Dude... I use guitar notes alot too, just to note random ideas or tips to build on. I should have known that when I needed to understand moving the capo to different frets using a particular shape what key does it change to and how do I know..... My main man Garrett was going to come through! I look through all these videos of explanations and there you are brother. Awesome job, keep the videos coming and we will continue the support*
@@GarrettNoganAcoustic I have been working hard at it. Unfortunately, I don't get to practice as much as I probably should. However, it has been fun to pick this up. In fact, I have even had the chance a few times to play at church. By the way- I REALLY like the G shapes. :)
@@GarrettNoganAcoustic I really like the way you described how to use two different guitars to get different sounds with the Capos. That was pretty cool.
@@Dmorgan1363 Yes! Man, it is so fun when you start learning stuff like that. Opens up a whole other layer to guitar! Thanks for the shout-out on Facebook too!!
Wonderful video. One of my favorite channels. However, sure would be helpful to have the basic information on the screen so we could screenshot and save to folders. I understand it’s an editing issue. But could also put the capo equivalents in the more information drop down box. Thanks for the videos.
Hey David! Glad the lessons are helping you man!! Here is Key of D: th-cam.com/video/upSb9ovbXTc/w-d-xo.html And here is Key of C: th-cam.com/video/gNaqjHReMss/w-d-xo.html Enjoy man!
Can you show us how to play on the guitar in G flat the Song " Alabastor Box" ? With the capo or without? It seems to be stumping me with all the minors about half way through. If you can, thank you so much!
My problem is my voice sounds best and I have the easist time singing when the capo is far down the neck. The problem is the guitar like you said starts to sound like a ukelele or something. I usually sing best in G#maj. At least when I try to sing covers, I always find that the higher the capo goes up the neck, the easier/natural the song gets to sing. Is there a way to think about it so I also get the fullness of the guitar ?
So like you mentioned towards the end, you wouldn't want to play with the capo on 9th fret just to be able to use the g shapes and play in the key of E. So you would have to use a different shape to achieve that key of E? Like the shapes of D and use the capo on the 2nd fret? Right? Or? Hahah learning still so kind of confusing. Thanks, your lessons have been a huge blessing for me.
Hi friend!!! Yes, great question! :) Check out this capo lesson with chords in the Key of D to get to those other Keys such as E and F: th-cam.com/video/upSb9ovbXTc/w-d-xo.html Glad you are doing great on guitar so far! Keep it up! Where are you from??!
Awesome!! Thats what I thought. And yeah I watched that video already hahah, I just found your channel like idk about a month ago. Before that all I could play was power chords, play just at home not at church so it wasn't a big deal but its pretty lame to just play that so I'm so blessed to have found your channel. I can now play the G shapes and the C shapes and use the capo to play different keys. Next gonna learn the D shape to expand more. But I can say that I'm playing SOOOOO much better now!! And I'm from Southern California. A little place called Imperial CA. I serve at a local church as drummer. 😊
So how it works, just for lesson sake, when moving the G chord down and moving the capo down, wherever your root note lands(in a G chord your middle finger) that’s what chord that G shape becomes. For example, capo on the 5th fret, a G chord, your middle finger is on the 7th fret of the low E string which is a C. Hope that helps because this lesson helped me. Thanks
Man this really helped! Thankyou for this! And I for sure am going to show up this Wednesday playing in capo 9! Thanks for the advice! Just kidding. But I had a question. This past Sunday I was playing in capo 5 and my guitar sounded like a ukulele! You know I just put new strings on... but I'm thinking I might need a new capo. Could that be it?
hahahah 😂😂 Dude freakin' hilarious! Capo 9!!!!! haha Yeah as far as the ukulele/mandolin sound, that's just going to be normal the higher you climb up the fret board with the capo (some songs you want that sound and others not so much especially if it's just one acoustic). I start noticing the ukulele-ish sound when I jump up to capo 5 and higher as well. It is especially prominent when you strum the high E string and B string on your chords and when you play the D chord. On some of those songs when I don't want the super bright and borderline obnoxious high sound (lol) I just focus on strumming the top strings so it sounds more normal and has a little more bass. I think the only time you would need a new capo is if it's not holding all of the strings down and you hear that muted sound on the string when you pluck it. But I guess moral of the story....when in doubt...go capo 11!
@@GarrettNoganAcoustic 🤣🤣🤣I can't believe I didn't think about going to capo 11!! Wow such great wisdom🤓. But thankyou for the advice brother. That's what I normally do when in capo 5-7 but for some reason it just sounded a lot higher that day. I think it could have been the settings on my guitar. We'll figure it out though 😄

ok so silly question- if I know the basic chords/ shapes C,F,D,G,A em, d7, Am etc - do these shapes apply for different chords when moving the capo?

But it is more difficult to play all down there on the fretboard
Its better to learn the cords for that key
If you learn to play in G, D, and C you can play every Key while only needing to move up 3 or 4 frets on a capo
