Hard agree. It's a masterwork in the importance of timing and silence and breath control. Stunning. And fun fact, it was the performance that introduced me to young Ms. Eilish.
Hi, Jeff. This is one of the ones they did while in quarantine, all in their own homes which just astounds me. They sound every bit as tight as if they were standing side by side in a regular studio. Of course, the video work is extraordinary as always and Matt and KO just slayed it. I love the energy, the harmonies, the tones...heck, it's PTX, of course I love it!
Their cover of the Cranberries "Dreams" (also from the Home album) is phenominal. Every song they did on that quarantine album is fantastic. You should just go, song to song and catch them all. You won't regret it.
Kirsten is an integral part of the group - they all are. Together they are bigger than the individual talent they all possess. I'm very glad she, and also Mitch are coming forward in the newer songs, they are all developing and pushing what they do, with amazing results. I cannot honestly say there is a 'weak link' in this group.
From the brilliant At Home EP, released last year at the height of the pandemic. They recorded every song on that album separately from their individual home studios, not able to hear any part of what the others were doing, and yet every harmony and note on the entire EP is perfectly on point. As such, I feel this EP is some of their very best work. Kirstie has been my favorite member of the group from the beginning. Anyone who thinks Kirstie is the "weak link" of this group, especially over the last couple of years, is totally clueless about music and shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion on the subject, much less the right to comment on it.
Kirsti is absolutely an integral part of PTX there are only five voices making that sound. 5 take out any one and you'd be able to tell. Love these guys so much! People seem to judge the trio based on solos, which is poppycock, they are an Ensemble!
The At Home EP is where I first heard the hike-up in their production that has led to the phenomenon that is The Lucky Ones, even more so in the deluxe tracks. I commented at the time that it was like Superfruit production brought to Pentatonix and now it's gone beyond that. There were hints of it from the time that Matt joined the group and I don't believe in coincidence. Yes I'll always have a soft spot for Avi and though happy to see him free to produce his own unique solo stuff, at first I thought I'd never feel the same about PTX without him. But Matt has brought his own considerable energy to the group and the dynamics have shifted but not diminished. Along with their various solo projects, PTX (and I still include Avi in this) offer us a breadth of musical diversity that is unheard of in any other group I can think of with the possible exception of The Beatles in their time (I was around for that). And not a weak link in the bunch.
I totally agree with your call with Kirsten. They are all stand alone artists but as a group, they compliment each other with such a phenomenal uniqueness that is astoundingly mind-bending!
Amazing that each one did their own part in their own home with their own recording equipment during quarantine and their recording engineers put this masterpiece together.
Great reaction. Many will disagree with me on this, but I have been listening to PTX since the very beginning, and here is my take on the members. And remember, this is only my opinion. Scott has the widest range when in comes to singing. Mitch has the prettiest voice. KIRSTEN has the purest singing voice. Matt has definitely improved to be a really good bass, with a very smooth singing voice. And Kevin. Well, he is just a BEAST! Together is what makes them the powerhouse they are. I am happy to see that you point out each of their strengths when you react to them. Keep up the good work.
Amazing - I love this one! Thanks for the great reaction. Someone actually stated that Kirstin is the weak singer in the group?! First, there is no weak singer in this group, and Kirstin has an amazing voice. Granted, she is truly coming into her own lately (really over the past couple of years) but she has never been a weak singer. I agree with you - she is the glue!
I HAPPEN TO LOVE KIRSTIES VOICE. ACTUALLY, I LOVE ALL THEIR VOICES. AND THE BEATBOXING IS AMAZING. THIS GROUP IS SO, SO TALENTED IT BOGGLES THE MIND, AND EARS, AND EYES. I AGREE WITH YOU. THANKS, BILL
I love your appreciation of Matt and Kevin. Kirstin is excellent. When she is highlighted she does a great job! So, are you planning to go down the PTX Christmas catalog? Maybe one or two a week from Thanksgiving to Christmas? They have some pretty awesome songs/ upgrades! Thanks
Great reaction! I agree with you about Kirstin. Without her, the harmonies would fall on their collective faces.....but I guess you could say that about both Scott and Mitch, too. I like how she is receiving a stronger presence in their songs and also giving us many songs where she is lead. I had heard this PTX cover before the last Super Bowl where the Weeknd performed. I have to be honest and say I would have rather listened to their "upgrade". Thank you, as always, for your detailed reaction and your goose bump moments. See you at your next PTX reaction.
Kirstie is my favourite member of the group, as you said she's literally the glue that ties them all together. If you want to see her be featured more I'd recommend Be My Eyes (it's an original and she wrote it), My Favourite Things (although you may want to save this one for Christmas) and Say Something.
I love the entire quarantaine EP @Home, but this is one of my favorites. They gave multiple interviews on the making of the album and videos. They had to learn to make a complete set-up at home to record. They really shine, and it gives you a glimpse in their homes. They are all so perfect together and. Love your reactions! Btw, home, When the party's over and Dreams are also amazing tot react to from this EP 😁
Kirstin a weak part of the group? I've never heard a more ignorant statement. Kirstin has a beautiful voice and she hits those high notes and low ones perfectly. Pentatonix wouldn't be who they are without her
I’ve been a fan of yours for a while (when I was obsessed with Billie Eilish reactions). I always loved your analysis and comments, not to mention all your goosebumps. I’ve been a PTX fan for much longer and I was *so excited* when you started reacting to them. I’ve seen all their videos and a ton of reactions to their music and it’s great fun knowing exactly when your face will light up and R L Stein book covers would flash on the screen. My recommendation for which of their videos to react to next: all of them :) I mean, start with the ones that are most recommended but absolutely never stop. They have an enormous catalogue and I hope it takes you a long time to get through it :) Also, keep going with Superfruit. They did great covers and even better original music. A lot of their non-music videos were fun, too. Their close friendship was lovely to watch. I miss seeing it.
If you haven’t already reacted to it, their cover of Billie Eilish’s When The Party’s Over is stunning. And on the opposite end (mood-wise) from that, their recent mashup of BTS’s Butter & Dynamite is just feel-good perfection.
I still find it amazing they did this separately while in quarantine. They are so good! Really enjoying your reactions, thank you for sharing your time with us 😊
