  • My Diamond Head Elephant ear was purchased as a bulb and grew 5 feet tall in one summer. The Diamond Head Elephant Ear is a beautiful plant with leaves that start out green and turn dark as the leaf matures. The stems are an amazing crimson red color. This tropical plant stands out in front of a group of green banana plants and canna lilies.
I found the Diamond Head Elephant Ear for sale at Costco for $13.99 for a pack of two bulbs. I have previously purchased Diamond Head bulbs marketed as Jumbo Diamond Head Elephant Ear Bulbs and the plants from the Costco bulbs grew just as large as the Jumbo version.
I watered the plant 3 to 4 times a week and fertilized it 2 times a month. It grew to about 5 feet tall in six months. The Diamond Head eventually died off to the ground as winter came.

      Is it edible. For food

I dont know if it’s edible, but the bulbs cost about $10 each, so they are too expensive to eat. The taro and malanga are much cheaper for about 50 cents to $1.50 each depending on size.
