    Thank you for this comparison!
    Though I find it very difficult even with good headphones to hear differences. Probably because you already have a fantastic voice.

      Thanks for your comment. All are detailed but. SV33 for everything, in a controlled environment. SR314 for a little lift with a dull voice - watch the pops. SR40V for a flat representation with a little 'grunt' in low-mids, and clean thunder when used close for low voices... IMHO

    Thanks Anton, again an excellent comparison! I do prefer the sound of the SR40V over the SR314 on your voice, too. The extra push of the SR40V seems to be a result of the hypercardio pattern - which could be compensated with an extra inch of distance (I noticed this with the KMS105, too). A direct comparison of the SR40V and the SV33, while giving the SR40V slightly more distance than the SV33 to compensate for it's narrow polar pattern, would be interesting - these two sound quite similar to me, and both suit your voice perfectly.

    you finally did it! the SR314 definitely scoops the 3-5k range a bit - can be better for some singers like belting women and loud resonant high tenors. anyway, I love all three - all game-changers

    Hi Anton, thank you very much for your excellent reviews which I have been following over the past few years. I have a similar range to yours and was never completely happy with any of the mics I had previously used (list to long to show but include many of those you have also reviewed). Following your reviews I purchased the SR40V which I prefer in this review and have used very successfully for live shows over the past few years and in general have been extremely happy with this microphone. I also have an Audix VX10 which compares very favorably to the SR40V. It has almost the same output, and these 2 have far greater output than anything else I have tried in hand held stage condenser mics. In the end I have come to prefer the Audix VX10 for reasons that I find virtually impossible to articulate except to say that in the same way you have described the KSM105 as adding some lipstick to the upper range, perhaps the Audix VX10 is doing the same thing in the lower range - although how this is done is not apparent to me in the objective data - charts etc. There is something there that makes its sound a little more appealing than the SR40V "to my ear". But I will never part with my SR40V and sometimes switch between the 2 preferring the VX10 for more intimate venues. Appreciate you need to acquire the mics you test but if you ever have the chance to review the Audix VX10, it would be extremely interesting to see how it compares in your testing to the SR40V.

      Thanks for your input, I've looked at the Audix website, and it's a mic I'd like to try (I'll see if they'll lend me one). I notice it is flat across the middle but has a lift spread acros 100 Hz at the low end and another across 8 kHz. I wonder if the VX10 sounds similar to a Beyer M88!

    • @philipjardie7970
      @philipjardie7970 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AntonBrowne It would not surprise me, but add some condenser clarity, especially useful for the proximity effect. Perhaps that lift at the 100 Hz is where the "Mascara" (rather than lipstick) for the low end is coming from. Have not had the pleasure to try the M88 but certainly have both the V70 and V96 and each of these has their merits but not in the class of either the SR40V or the VX10. The V96 is also a beautiful mic but has such a low output by comparison to the SR40V and VX10 that it requires a completely different gain and eq set up to make it work, it seems designed for a different application such as a relatively loud stage environment which as a solo performer, is not my challenge. Anyway, let's hope they do lend you a VX10!

    I wanted to buy SR314, but after I've heard SR40V, I've started to doubt my decision. It sounds so manly and mature. After your comparison, I would suggest to use SR314 for girls and SR40V for boys. But of course I adore the new design. Wish they make a new design for SR40V. You sold it for me. SR314 is more clear. But there is something about SR40V that I like. As I've told you before, the sound is darker and more mature. Maybe the reason why I like it so much is because it suits your voice.

    Personally I think you have more phasing and rumble on the low end of the SV33. I don’t know what your LF room interactions are, but maybe some better bass traps would make the SV33 sound better on the low end. The 314 makes you sound much more natural.

    Hi Anton
    Excellent and very detailed review
    After listening to your review I purchased SR40V directly from a reputable supplier and after only few uses it stopped working and the supplier said the SR40V is discontinued and they offered to replace it with SR314B with refund of the difference in the price what do you advise ?

    It seems like in SR40V the gain is set too high.

    • @AntonBrowne
      @AntonBrowne  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be. I set them all up by sight and sound, and then when I start, I have to adjust and fiddle to get them sounding right... but maybe I'm getting them wrong by fiddling. Dunno!

    Hi Anton I am just wondering if you have ever tried out the vintage AKG D330-bt? this was the "flagship" microphone from AKG at the time and was used a lot by the girls in ABBA during their tours, they are usually a nickel colour and then later they were dark charcoal grey and there was a version 2 as well. I recently purchased a first version in nickel, these microphones have 2 slide switches for various contours in bass roll off/ treble boost ect and I have tried this microphone out and find it to be very high quality sound but I would really like to see you review one to see what your findings are. I would ideally love to purchase the Earthworks SR 40 capsule for my Shure wireless system one day as these seem to be just INCREDIBLE! and the best in terms of sound but wow they are expensive 😂

    I think the frequency response chart for the SR40V is sus. Shouldn't it be flat like the SR40? See your video Jul 5, 2019 - th-cam.com/video/lzrsCz64CKE/w-d-xo.html