This is the one they did and I knew Matt... is... AMAZING, he sounds like a bass!!!!!! His runs literally sound like a Bass guitar!!! So fun !! they killed this!!!!
Kirstin a weak link? Granted that early in their career, she was content to harmonize and let the others take the lead. She has definitely come out of her shell over the past few years and plays a much more dominant role. Listen to her in Rather Be, Say Something, Shallow, Water, My Favorite Things, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don’t, and Seasons Of Love. Then try to say she is a weak link. I do agree that she is the glue that makes Pentatonix Pentatonix. But, of course, you could say that about all the members. Recommend their Rather Be, Say Something, Shallow, Radioactive, Havana, and I Just Called To Say I Love You.
This is a quarantine collab which is crazy!! My favorite part is about half way when they sing almost in choral with the “hit the road in overdrive” before breaking out into their individual parts. They’re so friggin’ good. Thanks for the reaction! 👏🏼🙏🏼
Anyone saying Kirstie is a weak singer hasn't actually fully listened to any Pentatonix song. EVER! The amount of vocal acrobatics she does in every song is amazing, then if you see her in Wizard of Aahs, Seasons of Love, Water, anything live-none of them are weak links! Seriously, who is saying that? Sorry, tangent meet rhetorical question. Ignore me. Great reacting!
Thanks for this awesome reaction, this is one of my favs too! The three-voiced "uuhs" give me chills every time and Matt and Kevin are outstanding. The whole "Home" EP is brilliant, please try "When the party's over", if you haven't done yet.
Yeah, I had to buy this one for my iPod etc.! It is so dynamic and crisp, all at the same time! Great reaction - really enjoyed watching you. ETA: No, Kirstin is not weak! No no no. Like Scott she is willing to take on the technically onerous, background harmony parts. I just checked your PTX reactions - you have done a lot of Kirstin leads! Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Seasons of Love, etc.
Gorgeous, Im loving that there are more and more Acapella groups. I can't pick a favorite... although I'm a sucker for a bass. Geoff, Tim, Avi... The RANGE kills me.
I love this cover, and like others have said it's incredible they recorded this completely in isolation and it still sounds on point! If you love this song I highly recommend the X-Ambassadors cover. It's a whole different vibe (more somber), but it's so beautiful in its own right.
If you want to hear Kristin outside of Pentatonix, with imho the best classic a cappella group around today, you should check out "Voctave - Disney Love Medley (feat. Kirstin Maldonado & Jeremy Michael)" btw PTX beeing the best "modern" a cappella group 😃
Thanks for reacting to this incredible Pentatonix video. All of the videos made of songs from their At Home EP are amazing. Please react to their versions of "Break My Heart", "Dreams" and "When The Party's Over" from the EP.
Try The Wizard of Ahhhs, by Todrick Hall and featuring Pentatonix. (Note: If you've never watched The Wizard of Oz, with Judy Garland, do please watch it first. Without that, some of The Wizard of Ahhhs won't make sense to you.) Basically it's a musical retelling of the movie, in just over 6 minutes. Kirstie really came into her own with this one.
Other ones from the At Home EP that they did in quarantine are good. Or anything from the Deluxe version of their recent Lucky Ones album, but my favourites are Side, Never Going to Cry Again, Anchor, or Petals. Most on that album only have visualisers as it was released just as everything closed down. Hopefully they will do videos once they've got the Christmas Tour for Evergreen out of the way.
th-cam.com/video/E5zDVXshx2Y/w-d-xo.html this is a link to Teddy swims cover of blinding lights. It also is very very good. Just AS with Sound of Silence its Standalone because both of them are very good. This was done while they were in quarantine. Each one have their part filmed then it was edited together
Thanks for the reaction. I do really love PTX upgrades! I'm not sure I agree Kirstin is the glue because Mitch and Scott sound great harmonising without her as that's all the Superfruit songs, you should react to Deny U and The Promise as they are good demonstrations of this. Every member of PTX is very important but I would not say any person is more the glue than any other. You need each person's role to make PTX what it is, as much as I would like to say they are irreplaceable that's not the case as proved when Avi left, they just have a different sound now because Matt has a different voice tone, they aren't worse or better for the change in my opinion.
Hey Jeff, I'd really like you to react to Doom Eternal's ost. It's just epic. You'll definitely love it. Also, nice beard. :) Edit: some sound track names: kar en tuk, the only thing they fear is you, meat hook, the super gore nest and BFG division.
so happy you're still reacting to PTX! you mentioned drummers and I immediately thought of Neil Peart. I'm sure you've seen him before, but, if you haven't seen his amazing drum solo that he did in Frankfurt, it's a must see :) th-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/w-d-xo.html
Ok, personal opinion. But... I'm not discrediting Kirstin's contribution because she is a phenomenal singer, and yes, she's often not given enough credit, But... for me the one who does the gluing together is Scott. Setting aside what an incredible lead vocalist he can be, you only hear him when you're supposed to, which seems like a daft thing to say about a singer, but what I mean is that he can slip in and out of pretty much any of their places...he bounces around where he's needed when the other's take their lead, whether filling in the upper harmony for Mitch or bass for Avi/Matt. I think the problem is, the trio have sung together for so long, if they want they can harmonise so perfectly you'd not be able to tell where one ends and one finishes, and they can seamlessly pass a harmony line back and forth between them. Of course, they all have their strengths and they all have frankly ridiculous ranges, but I personally feel Scott's is the broadest and most versatile. Add to that he can belt it with the best of them or he can blend in so well people either don't realise he's there filling the gaps or they don't believe it's him (as happened with him singing bass line when Avi took lead in Hallelujah etc). If you want your mind blown check out the song on his channel called (i believe it's) I Should Tell Yo Momma On Ya.
When you talk about incredible guitar players that never make it big your not talking about Tina S. and Alip Ba Ta are you? Tina S. stopped posting videos because of all the trolls hitting on her because she was a minor, and Alip Ba Ta says he is content being a forklift driver who posts videos playing guitar as a hobby. Hey Barton. I haven’t heard of these people but that’s awful what happened to Tina S. I have many persons friends that are phenomenal guitar players but just never hit it. Even my old boss at the local guitar shop I worked at in college was a phenomenal player. He lived in LA for 20 years and never hit it. Such a skilled player though 🤘🏼
Their cover of When The Party’s Over from the At Home EP will give you chills the entire time, it’s gorgeous.
Hard agree. It's a masterwork in the importance of timing and silence and breath control. Stunning. And fun fact, it was the performance that introduced me to young Ms. Eilish.

