime 2's campaign, or Metroid Prime 3
But the random noises in the "Battle Lockdown" theme from Other M gets in? And the Zeta Metroid fight from Samus Returns but not the Diggernaut theme?

Finally, someone that has the same opinion as mine. Here are some other complaints i have
-The little representation of kirby games that sakurai didn't made (why does star allies only have one song) and the fact that none of them are remixes except the squeak squad theme
-The lack of Wario Land music
-Sonic got 0 new remixes
-Mario Kart having so much wasted potential for tracks (we have 5 versions of rainbow road [not that i don't like rainbow road] and we don't even have coconut mall)
@@Improvisado64 only one remix per game, of some that were behind 2006, and none of the kirby games of the 2010's have remixes, yet dream land and air ride got yet another remix. Despite having the same quantity they dont have the same quality.

I love most of Ultimate's remixes, but what did they do to Molgera's theme? It's unrecognizable without the chickachickachicka.
I think they tried to go with the "please everyone" route, which makes sense... except that the one original they didn't include was Gladion's theme, like what the hell. Remix just isn't the same...

How has Pikmin 2's boss theme not been included yet? Heck, even Pikmin 1 had good battle themes in Beady Long Legs and Emperor Bulblax.
The fact that they cut _so_ many songs really hurt. Ai no Uta and Brawl's second ground theme were some of my favorites. I'd also like to add that I would've _loved_ more Nintendo Land songs and a new Game & Watch arraignment.

Hey, it's not THAT bad! It has the cool underground theme remix... and... aah... yeah, that's about it, it's bad.
It’s kinda bothersome that both are orchestral themes, like if you wanna do this song we already have, then do it more differently so it’s justified to have a second one, like the Luigi’s Mansion medleys, one is very heavy on the original game and done almost like something from a waltz or kinda orchestral, while the other mixes the original with Dark Moon, and is more fast paced with more electrical instruments (sorry that’s the best I can describe them, but still).
AND they should keep composers from picking a song that’s already got enough remixes, like come on, there are more than enough World 1-1 remixes from Super Mario Bros., while there’s NO song from the castle theme from that very game!
The Zelda track list is a travesty.
At least we got Saria's Theme and the Castle Theme, still sad there's, like, one song from Link's Awakening

It bugs the hell out of me that of the 13 songs listed under "Pac-Man Series", only 3 of them are actually from the Pac-Man series. And two of them are remixes of the same song!
There are so many fantastic Pac-Man songs, so Pac-Man having such a tiny music selection is a crime.
I agree, why doesn't Pac-Man have his songs from the Pac-Man World trilogy added in this game is beyond our comprehensions.

I do know some of this is both because Smash Ultimate has the "everything is here thing" and that Masahiro Sakurai kind of just let his composers do whatever the hell they wanted to do.
It's sad there isn't more Sonic music considering their soundtracks are better, and after Generations and Mania where they give old songs new life.
Anyone would differentiate between Green Hill from Sonic 1, Green Hill Modern, Green Hills (Sonic 2 GG), Green Hill Act 2 Mania, and Green Hill from Sonic Forces.
Actually dissapointed about the lack of Pacman in this video.
He has 3 songs of his own, 2 of which are just remixes of the same 2 songs from the original arcade game, and Pac-Man Park, which heavily uses the "Intermission" motif too, despite being a mostly unique song.
The rest are just other Namco songs that really belong in misc but for some reason are grouped under Pacman to inflate the count. 0 songs from any of the World games, Championship Edition, Arrangement, ect.
Pac Man World 2 was my childhood and it's really disappointing to not have any of that OST in Smash. Scuba Duba/Shark Attack/Yellow Pac-Marine are among my favorites.

Something I don't hear much complaint of is Kirby music, I think: all the remixed themes but one from Squeak Squad (a 2005 game) are from games prior to Sakurai leaving HAL, and even then games with themes taken without changes into Smash are underrepresented, Ultimate had barely any Planet Robobot music if not zero, Triple Deluxe and Star Allies both have a lot of great OST that wasn't included (TDX had themes like Enemy's Revenge or Bouncing Boss Battle iirc), and Star Allies only had 1 theme in Ultimate, whereas the game has a lot of great OST suiting Smash Ultimate (Misteen Ocean could be a great beach-themed music track for Ultimate, I think)
Wistful Wild from Pikmin 2 needs to be in Smash

This is only tangentially related, but smash has three versions of Green Greens and Gourmet Race, but we're still missing great stuff like Factory Tour, any of the animal buddy themes (this is probably the most egregious omission for me), Sand Canyon 1, Ripple Field 2, modern boss tunes (RtDL and TD have some of the best ones in the series imo), Spring Smash Factory, Reflected Laughter, any of the Star Dream Battle Themes... I'm grateful that we got stuff like CROWNED and Sky Tower, but those are just rips. New Smash remixes for the Dark Matter Trilogy and the modern titles like DL 1/Adventure/Super Star always get would be awesome.
Also, quite frankly, the fact that we got the Dream Land credits theme instead of Returning to Dream Land as the credits music for Kirby's classic route shouldn't frustrate me as much as it does. At least it's still a good remix...
