If you are part of the natural, green, clean and organic beauty movement then you would have noticed the term 'chemical free' But what do people mean when they use that term or when cosmetic products are labelled as ‘chemical free’?
It has been rightly pointed out that from a scientific point of view the term quite simply does not make sense as all matter is a chemical. All matter is made of chemicals. So that begs the questions "are the people that use this term ignorant?", "are they misleading me when they label their product with a term that actually does not exist?" but also more importantly "what are they trying to convey to me about their product?".

Thank you for explaining the "chemical-fee" term , as it is the most often used in natural food or natural beauty product industry to separate them apart from synthetic laden products . It helps me to rethink the proper labeling of my skincare products and brand . This is one of many wise inputs from Formula Botanica team! Thanks a lot!

Another great podcast! Thank you! I think it's important to inform consumers of this kind of information because it enables them to feel more empowered. I used to believe in "chemical-free" but am very glad that I now understand more about the science of cosmetic chemistry and that chemicals in general are not something to be afraid of.

It has been a great lesson, I have to admit I am one of those saying I do not want food or cosmetics with lots of chemicals in it. From now on I will say "toxic" chemicals. Thanks a lot

really great stuff - as the owner of an indie brand and when dealing with suppliers its always really helpful to be able to discuss options with the formulators

Now I can focus on what's in my products as opposed to what's not! I think it promotes negative thinking on my part. No thees \and thou shall nots. It is a confidence booster for me.

I am so glad Formula Botanica created a Green Beauty Conversations podcast, I listen to all three episodes and I love the idea of always keep in mind the four shades of natural when it comes to choose the right cosmetics, my future goal is to create my own natural face beauty products chemical free, and I will always going to make sure to maintain the natural chemical structure of the ingredient intact , and look for ingredients that derived from nature using minimal or cero processing, also choose nature identical elements extracted without any chemical modification, and last, absolutely make sure not to buy synthetic additives. Thank you so much for the amazing information I got from this podcast.

Thanks a lot for this second podcost, it has been very instructive :) I think using the claimer 'chemical-free' to sell your products, like you have also shared, is an easy way for consumers to understand that our products are natural and will not be harmful

Hello, I want to clearify hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) isn’t H2O. It is an oxidation form of water(oxidant). I am an environmental engineering, we use H2O2 to oxidized Minerals such as pyrite(FeS2). I am suggest you to do researches on this again.

What does “organic” skincare formulator mean? Looking at the organic word in specific. Is it that formula botanica trained formulators suppose to only use certified organic ingredients eg USDA accredited.

We prefer to use organic ingredients in our formulations Kamini. Do you make your own products also? :)
