Great update and outstanding mental attitude to a very frustrating situation. Our build (RV7 quick build) was completed in 2017. While I am thankful I am not in the middle of a build during Vans restructuring, I love my plane and hope I would have your attitude had I been faced with the same challenge. I know you will be happy with your airplane once things get ironed out. When the FAA inspector hands you your airworthiness certificate all the heartaches will melt away. They are a fantastic line of airplanes..
Thank you! I was at OSH when the 10 first came out. I had the 7 emp kit order forms up more often than I care to admit. While I am finally in a place in my life to do this, I have regrets I didn’t start earlier. Maybe in 5 years I’ll be able to say “thank goodness I started when I did!”
Great video Ryan! I ordered the Emp/Tail kit, which was delivered before the announcements started in November. I have been watching and listening to the company and hearing all of the feedback on the various forums/facebook. You have a very balanced perspective, which I also happen to agree with. I learned a few things from your video that are very helpful to me so thanks for publishing this video.
Great update! I submitted my new/revised orders this morning and I agree - the additional cost isn't much in view of the total project cost. It will be really interesting to see what happens with engine deposits now.
I am thankful I had not gotten far enough for an engine deposit yet. Van's is going to need to get a lot healthier before I consider putting in a deposit for a 3rd part product.
Great video! Going to Texas next week to pick up a emp kit super excited to get started. I’ve been wanting to build one for years. Hopefully vans has a long future ahead of them.
I hope all kit manufactures watch this carefully. We need them to be economically viable . Nobody wants to pay more but we need there long term support.
Ha, Thanks! I don't get labeled that very often so I'll take it. :) I think I take the Olympic judging mentality. Toss out the influence of the top/bottom and average out the information in the middle.
For sure. I know what I want as my destination. My path seems to have changed but I’m still committed. I guess I’ll just follow the detour signs for a while and see what happens.
I am so happy to have bought a flying machine. I would be furious if I had to deal with these issues. Especially since for an European, this legal situation would be unbearable and seems incredibly unfair.
I hope you enjoy whatever bird you are flying right now. We all have to make choices based on the information and constraints we have. Thanks for watching!
found you by shear accident - no clue who you are but I wanted to share my takeaway from this video. Perhaps its that your filthy rich (good on you) or at least wealthy enough to play this game....but the There is a large portion of entitlement in their responses. rich and just wealthy don't come across like you do. I wanted to jump up and down for you...I wanted in your stead to show up at someone's front door if they took my money and squandered it on things other than my plane. Your delivery was nothing short of an inspiration to those of us reactive types who live in a world increasingly trying to take advantage of us. In a babbling analogy that I hope you forgive. I'd like to make a parallel. I think you demonstrate a concept of "winning" that was explained in a Veritisium video. They talked of a process of how to win, in a nuclear war...how to survive and prosper based on brilliant gaming research. Very reminiscent of the 80's War Games movie. they also used game theory to determine the best way to win, survive and thrive. Their movie conclusion was the best strategy was "not to play the game" when in reality that would be a loosing strategy almost every time. I believe you employ the winning strategy which included totally off topic pieces. 1. Be Nice 2. Be forgiving 3. Be retaliatory - if your opponent "defects" from cooperation strike back immediately and appropriately (don't be a pushover) . 4. Be clear and understandable. I feel like your approach to this problem met these winning strategies - you getting clear on your plan, and the retaliatory in only when someone actually do harm - in this case that would be last. I'd bet your former military. Very nice delivery of a jacked up situation - "all is well remain calm"....(a beer for the movie reference) I'm sure it'll work out for you. thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to write back. I can assure you, I am not rich. This project is a financial stretch for sure. It comes with the opportunity cost of giving up a bunch of other things. I base my decisions on the information available at the time. When the situation changes, I re-evaluate to see if my decision still holds or I need to pivot. Van's change was seismic for sure. We considered dropping the project but in the end decided we could still accept the current conditions. I hope we are done with the bad news for a while. As for the military, it is one of my few regrets in life that I didn't serve. I'm a regular Gen-X guy who had the good fortune of being raised by fantastic parents and flock of uncles. They were a mix of Boomers and greatest generation (mostly military) who were also fans of Animal House.... Anything positive you saw is likely their influence.

@@NotAModel I am just starting an RV10 so I will be catching up on your videos to learn more.

How did the pickup go, and what did you get????

So you have reserved quick build kits and they wont let you change to a regular kit? Good kuck. Chin up.
Interesting! Very balanced.

Amazing what mismanagement can destroy.
Bidenomics scores another victory.
@@snotnosewilly99please explain that one.
