I saw a meme just last week that had a guy looking at his phone and the caption is, "Me waiting for my device to stop ringing because I don't use it for that." 😂

I'm a handyman in the UK. I never answer my phone. It's such a inefficient waste of time for all the reasons you mention. I wait until Friday - my admin day, and go through the phone messages and call them back.

Excellent tips. Not many things worse then working an underestimated job.

Wow, this is a counterintuitive message that I would have probably taken years to learn myself. Thanks for sharing! That was worth punching the Subscribe button.

Love this. Reminds me of what Dan Kennedy teaches. Great to see this thinking about ideal clients applied to this line of work!

And if you ever hear “you’re the 10th handyman I called, run.”Yes my experience so far with clients that need you NOW, needs to constantly call or “ you’re the 10th handyman I called” usually are not ideal, they wait till last minute to resolve issues and now they want you today to do a $1000 dollar job but for $100 and they will be very very demanding. The other type of client who is well organized and willing to wait means they plan well, since they plan well they’re good at managing their money so they got no issue paying what is right and working with you. If you’re not happy to service a client because you got a bad vibe, guess what? your intuition is correct.

that's a killer beard, I'm jelly. I agree with answering the phone, it's so inconvenient but there has been countless times people calling wanted something done right away, they didn't care how much. Last week was a prime example. Simple fascia repair on a 2 story house. It took me 15 mins $950. If I hadn't answered the phone, someone else would've made that easy money.

Your work van video came in my feed and been checking out some of your videos in addition.
I'm a solo landscaper but these business tips you've been going over are transferable to any sort of blue collar buisness.
BTW how did you go about learning the hands in skills required to be a Handyman? Did you work for a company before or mostly self taught?
    Keep up the excellent content

Thanks for your support! I'm mostly self taught, but have a background in construction management. Let me know what other kinds of videos would be helpful for you.

I've just started my business so I mostly answer every call right away. But my voicemail greeting let's people know it might be 24 hours before I can get back to then and let's them know that a text with contact info and photos will help me help them more quickly. It does not work out that way often though. Do you use your voicemail greeting to refer callers to your website to fill out your service request form? If so does that work pretty well? Thanks for another helpful video! -Travis

Hey Travis, nicely done. That’s a smart way to automate the initial contact process. Yes, I have a similar setup - my voicemail greeting does point clients to my website where they can fill out a form. I get a notification on my iPhone when that happens and I review later that day or next day. Though like you said, in your case it’s best to answer calls and build an initial client base.
Fortunately, I’ve had good success with this method for several years. I would say that about 75% of potential clients who call do fill out the form. Also I find that the people who take the time to fill out my form are more likely to hire me. It kind of acts as a way to weed out the impatient people looking to speak with someone immediately.

Hey man just found your channel been binging your videos they’re super helpful. Do you run any ads? You should make a video on that process, maybe show examples of the ads you use/ made and the process of posting that ad things like that. I feel like that’s one thing you can’t really find here on TH-cam.. it does make sense why since your competition will possibly see this but it can definitely help many people

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm glad you find my videos helpful! I don't run any ads and have been fortunate enough to get leads from other free sources like FB groups. Regardless, I think a video on setting up ads would be helpful - will add that to the list!