Of course, the video work is extraordinary as always and Matt and KO just slayed it. I love the energy, the harmonies, the tones...heck, it's PTX, of course I love it!
They mostly never register a song together. They register each part alone most of the time
Their cover of the Cranberries "Dreams" (also from the Home album) is phenominal. Every song they did on that quarantine album is fantastic. You should just go, song to song and catch them all. You won't regret it.
Yes Yes Yes, seconded in a big way - do it Jeff, do it :)
Especially When The Party's Over. For my money that's my favorite track on their quarantine album, and I'm not even a huge Billy Eilish fan.
Kirsten is an integral part of the group - they all are. Together they are bigger than the individual talent they all possess. I'm very glad she, and also Mitch are coming forward in the newer songs, they are all developing and pushing what they do, with amazing results. Nice reaction. Another winner for Kevin & Matt - is New Rules X Are You That Somebody?

I sincerely want to see you react to their original, "Sing".
I think you'll love it.
Thanks
Oh, so glad you checked this one out. I feel this one doesn't get enough love, it is one of my favorite covers from PTX.
Great reaction! I agree with you about Kirstin. Without her, the harmonies would fall on their collective faces.....but I guess you could say that about both Scott and Mitch, too. Totally agree about Kirstie! She is the difference here!! Love them all!! 🥰
I think you would like reacting to When the party is over (cover), Sing(original), Run to you(original, 5 part harmony), Silent Night ( no mics)
Kirstie is my favourite member of the group, as you said she's literally the glue that ties them all together. If you want to see her be featured more I'd recommend Be My Eyes (it's an original and she wrote it), My Favourite Things (although you may want to save this one for Christmas) and Say Something.
IDK, maybe it’s just me, but Mitch’s enunciation just blows me away…time after time.
It's not just you, for sure not! His clear pronunciation impresses me each time 😀
I love the entire quarantaine EP @Home, but this is one of my favorites. They gave multiple interviews on the making of the album and videos. I think you’d really enjoy their cover of Dreams by the Cranberries. 👍🏼
My favorite from this EP 😍
Love that one 😊

