I was surprised by your knowledge of the Mengku tea, one of my favorite tea regions.

Quite a nice introduction to the area. I came here expecting to learn more about the geography and factories but I thought the small details and observations about the different peoples and lifestyles were pretty interesting as well. Currently having a taste of your most recent Xiao Hu Sai production and it met my expectations, it was definitely a good price for its value. Would be great to find one of these on your French website someday!

Thanks for this video professor. I felt like I was in college. I even found myself almost nodding off. But I don't mean that in a bad way. I love your videos. You're a big reason I'm up to my eyeballs in Puerh Tea.

I was sourcing for teas from northern lincang - fengqing and baiyingshan, found danzhu there which I prefer over anything from mengku (dxs) and bangdong (xigui receives too much sun exposure). cleaner, more refreshing and purer taste, whereas the chaqi i get from elsewhere in lincang teas are more upfront and less comforting. FYI, this teng tiao varietal is also common in BYS, alongside the ergazi and hei tiao. The best, and sweetest, is the hei tiao (black picked) varietal. ergazi is in-between, while teng tiao is not very good, imo.

A pleasure to watch. Thank you! I will watch again when I get some of your tea. Please consider making a video showing us your new shop and the surrounding area in Pu'er. :)

Mengku ("DXS", Bingdao) has always been one of my favorite three tea areas in Yunnan - thanks a lot for the virtual trip, William. Once I'm at it, back in 2015 I bought a 2014 DXS cake (blueish wrapper) from you (bannacha) and the remainder has aged just beautifully in my storage. Looking forward to seeing more exciting leaves from that area in your shop.
    Cheers, K.

Really interesting William. It would be interesting to see how plants react chemically with so little or so much light along with that inclination and axillary picking. I ordered a cake (from Dong Guo, Spring 2020) and very much look forward to tasting it. Looking forward to the follow-up video also.

Another great video with all that agricultural details that only William can bring. Some of my favorite sheng pu-erh is from Mengku generically, but I didn't know much about the area specifically.

William, you speak often about caring for the soil in a careful manner and don't use pesticides in your own tea gardens but you confess to using herbisides in summer. These are equally toxic so I am left wondering about this discrepancy in your approach. Can you talk about that sometime soon? Thanks! -Fred

The use of herbicide on jingmai was stopped two years ago due to a push from the government and easy to find workforce coming from Myanmar.
For herbicide it is simply a matter of cost. It is faster to and kills more weeds than mechanical ways.
I find no evidence to support herbicide reduces soil fertility. It does create chemical pollution on the plot and in the water bodies though.
Interestingly, herbicide is highly used in no-till agriculture. It is the easiest way to cut the weeds without disturbing the top soil and in that case it does contribute indirectly to fertility.

      @@farmerleaf61 ,
      hello William!
I typed in an order on your site to get your interesting tea from Baka and Banuo. It´s kind of risky for you, cause of our personnel here in Germany. I really hope that your tea will not cause trouble again. Maybe we have luck! I really hope so.
