studio sets, pad mode/part select, and using the Boss FS-6 to switch between them have absolutely revolutionized the way i play live and removed the stress - now i can fully focus on deep programming, and my playing and singing. thank you Roland - don't ever change this in upcoming keyboards!
How do you change parts within a studio set with the Boss pedal? What message are you using for the pedal? I've tried but could only find Favorite UP, Program up that change the whole set and not a part within a set.
@@oawapara Yes, you are correct, and so sorry for the late reply! As I've used it, I can only perform a FAVORITE UP or FAVORITE DOWN with the foot pedal going into one of the control pedal jacks. You set this in the system menu under pedals. But, as you'd added, as far as I know, there is no way to use the foot pedal to move up or down "patches" within a studio set; you can only move up or down studio sets with the foot pedal. This method is great for organizing favorites and building set lists. The best way I found to change patches within a studio set while playing was to use pad mode and manually do it. Most of my programming tricks revolve around clever splits across the keybed, though practicing a couple tricky switches with pad mode has paid off, and the sound remains as you switch them within a studio set. Though, if you change studio sets while anything is sounding, sound will cut off from the previous studio set.
My favorate thing to do is create studio sets. Every song that I can think of that if I ever wanted to play for someone, I go in and create the set (with effects, drums bass etc.)Then I remember just by scrolling through the user studio sets what songs I know how to play. I currently have 92 sets but I'm sure I'll fill it up one day to rhe 500+

@britesynth: I did some toying around with my new FA-06, and can confirm that assigning layered sounds to be quickly triggered by the pads can easily be done by directing two or more parts (out of the 16 available) to a single midi channel. Furthermore, I can build a different set of layered sounds to be simultaneously called and controlled by my stage piano (or any other midi controller). For split patches it doesn't seem to be that easy.
split can be possibly made at minute 6.16, in the keyboard section of the menù ... i think R.L. and R.U. are lower and upper range of the keybed .. may i be correct ?
How do I adjust the volume of only one instrument with the Level knob? (where "Sound Modify") For example, I have on one layer - Piano, on the other - Strings. Both layers are on the same midi channel. Right? If I turn the Level knob, the sound changes on both layers, but I only need to change the "Strings"

6:14 I expect that ch is MIDI channel assigned to the instrument. While external keyboard shall have configuration of MIDI channel(s) it generates for its keyboard messages. So external keyboard can play the configured part instrument while internal keyboard can switch instruments with its own control to the right of the display.
Hi, when I save a song and then go back and load up to song later all the sounds/tones have defaulted back to the original? Any ideas what Im doing wrong? tks!
Yes, Are you 1st saving the song as: "Write" the song & naming it. Then, "Save" song also ? You have to Write then Save (do both in that order) to keep the assigned instruments.
I also think this would really make this synth a bad ass, having to set multiple patches to different ranges and/or layering them together - then calling them both with just a press of a pad =)
Wow this keyboard beat the krome in many ways. Im a korg and a motif guy. But for the price this is better than the krome or moxf. i bought this FA-08. Because i sold my fantom G7 last year.

Sorry my english bad. I can have 3 or more layers in any parts by doing ON selective parts. For example i have 16 parts but the rest is OFF KBD meaning you have one sound only in each part. By turning another parts using KBD you will able to have layers in one part but it's up to your strategy.
That's what "studio"(formerly "performance" in Roland terms for years) mode is for, either 16 parts(instruments) for sequencing(recording) or 16 parts for layering and/or splitting 😊
How do I create banks where I edit my own sounds, layering and stuff and then when I decide to switch to other effect, the transition fades from the effect where I am from to another. My experience with Roland is that when I switch effects, it automatically shuts the sound where I am in to switch to other effects. Kinda awkward if you're playing pads then switch to a GrandP. Immediately all pad sounds disappear.

we just did the same thing, its easy - just sample your lightning and or thunder sounds, save in Sampler, its right there at your finger tips when every you want to use it, separate of any keyboard sounds you are playing! the sampler is awesome

Example: if I have some split sections under user 001 with multiple sounds and under 002 I have Piano. Can I access them using pads (not up/down buttons or wheel)
Can assign samples to keys in the same way? For example on the fantoms performance mode after the audio track expansion you could assign samples as patches to the keys. This gave you great user functions to change the speed key and layer on effects. Is something like this possible on the FA-06.

