And my first fight? A Cait. My neck still hurts from the tonal whiplash.

My favorite part is that Partitio's Scent of Commerce in Winterbloom implies the theme is diagetic (that is, it's an actual song in universe). My theory about it comes from the Mercantile Manuscript from the Sai Scent of Commerce. The Manuscript says that in the war between the humans and the beastmen, the Caits sided with humanity (while the Octopuffs remained neutral). I think that Cait's Theme is a folk song from that time. Originally associated only with Caits, it eventually became associated with Octopuffs because they bring good fortune
Magic and Soulstones can't miss, so use them and hope the Cait sticks around to use a healing/attacking skill. Don't try physical attacks unless they're guaranteed to hit like multi-hit attacks -- the Cait's Avoid is too high
A fun way I found to kill it is the inventor first passive skill and you get a free kill, then leghold trap (hunter skill, meaning you have to play Ochette) and critical scope to make sure you can hit it. The hunter’s take aim skill also helps
Go to the Brightlands, outside the abandoned village at night is a Black Market, the one run by Clerics will sell Soulstones for various prices. All you really need are Medium ones and you can kill off the Regular and Cultured Caits as well as Octopuffs too.
The idea of separating the music for caits and octopuffs is genious. It cements them as legendary and for new players they immediately know something is different.
The irony is a cait was my first encounter after the opening sequence. I took it as 'oh this must be this area's music' only for literally no other battle to play that music. Leaving me confused for a while. I figured it out eventually

Oh my god this gets my music juices flowing!! Definitely my favorite from 2 so far. It fits the whimsical feel of catching a rare beast while everyone struggles to do so. Gives me a John Williams feel
Found a Cait p much right after finishing Thrones chapter 1 (unfortunately I had no reliable way to break it at that point, only had one soulstone). The song caught me off guard! Love it
Farming Caits for money via Collect: * Have any character as a Merchant as well as Partitio and Ochette in the party with each having A Step Ahead/Boost Start or have Castti use Pomegranate leaves with her Latent Power with A Step Ahead * First turn, cap out the BP of a Merchant character who will use collect on the turn after and have Ochette use Leghold Trap to lock the Cait as last in priority to act * Fully Boost and use Collect on the second turn (Full charge will always give a 95% chance of collecting leaves from a target) Enjoy the leaves pouring in from each fight against a Cait/Cultured/Chubby Cait
It’s as if the game is trolling you through the music - when all your standard attacks are missing or do negative damage and it’s all grinning “You mad bro?! 😂” Needed and online guide to realize that only a soul stone can defeat these things
Elemental attacks work best, easiest way to down a Cait is capture a Light Elemental near Wellgrove and raise Ochette's BP, then let it rip, should kill it easily. Soul Stones do work, just be prepared to shell out quite a few leaves to have a supply of it.

Use Soul Stones to get the Cait enemies! I was having trouble defeating them at first because attacks missed a lot, but the Soul Stones work very well against the Cait enemies!
I've killed a few Caits and Octopi just using Hikari's critical spear attack fully boosted. I haven't seen that skill miss yet, and if you have Partitio with boost start and higher speed, you can generally get that fully boosted attack out on round 1. I don't think any have actually fled me yet. Maybe I've just been lucky.
@LittleScaredyBoy Spoiler for Partitio Chapter 3: In my opinion that's only good for hiring alrond, selling, and maybe some other minor uses with npcs or something because they just give a random positive status effect to, if I remember correctly, all your team members. (It does not gove the same status effect to each character, random for all of them.)

Due to the specific woodwind (I think it is Clarinet) which is often associated with the Klezmer Genre due to how commonly that instrument is used or how it is stereotyped with Klezmer. It sort of pigeonholed the instrument to that genre.

you can use the "leaves throw" skill at a cait by boosting the skill about 3 times and instantly kill it, learn it with the challange path action

Medium grade Soulstones are the bare minimum you need to oneshot a Cait. Small size ones won't cut it.

This is why I've hoarded my soulstones. Mediums for the regular, and Large for the chubby ones.

There are also items that boost the encounter rate of caits and octopuffs
It took long? It was pretty easy to level characters up.
@P N Bewildering Grace gave me 10+ level ups after a single battle. I ended up overleveled by the end of the game.
