WOW! WOW! WOW! You still have to learn the ending?????? It was fabulous Paul! Thanks so very much. It's such a pleasure to see and hear you play. You are an inspiration to every organist.
As a retired organist, I am frankly yearning for talented organists to play OTHER masterworks. I have heard this Widor work since before University and over and over on utube. I am 66. Lovely organ btw.
Greetings Paul from Virginia, USA. Since I am not trained in music, I am one of those persons who enjoys the talents of people like you. I would not know if anything was "off." Every time you sit on an organ bench your fingers fly over the keys and your feet dance across the pedals. And out of the pipes a joyous sound fills the building. We who listen and watch are always blessed by your ability to make those notes blend together lifting up praise to God. We are blessed by young organists who commit their time to share organs from around the world. I do enjoy when you can share a little about the church and community where these organs are located. Thanks again.
The look on your face at the end was just priceless. But, what I will say to you, is you can make ANYTHING sound amazing. You are so gifted and talented (bloopers and all). 🌴🌞🌴
I'm finally learning this piece now! I picked up the first few pages years ago but never got past that point. My goal is to have it ready for Christmas. Excellent playing, as usual!
Bravo, Paul! This is such a difficult piece, and one known by so many people. I have to say that no matter how often I hear the Widor played it is a very special thrill. Your performance of it (ending and all) was no less thrilling! And what a wonderful instrument on which to perform this piece! Gorgeous!
Dear Paul , that was awesome!! You have amazing facility!! I know how much strength and endurance that piece requires. Between your piano technique and playing on a lot of tracker organs, you certainly keep up your facility. I love that piece , the sound of that organ and you and these inspiring videos! Thank you so much, Royden
wow that 32 foot bombarde - magnificent Paul. You have a great sense of humour -if we can't laugh at ourselves we may as well be robots. ps it works in relationships too. Best wishes from your old Australian/Scottish friend.
Greetings from Florida, USA where we are awaiting the arrival of Hurrcane Milton. Fortunately we are on the other side of the State where it cou;ld exit as a Cat 1. Love the tempo and the ending.
Hi Paul your amazing young man so talented it must of taken you years to lean to play like that I've got full respect I've watched most of your videos please keep it up thankyou from martin ps i love the socks lol.
Hallo, lieber Paul. Widor ist eben was ganz Besonderes.
@@kiewskywhich video are you referring to? The one I have is from St.Surplice in Paris and played at a substantially slower tempo observing the Semiquavers being correctly played staccato. The acoustics in St.Surplice are very keen and had Widor played the piece any faster the clarity of the notes would have resulted in one blur, as has been proved on various cases in recitals and recordings. The video recording I have, despite the age of it, is as clear as a bell and every Semiquaver can be heard even during the “Cross hands” section towards the end. I have the sneaking suspicion that some less professional Organists take a degree of advantage of keen acoustics and maintain a rapid tempo, hoping that any errors or miss-hits will not be detected by an audience. My Organ teacher drilled into me that unless a piece can be performed 99.9% note perfect, it should not be performed in public until 100% accuracy has been achieved by good old practice. He also maintained that the Widor Toccata was the most common piece used and abused by novice organists to bluff their way through.
Superb, Herr Fey!! The HJ Nelson / Krawunkel collaboration has been enormously successful here. If you are ever in Malta, try the organ at the Basilica Christ the King in Paola. It is another HJ Nelson!
Thank you Paul for the music! Excellent every time. If possible, can you play the Downton Abbey theme on the pipe organ? I think it would be a fantastic piece to listen to on this instrument. Many thanks in advance.
A quote from Widor, from Vierne's autobiography: "Grandeur is the organ’s essential characteristic. ‘This is because, of all musical instruments, the organ alone can sustain sound indefinitely and with the same intensity. The organ can be picturesque only rarely and, even then, care must be taken not to expect it to imitate orchestral and pianistic effects. That would be an inartistic parody. Although Bach has left some miraculously descriptive works, it must be noted that pieces in this style are in a very small minority compared with those in very slow or moderate tempos. Moreover, independent of all other considerations-basic and quite important-the very nature of the organ’s sound and the absence of a percussive attack are contrary to the concept of great velocity. The organ is almost always played too fast. Young people easily yield to the desire to dazzle the audience by this means. Beware! It is a false virtuosity appropriate to the circus-not the tribune.”
Superb Paul. Next time you are in the west country, and, perchance, visit Plymouth you have an open invitation to play the lovely 3 manual Compton organ in the parish church of saint Peter and the holy apostles, Wyndham square. We would love to see and hear you. Julian Davies, organist and director of the music.

Paul hi, very recent subscriber since your Italian Tour. From your playlist titles I can't figure out whether you have some teaching videos where you just talk more about different organs and how they're constructed. Full mechanical? Pneumatic? Hybrids and electric? I was wondering what the largest organ you've ever had the pleasure of playing? And with that how difficult is it to learn an organ with many more manuals and ranks than you're used to? So if there is a playlist with some of this information please direct me, otherwise please consider doing more educating in a video or two. Reading the history of pipe organs in Wikipedia starting three centuries before Christ is fascinating but I would much rather, hear and see it from somebody who plays these magnificent instruments and also enjoys the history's. Wiki noted that the Pipe Organ was the most complicated device ever created by man from the 17th century until the late 19th century when the telephone exchange was first created. That's incredible! And how anyone could learn to play all the different types would be interesting to me at least, and I think others.