HELP! I was programming my live sounds like in your tutorial and was starting with "User init 2". Everything was going fine with the programming of sounds until I got to 16. I was able to select the sound I wanted but it appears there are some sample sounds playing other than the sound I selected. Also, all of the other sounds (1-15) are in red but it appears 16 is greyed out.
There is a bug in FA series and not resolved. In STUDIO SET mode, I have 16 track (Part). An Expression pedal is used to adjust the volume of the selected part and working good. When I was playing in Part 1, I dim the volume with the EXP. Pedal and without releasing the key notes, I change the Part from Part 1 to Part 2, and suddenly the volume of Part 1 turned to its original value. This is a big problem in live and no solution found in any forum. All user having problem is looking for a firmware update. Thanks Roland

yes, if your sounds are part of the same studio set then you'll be good. for instance, i have many patches per studio set, and if i hold the damper and change sounds there's no pause in the sound - one sound moves right into the next without overlap or silence (i use the sample pads in pad mode to select sounds/sets of sounds in my studio sets during the same songs, and to switch studio sets, i have a Boss dual foot pedal). i suggest programming all sounds for a single song in a studio set. it helps to keeps you organized and takes the stress out of playing songs that contain may patches, since it's all right there. as far as i know, however, you cannot change studio sets without the the sound pausing, but with 16 patch spots per studio set where the sound will not cut out when changing sounds, i've never even come close to filling them since i make one studio set per every song that i perform. i think the most i've ever used was about 10 and it was for a huge medley. it all fit in a single studio set.

@@penponds Hi! I'm not sure how it works under the hood, but my guess is that the tech design allows for 16 tones to be combined in any number of ways, with consistent polyphony. On the other hand, if you simply want to switch with the foot pedal between just a couple patches, assign one per studio set and jump back and forth, or, if it's a more complicated arrangement, you can always have multiple instances of studio sets (one patch per) in your favorites list, using the pedal to move FAVORITE UP or FAVORITE DOWN in whichever order you build the list. The studio set doesn't have to be used for 16-part multitimbral complexity, it can just house whichever sounds you need and nothing more. The only caveat is keeping in mind that when switching from one studio set to another, the sound will pause / cut off, that's something to consider when programming sounds and building your studio sets. A background synth tone in a big full-band mix under loud distorted guitars moving to another sound might be okay, while a slower more intimate ballad with a piano moving to a hammond organ may not be as acceptable...
+Tai Nguyen (Mr. Tai) I think the computer screen is showing an overhead camera focused just on the FA screen. Looks like that footage has then been output to his PC monitor. The top half of the screen looks much darker so he might have blended the 2 movies together afterwards. Just my own take on it!
Instruction says each instrument has its own effects MFX settings that can be redefined in studio set, and there is TFX effect for all 16 instruments played.
I'm curious about this: is it possible to load sounds from the Juno DS61 into the FA06, in the same manner as downloading sounds from the Axial site? The Blow Tenor sax sound from the Juno is the best sounding sax I've ever heard on a keyboard. The sax sounds on the FA can't compare. Some of the Organ sounds are better as well.
A lot of people including myself who own a Roland Synth (any model) have had a common problem of their units lcd screen going blank (lit up but no graphics displayed) or just totally out. I've had an XP50 and currently own a Juno G, both of them had their lcd screens go blank. My Juno G still blank today. Most users say it's a very common Roland issue. And it's not an easy thing to fix due to replacement problems. I like Roland but this problem is just demoralizing.
Looks like they are just zooming in on the internal screen for this video, not using external display. you can see the dial control faintly to the right on the top (zoomed) view.
Why Roland has not made a Pc/Mac Editor for this keyboard? I very interested in buy it, but i'm worried for the edition inside the keyboard because the buttons and wheel...i totally prefer edition in big screen and with the speed of mouse...you must give this chance to your costumers...
How are the keys on the fa08? I tried the little version of this, the juno ds88, and those were probably the worst feeling keys I've ever used. Sloppy movement, inaccurate velocity, the rebound of the keys is incredibly slow, rendering any faster paced pieces practically impossible.
In my opinion the keys and piano sounds are underwhelming at best. But I’m also used to playing 88 keys where the feel, velocity and sensitivity is always better.
I don't understand why would Roland make FA series impossible to assign an imported wav sample to the key directly like XPS. This is a big flaw if you ask me.
What is the advantage of using "studio sets" over just "favorites"??? I don't really understand the difference. The manual doesn't explain it - at least not as far along as I am in it.
Is it possible to make several parts with the same midichannel and with different keyboardranges and use the part select on the pads to change the parts. This would be cool. I discovered that when giving the same midichannel the different parts, the keyboardranges wont work. Same midichannel = the sounds play over the whole keyboardrange
It is possible to use external keyboard that splits into several ranges with unique MIDI channel for each range, and then assign several parts to one of those channels.
I am the "not so proud anymore" owner of a new FA-06. It's about 3 days old and I already stumbled on a weird issue. I made a studio set of about 6 sounds and I use the pads for part mute, to switch fast between sounds and to rapidly combine the 6 sounds in any way I need. Today I had a rehearsal and I noticed that some of the sounds just cut out and the piano witch is the loudest in the set loses sustain and also again notes just disappear. It's like I exceeded the polyphony...but that can't be...right? I never use more than 3 sounds simultaneously...For f... sake you are allowed to combine 16...and this weird issue happens even when I am only playing one single sound. Did anyone else have this problem? Any advice is appreciated. I'm furious...absolutely furious...it's the sixth keyboard from Roland since I start playing music that went wrong. And the service and customer support in my country is...awful...i could say non-existent.
There is known issue of sounds cutoff when studio set is changed, which is not so important since should happen only between songs. But it shouldn't happen on part change inside studio set, since this feature is declared to exist.
Yeah the mute mode only mutes the audio for that part - so the polyphony is still being used (i.e. if you muted part 1 and played a pad with a long release you can unmute after you've hit the note and it will be playing in the background). So, you need to use Keyboard Switches as they only enable the parts that you select in each of the groups - it's much improved way of working and won't use any additional polyphony than what you're hearing. You can also set up one pad to be combinations, i.e. Pad 1 = Part 1, Pad 2 = Part 1+3, Pad 3 = Parts 4-8 etc. etc.
Hmm too bad you can`t access different studiosets with your drumpads. Having 16 split/dual sounds availeble under the drumnpads would be awesome. You just have to use the favorites buttons.
no touch screen, but it's very quick to get around. near instant. plus you don't have to worry about damaging screen or the lack of sensitivity/inconsistency of a touch screen.
How could i change one of the sounds > let's say PRST 001 Full grand 1 to be added by another layer with the strings sound. So it will become a unit of split or dual sound? Anyone?
How about taking all that empty space in the middle and adding a 6"x10" LCD so we can see all 16 parts at once instead of guessing what they are? uh?!? Nice tutorial because you used the camera lens augmenting the tiny screen, otherwise I wouldn't see crap... Does keyboard have seamless patch switching? Meaning the sound don't pause when change tones.
yes, if your sounds are part of the same studio set then you'll be good. for instance, i have many patches per studio set, and if i hold the damper and change sounds there's no pause in the sound - one sound moves right into the next without overlap or silence (i use the sample pads in pad mode to select sounds/sets of sounds in my studio sets during the same songs, and to switch studio sets, i have a Boss dual foot pedal).
i suggest programming all sounds for a single song in a studio set. it helps to keeps you organized and takes the stress out of playing songs that contain may patches, since it's all right there.
as far as i know, however, you cannot change studio sets without the the sound pausing, but with 16 patch spots per studio set where the sound will not cut out when changing sounds, i've never even come close to filling them since i make one studio set per every song that i perform. i think the most i've ever used was about 10 and it was for a huge medley. it all fit in a single studio set.

