this wouldn't work for the texts though, because I believe the game is not flipped, it is mirrored on the middle horizontal axis.

Muddled cross not working on depths and beyond is due to the nature of the item being to duplicate and replace items with red items. The developers most likely are unable to prevent it from replacing story items like the polaroid into red items and duplicate the giant chests you jump into so they prevent the use of the muddled cross entirely to preserve the ability to progress in the game. going into a crawlspace is the one loophole to go around this but its better to do so on cathedral/sheol as going into a duplicated chest wont change anything. This disabling is first activated on depths 1 due to the chance of an XL floor being generated. muddled cross also does not change the floor rooms/boss to be that of a future floor, but rather changes all room background to a random floors background, similar to the void stage.
Kinda weird that they can't prohibit story items from being changed, considering that's a function present in vanilla Isaac

However, it seems the method they chose to convert items is kind of a dirty hack in the first place. Someone else below theorized that the reason the D6 turned into Zodiac was because it was forcibly overwritten to be one without actually being rolled or changed (Like a "Zombie" Zodiac with a D6 code of paint). If the mod creator used brute force methods like that, it might work on a level that overrides all safeguards the game has. It's not like it wouldn't work, but it would require them to redo the way they generate red room items in the first place.

15:55 I think the reason your D6 became zodiac is beacuse it wasn't supposed to be a D6 (?). Maybe the Ultra Secret Room pool is over writing the item itself, so when you leave it behind, while not in a "red room", it turn back to the original item

To be fair, the "flipped" floors seems to simply "replace" one item with another item from the red item pool (which is why he got two red keys and also why his D6 transformed into Zodiac when he swapped it for the Bible).
To be completely fair, he probably didn't know that and just forgor 💀

Also items inside the crane game are not considered 'seen' until they are pulled out of the crane game

I think it doesn't work if the next floor layout would be an unlocked floor? You unlock Womb, Cathedral and Chest, so it doesn't let you spoil yourself and go there. It may have been originally intended to let you do that, thus why it works on Cathedral from the crawlspace confusing it. It then doesn't work on Chest crawlspace since it was never intended to.
Matt not noticing the forbidden crawlspace into black market into crawlspace combo at the end was unfortunate. Imagine what secrets awaited him in there, truly a MattMan moment.
I think what Matt really learned from this video is that Isaac's Heart is actually a goated item and he needs to do a run where he starts with it now.

I think why he couldn't flip depths is because going to the womb would raise it to full heart damage on hit, which either caused irreparable bugs or was too hard to code properly or just was deemed to be too much of a spike

I believe that the item sets you 2 floors down, and the reason you couldn't use it in depths 2 is because it may cause the poloroid and negative to spawn
I’m no isaac mega genius but i think the mod replaces all your items with items from the ultra secret room pool.
That’s why when you put down the D6 it became zodiac because that’s what it was supposed to be before it got replaced into ultra secret room since you put it down in normal mode.
I had the same thought about the final bosses but you noticed it too lol