When I hear the original now, I expect to hear Kirsten come in with "sin city's cold and empty" 😂
AMAZING!!! this was last year during quarantine each member in their own home!✌😀
If you haven’t already reacted to it, their cover of Billie Eilish’s When The Party’s Over is stunning. And on the opposite end (mood-wise) from that, their recent mashup of BTS’s Butter & Dynamite is just feel-good perfection.

Just found this, your smile when it hits the beat, priceless! Good on ya!
One of my favorites too.
This is once again, a cover they blow away! I appreciate your input, and gotta say too, your beard is fantastic!

Those people need to put some respect on Kirstin’s name
I’m loving all the PTX reactions lately. Keep them coming please! 🙏🏻
Thanks for this awesome reaction, this is one of my favs too! The three-voiced "uuhs" give me chills every time and Matt and Kevin are outstanding. The whole "Home" EP is brilliant, please try "When the party's over", if you haven't done yet.
Gotta fit Making Christmas in before Halloween! Also Can't Hold Us. thanks for another great reaction! 😁😁😁😎
I wasn't prepared, either! What a deadly cover. Great complement to The Weekend. 👍👍🤙🤙
Yeah, I had to buy this one for my iPod etc.! It is so dynamic and crisp, all at the same time! Great reaction - really enjoyed watching you. ETA: No, Kirstin is not weak! No no no. Absolutely nobody is weak in PTX, do more please 👍🏻👍🏻🕺🏻🕺🏼😎 🇬🇧
Great reaction, thank you 😉
Love this Jeff, thank you - hope all is well with you and yours :)
The look on your face says it all. We all generally feel that the next video is their best or our new favorite.
Thanks for reacting to this incredible Pentatonix video. All of the videos made of songs from their At Home EP are amazing. Please react to their versions of "Break My Heart", "Dreams" and "When The Party's Over" from the EP.
I missed being here for live chat but in similar genre to this performance I recommend you listen to ptx with Jason Derulo - If I ever fall in love :D
Honestly I got Night at the Roxbury moves while listening.... hurt my neck ahaha
Misbehaving by pentatonix live is really good. You should check it out
Try The Wizard of Ahhhs, by Todrick Hall and featuring Pentatonix.
Jared Halley did an used this song in his Acapella videos by the way
Heehee just found you Recently... love these reviews x

Very good.
Teddie Swims does a very good cover of this song too.
Bohemian Rhapsody
I would have a weak link in my brain, if I said Kirstin was the weak link in the group.
Edit: some sound track names: kar en tuk, the only thing they fear is you, meat hook, the super gore nest and BFG division.
so happy you're still reacting to PTX! you mentioned drummers and I immediately thought of Neil Peart. I'm sure you've seen him before, but, if you haven't seen his amazing drum solo that he did in Frankfurt, it's a must see :) th-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/w-d-xo.html

The cover of Billie Eilish when the party’s over!
😀😃😁
I heard this version first and then went and found the original. I love both the, but PTX barely edges The Weeknd out for favorites.
I know both have many bands that would take them in a heartbeat.