@@penponds Hi! I'm not sure how it works under the hood, but my guess is that the tech design allows for 16 tones to be combined in any number of ways, with consistent polyphony.
On the other hand, if you simply want to switch with the foot pedal between just a couple patches, assign one per studio set and jump back and forth, or, if it's a more complicated arrangement, you can always have multiple instances of studio sets (one patch per) in your favorites list, using the pedal to move FAVORITE UP or FAVORITE DOWN in whichever order you build the list. The studio set doesn't have to be used for 16-part multitimbral complexity, it can just house whichever sounds you need and nothing more.
The only caveat is keeping in mind that when switching from one studio set to another, the sound will pause / cut off, that's something to consider when programming sounds and building your studio sets. A background synth tone in a big full-band mix under loud distorted guitars moving to another sound might be okay, while a slower more intimate ballad with a piano moving to a hammond organ may not be as acceptable...

+Tai Nguyen (Mr. Tai) I think the computer screen is showing an overhead camera focused just on the FA screen. Looks like that footage has then been output to his PC monitor. The top half of the screen looks much darker so he might have blended the 2 movies together afterwards. Just my own take on it!
How many of the 16 sounds from the studio set can have their own effects?
Instruction says each instrument has its own effects MFX settings that can be redefined in studio set, and there is TFX effect for all 16 instruments played.
I'm curious about this: is it possible to load sounds from the Juno DS61 into the FA06, in the same manner as downloading sounds from the Axial site? The Blow Tenor sax sound from the Juno is the best sounding sax I've ever heard on a keyboard. The sax sounds on the FA can't compare. Some of the Organ sounds are better as well.

