Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.

I'm a real amateur (i fished only 2-3 times, twice as a kid, last time my friend helped since we needed dinner) but I would like to learn and do it more.
Thank you for explaining the knots. Knowing how to tie the hook/lure properly is a wonderful beginning (lol)! I will watch more of your videos in the future.
My main problem is opportunity. I live in Montréal (QC) and get few chances to go to our beautiful rivers and plentiful lakes. I even have access to a secluded private lake with speckled trout through a family acquaintance but so far cannot find someone who enjoys fishing enough to go to the country or woods, especially since the covid outbreak.
The "top 4 knots" is the first fishing video I have seen. I hope you keep making them and if you ever come to the area,
I can point out to you to some nice spots.
    Thanks again,
"City girl in need of help"

The snell knot is the most reliable and the strongest knot. I prefer to use the noose knot when I can’t do the snell knot. Always works. Snell knot has never failed me and the noose knot is stronger than the line itself. Good vid all in all.

Your video makes it really easy to understand exactly how to tie your knots! I have always replaced the improved clinch with the Trilene Knot because there is a second contact point of line in the eye of the hook. I am not sure if that really makes it stronger or not but I do have confidence in it. Really well made video, thanks!

I had used the improved clinch knot for years and as far as i know it has never been the culprit of a lost fish but i have yanked a few hooks out of some mouths so i will definitely learn to tie the snell knot for swim baits and stuff like that. I dont use braid much but i will probably get some for my casting reels as i hear thats like the best thing to do ever lol i really dont know a whole lot about the technical bits and bobs of fishing, i just know darker water darker baits or bright baits, these little quick tip/how to videos are life savers for people like me lol

I use a uni knot almost exclusively. Pretty much every hook or bait. I find it's the easiest knot to tie for me. I can do it with my eyes closed, in the dark, in the wind, doesn't matter. Palomar for drop shots. I haven't tied an improved clinch knot in ages.

I like the uni knot on crankbaits just works for me and is supper strong. Just last week i got a lipless hung up on ten pound mono. Working it slow and easy i pulled up two waterlogged 2x6 boards will alot of rope on them. Pretty nice i got my lipless back and gained a couple extra cranks that had been broke off on the same lumber.

I’m old. 151 years old, okay, plus or minus100. I’ve been fishing for a long time. There was a long break between 19 and now, things have changed a lot. Once I heard about braided line I had to get infinity so far I love it but, there’s never a buy here. I’ve been using swivels forever. I’ve learned that it’s better not to use a swivel. Okay, so then it’s time to tie the not. I’m not fast at then at all. I watched your 4 knot video. I need to get some string I guess to practice.... i don’t think you talked about the different knots to use with the different line. I heard you say at the end of the video that you reply to all of the comments, well I’ve left quite a few comments and as far as I know, there hasn’t been any reply. I understand, you’ve gotten a lot more popular since you shot that video. I’m proud to be an M’Fer, lol.

Love the double uni knot you just have to be careful if you're using a rod with small guides, as It can get a bit bulky. In which case I'll use the Alberto knot just because it's quick for me to tie on the water and it hasn't given me any issues.

nice review man. good knots. I like them all but I did learn something about the snell knot. I don't know if it is just me.. but I did want to point out that you should take a look at the snell knot vs palomar knot. its crazy to think... but the snell knot, even though the hook does pop up which would makes you think its going into the roof of the fishes mouth, normally rolls and the fish actually feels the bend in the hook and not the hook point itself. sounds crazy the way I'm explaining it. but just thought you might want to check it out. great videos though.

  • @jamesaritchie1
    @jamesaritchie1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

All good knots, but while I do use the double uni for making any kind of splice, the single uni can replace the first three with no problems, if you learn its uses. I find it incredibly simple to tie, even in the dark, and this matter for much of my fishing. You can even use it for snell knots.
The only time the uni doesn't work for me is when I want to add an extra hook or two to my line, and want to be able to remove them easily. For this, a simple loop knot is perfect. If the single uni comes untied or breaks, it's because you didn't tie it properly.
The Palomar is a great knot, but my experience is that it works no better than a properly tied uni. I've also found that I don't always want a drop shot to hang straight up and down. It depends on the plastic I use. With a uni, I can make it hang in whatever direction I want.
The double clinch knot has been around forever, and it is a good knot, but it's also incredibly outdated, and the last knot I would now use for a hook or lure.. It is NOT the simplest knot to tie, or even the second simplest, and when I see a knot :break" or come untied, I can bet it's an improved clinch knot. And try tying that sucker in the dark. I can tie a uni, or a Palomar, in half the time, and tie both with my eyes closed.
The main problem with any knot is the person tying it. Knots break or slip either because they weren't tied properly, or even more common, because the angler doesn't retie nearly often enough. If you check your knot and the line after every catch, any knot works. Tiny nicks cause breakages. You should snip off a few inches of line and retie after three or four catches at most, and if your fishing on rocks, you should carefully examine the line OFTEN, even if you haven't caught anything.
As an experiment, I used a simply anchored overhand "granny" knot for several months, and had no problems at all with slipping or breaking. I did the same thing by hanging weights from line tied with every knot I know. The results told me that some knots are stronger than others, but even the weakest is more than strong enough because I had a lot more line breaks than knots breaks or slips.
I even tried a loop knot for lures because I knew it improves the action of some lures, and even worms with some techniques. I had no problems there, either.
Anyway, we all do things our own way, but I've found almost nothing a simple uni can't handle as well as any other knot. The Palomar, too, can't handle almost anything, but since I tie snells and splices with a uni, I use it for hooks and lures, as well, and it works wonderfully. I simply see no reason for using four knots. I know a few anglers who use six. Maybe more, but I know they use six. It's pointless.
What it really boils down to is use whatever knot you like, check your line and retie often, regardless of the know you use. Until and unless the uni lets me down, which it never has, I'll keep using it for everything. If I ever do change it will be to the Palomar, never, ever the improved clinch. I want a knots I can tie with freezing hands when it's too dark to see my hands. If you can't close your eyes, thread a hook, and tie the knot, even with cold, wet hands, it is, to me, a bad knot. Maybe you can do this with an improved clinch knot, but I can't, and certainly not as easy as the uni or the Palomar.
