    i have a late 60s m65, with a name patch-name is Rickard, and a division insigina patch(1st cavalry) came with a old wool liner, of all the coats i have, the brass zipper on my m65 is the best

    Cool collection, I've been wearing field jackets since 1970 .the older ones 51 or 53 models were heavier and had wool lined bottom pockets, really keep your hands warm , the collars are pointed like a shirt . The old ones were warm even without the liner. You can tell the year made its in part of the numbers on the tag but it will only be a two digit number right after the dla 100 number

    Damn. We never had nice field jackets issued to us. They were old and color faded to a very light sun beaten olive drab. Sprayed stencil lettering like the EGA on pocket and maybe detachment stencils like FSSG or FMF on the back...its been a long time ago so don't quite remember. No woodlands camo pattern. Probably Army hand downs. They had more money. All the good shit. They issued field jackets in winter and you had to turn them in when we checked out of unit. They were never ours to keep. Government property. Man were our field jackets abused. I froze my ass off in them. Liners made all the difference and liners were shot.

    Nice collection man, I have pretty much the same collection as you. One OG-107 from 1980, one M81 from 1998, and a DCU one from 1999.
    Sort of interested in an ACU version for completion's sake, but probably more interested in earlier field jackets.
    Funny thing is that technically the M65 still sees service. Marines practising for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration were out wearing old woodland ones to avoid scuffing up their service uniforms. Just goes to show, even with all the advantages of Goretex... An old field jacket still has it's uses

    • @hiwayman981
      @hiwayman981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true; I don't know why the U.S. military doesn't still issue them. They could be worn over the MCCUU/ACU in garrison, or as a stand-alone garment in the field over all of the layers of insulation that are currently available for use with the APECS/ECWCS systems that basically every serviceman/woman already has. And all I ever hear is how awesome the M-65 liners were from guys to whom they were issued. The wearing of the ECWCS level 3 fleece jacket over the ACU's as an outer layer is just dumb (dumb looking, too) - it's just not how the system is supposed to work. The Army is currently trying to update the ECWCS system, as well as make jungle fatigues that are distinctly different from the issued ACUs; why don't they "reinvent" the field jacket for use as a winter-weight issued top?

    Nice vid
    Seems I'm not the only one with a collection disorder. First bought one in 1984,woodland,still have it although worn and little tighter,since then I have 2 olive,2 black,1 sand,1 blue,all alpha.
    I have lots of other jackets but these are still my favourite of all time.
    Have a couple of liners and if really cold put a medium liner on ,then a large,then m65.
    One I have made more water resistant by melting a candle with a hairdryer over it,works really well.

    Who is the desert M65 made by, l haven't got a desert M65? I think the best zip maker is Scovill, l always check the zip maker specially if the label is missing. The early Ma1 jackets had Conmar, Scovill, brass zips,they are very special. The British also make great stuff. Over and Out !

      lucid - Might depend on the temperature you will be in.
      Allow for a liner or even two liners. S, M, L, XL. Short, regular or tall.

      Depends on your shoulder width. Medium-Regular is for regular height men with medium width body. Look for a Medium-Long. I'm a skinny 5'8" guy with weight of about 56kg. Small-Regular was not wide enough for me so now I'm waiting for Santa to bring me a Medium-Regular one :D

      Check out Teesar and Mil-tec. Both are different brands from the same company and Teesar is considered a more high quality and actually it is close to the real M65.

  • @jimkeskey
    @jimkeskey ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The M65 was overrated. It was also sloppy looking with the rounded collar and hidden hood. Plus, any jacket that uses Velcro can't be considered classic.