Does it have patch remain?
A lot of people including myself who own a Roland Synth (any model) have had a common problem of their units lcd screen going blank (lit up but no graphics displayed) or just totally out. I've had an XP50 and currently own a Juno G, both of them had their lcd screens go blank. My Juno G still blank today. Most users say it's a very common Roland issue. And it's not an easy thing to fix due to replacement problems. I like Roland but this problem is just demoralizing.
A Roland XPS 30 is really great and doesn't have this problem...

Looks like they are just zooming in on the internal screen for this video, not using external display. you can see the dial control faintly to the right on the top (zoomed) view.
Why Roland has not made a Pc/Mac Editor for this keyboard? I very interested in buy it, but i'm worried for the edition inside the keyboard because the buttons and wheel...i totally prefer edition in big screen and with the speed of mouse...you must give this chance to your costumers...

How are the keys on the fa08? I tried the little version of this, the juno ds88, and those were probably the worst feeling keys I've ever used. Sloppy movement, inaccurate velocity, the rebound of the keys is incredibly slow, rendering any faster paced pieces practically impossible.
In my opinion the keys and piano sounds are underwhelming at best. But I’m also used to playing 88 keys where the feel, velocity and sensitivity is always better.

I don't understand why would Roland make FA series impossible to assign an imported wav sample to the key directly like XPS. This is a big flaw if you ask me.

What is the advantage of using "studio sets" over just "favorites"??? I don't really understand the difference. The manual doesn't explain it - at least not as far along as I am in it.

Manual suggests to use differents sets for different songs played, if songs use different instruments/tones.
Is it possible to make several parts with the same midichannel and with different keyboardranges
and use the part select on the pads to change the parts. This would be cool.
I discovered that when giving the same midichannel the different parts, the keyboardranges wont work.
Same midichannel = the sounds play over the whole keyboardrange
It is possible to use external keyboard that splits into several ranges with unique MIDI channel for each range, and then assign several parts to one of those channels.
Hi I would like to load some click tracks to use in live performance can anyone help?
I am the "not so proud anymore" owner of a new FA-06. It's about 3 days old and I already stumbled on a weird issue. I made a studio set of about 6 sounds and I use the pads for part mute, to switch fast between sounds and to rapidly combine the 6 sounds in any way I need. Today I had a rehearsal and I noticed that some of the sounds just cut out and the piano witch is the loudest in the set loses sustain and also again notes just disappear. It's like I exceeded the polyphony...but that can't be...right? I never use more than 3 sounds simultaneously...For f... sake you are allowed to combine 16...and this weird issue happens even when I am only playing one single sound. Did anyone else have this problem? Any advice is appreciated. I'm furious...absolutely furious...it's the sixth keyboard from Roland since I start playing music that went wrong. And the service and customer support in my country is...awful...i could say non-existent.
There is known issue of sounds cutoff when studio set is changed, which is not so important since should happen only between songs. But it shouldn't happen on part change inside studio set, since this feature is declared to exist.
Yeah the mute mode only mutes the audio for that part - so the polyphony is still being used (i.e. if you muted part 1 and played a pad with a long release you can unmute after you've hit the note and it will be playing in the background).
So, you need to use Keyboard Switches as they only enable the parts that you select in each of the groups - it's much improved way of working and won't use any additional polyphony than what you're hearing. You can also set up one pad to be combinations, i.e. Pad 1 = Part 1, Pad 2 = Part 1+3, Pad 3 = Parts 4-8 etc. etc.
Hmm too bad you can`t access different studiosets with your drumpads. Having 16 split/dual sounds availeble under the drumnpads would be awesome. You just have to use the favorites buttons.

no touch screen, but it's very quick to get around. near instant. plus you don't have to worry about damaging screen or the lack of sensitivity/inconsistency of a touch screen.

How could i change one of the sounds > let's say PRST 001 Full grand 1 to be added by another layer with the strings sound. So it will become a unit of split or dual sound? Anyone?
There is multitimbral edit mode available via buttons Split+Dual, where up to 16 instruments can be combined to sound simultaneously.
Good instruments in these Roland videos, but virtually no interactive follow up that would certainly help with sales. Just an observation.
How about taking all that empty space in the middle and adding a 6"x10" LCD so we can see all 16 parts at once instead of guessing what they are? uh?!? Nice tutorial because you used the camera lens augmenting the tiny screen, otherwise I wouldn't see crap... I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining too much but, change and improvement won't happen unless someone with more than two Neurons in their brain points out your shortcomings Mr. Roland.
