- Have you ever accidently locked yourself out of your bathroom or bedroom and didn't know how to get back inside. This video show you one why how to get inside, using the emergency lock hole on the outside of the door handle.

For anyone in my situation who finds this video, be aware that it's specifically for doors that lock by turning the lock, as opposed to pushing in a button. For the latter, it's a similar technique except instead of looking for a groove all the way in the back to rotate, when you jiggle around in there you'll find a sort of "column" you can feel poking through the center of the empty space inside. Find it and push on it to unlock the button kind of door.
Do you know how to get a screwdriver out if you've pushed in too far?

Tip (if you don't have screwdriver): I used one tube of ink of a pen and I just bite a little bit the top for make it flat and remember turn it to the right, works good! Thanks bro you save my life 🤣

Worked perfectly! I didn't realize though that it leaves the lock in the same state. I unlocked the door and then put everything away and realized that I had locked myself out again, haha

I locked out the bathroom and I called to maintenance office since I live at an apartment. They told me they don’t unlock doors and gave me a number for Locked Door Service. We always had these hole opening privacy locks growing up but the mechanism, in ever house except the one I have now, was to simply stick anything that fits into the hole, hitting a button, that pops it unlocked. But I see I could even lock them from the outside with this type. Awesome news, very relieved 🍾

Is there a way to prevent this from beng able to open the door? I recently had to move in with my grandma as at 23 years old is not fun that when I lock the door she just uses a knitting needle to open the door.

Thank you!! One minute into watching your video I went out to the garage and found a hotdog roasting stick and it did the trick in less than 30 seconds! And in case anybody’s interested the type of lock I have is the button that you press inward -it’s not the turning kind of knob as shown in this wonderful video.
Thanks a bunch. One of the kids turned the locking mechanism then exited and closed the bathroom door. Thought I would need a locksmith, but your video helped. No eyeglass screwdriver, but I opened a bobby pin and used the flat end to eventually find the groove. Took about 15 minutes but definitely saved me at least a Benjamin. Great video.
Look above the door jam (in newer homes, probably) and you might find a tool that fits that little hole. It lays flat so feel along the edge. Leave it there when finished so it will be handy for the next time. Each one of my doors with a privacy lock has one.

Fantastic! It's a Sunday and I was thinking I'd have to call the landlord or a locksmith at weekend rates but in two minutes I was back in with no problem. Except getting the paper clip I had tried before I watched this video out that was stuck. Finally got the paperclip out but wished I had watched this video first. Used a computer repair kit screwdriver. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video. It was just what I needed.

Great video, thanks for demonstrating! Also worth noting (as I found out) that some of these types can be opened simply by pressing the pin (inside the handle) inwards then twisting the handle, so no need for a flat head screwdriver.

We used to have push button locks. Somewhere along the line they’ve been replaced with turn lock style and I guess I’ve not gotten locked out until today!

I was about to get a hammer and knock the knob off. But, as a last resort I searched TH-cam and came across your video. It clearly shows how to unlock the lock. I found a baby Allen wrench and it took me less than 15 seconds to unlock the door. I knew there was a reason for that hole. Thank you for posting this video and saving my lock and door jamb.

PSA - if you don't have a tiny AND long enough screwdriver just unscrew the outer part if you can and tilt the inside shaft like instructed here. Don't forget to temporarily put the knob back to twist the door open.

If you do not have such small screwdriver you can just unscrew two bolts on both sides and rotate thing with pliers to the right.

There is two button on the bottom or around the knob and press the button down and pull it fiddle with them bobby pin and it should unlock the door
