These reviews are an incredible resource not only for figuring out what equipment will suit my needs, but also for learning! Never thought about the lenses fogging like that, I guess the engineers at GODOX didn't either xD
Great video as always, but for me. One of the key reasons, i got into these COB led fixtures was because they were a lot lighter, smaller easy to pack down, and move around. Recently, the makers of these fixtures have now made them bigger than my 1.2k HMI's!!
This is a universal asset for both cinema and theatre! I wouldn't take that out on a ride though. Something like this begs to be installed and left alone.
I love this light! Agreed on all your thoughts, I bought it for the spotlight mount but went with the reflectors in the end for weight, and output. Didn't realize there was a drum barrel for the 15 degree relfector, I'm going to try and get one to nest the reflectors in rather then the large case they come in!
Thanks for another video Andrew, great content as always. Will you be reviewing any of the new Amaran “S” series of lights with the updated color engine and improved photometrics? Would love to see maybe a comparison between something like the Amaran 100X vs the 100X s, or any of the lights in comparison. Also, any video coming soon about the Aputure infini-bars? Interested to see how it comparies to Helios or Titan tubes from Astera.
15:00 had me giggle not gonna lie. But seriously this looks great. Although when it comes to tge fan noises.. I'm pretty sure 99% of people will use it outdoors to light interiors anyway. Unless you're doing high speed capture maybe? But then sound isn't even recorded
Just took this unit on location, brand new light. Would not stay on for more than a few minutes. If you mount the fresnel, bring a crank stand cause this thing weighs like 50lbs in that config.
Thank you, Andrew...another amazing review! When you were speaking about the balance with the fresnel and barn doors, it seems that if the yoke was reversible, it might have helped solve that challenge. I assume you tried that, and it was not possible. I'm surprised that after all these years of your projection mount reviews, and complaining about them not rotating, new models STILL often don't rotate (Likely there are some that have listened) . Have there been any companies that involved you in very early stage product development, where there was an opportuity for you to provide your wisdom, and describe the pain points, and desired features or designs, early enough that they could integrate yoru ideas before first run manufacture? I know some of them have created fixes based on your (and others') feedback, and I love seeing when that happens!
Is there a way to attach any bowens accesories to this light? (like a mount converter) I can even live with the lack of the mount recognition so I will turn it off every time I turn on the light :D.
@@gaffergear That makes it a bit tough. I'm looking at 1200W led CoBs, and most of them have some proprietary mount. In case of Godox there are not many modifiers for it as I can see. Fresnel, reflectors (sold separately) and projection attachement. I do not see much more for it :(. I would love to use my 1200W fixture with my LD 150. I know bowens mount is not the best solution for big modifiers, but I do not have much $$$ to buy new set of modifiers for 1 light. GVM has hybrid mount. Their new 1200W has both their proprietary mount and bowens. But it's hard to say what is the quality of their units. Looks like 1200D is my only choice, but it's not bi-color :(
Still no godox adapter available but there is the new 1200x from aputure. And nanlux has also introduced an adapter for Bowens modifiers with their 900c, 1200b, and 2400b the NL mount lights
@@joeaddison Yeah 1200X seems like a way to go for 1200 bi-color light. Especially that I have plenty of Aputure bowens mount modofiers. Sad that F10 Fresnel is not compatible with 1200X :(.
Have you yet found yet found a fixture that would be a genuine suitable replacement for a tungsten etc source four zoom? they all seem to have huge down sides, are bulky, expensive and lack crucial operaton like barrel rotation. and interesteingly you dont seem to have a review for the etc lustr, is the a reason why?
They are supplied by the manufacturer, I get to keep them, sell them or have the value as a credit against other purchases. Not every light that comes in I will review.
Reduce light levels. Red is 1 F-Stop Green is 1/2 F-Stop They are also available in graduations so one side of the beam can be brighter than the other.
I sold it, too big and heavy for me. It was a hard decision because it was such a good light. At the end of the day I work out of small vans, and even though the evoke 1200B isn't as good in a lot of ways, I fit 4 of them into a small space.
I have few of the new pro series on hands, which is the GVM PRO650B as my key light and 300B at a lower intensity as head light. They are doing great at that pricing point, but the SSI rating,(Artificial light standard rating index, ) Output no good enough copmared to Aputure600, Nanlite. The pin point is that GVM doesn't support firmware update, surely it's bit shabby for this kind of stuff like lighting system itself. In a nut shell, if the pricing and funcs align with your expectations, that would be enough.
Had someone ask me for help with their gvm 600 watt, two minutes later the light stopped working. Unit just failed two days after purchase. Gvm is a heavy avoid in my opinion
This light is brighter than the Aputure 1200d AND the Nanlux Evoke 1200b with no modifiers!
I believe we got a consumer version of the bat signal
Love the review, especially the before/after of window light examples. Full disclosure, this is my Saturday night. Wild & crazy! I know.

thanks for the review, andrew! love the pup coming to check stuff out at 9:38
We love our Godox 1200Bi fixtures! Thanks for the great review. The build quality is outstanding.
oh my lord you got the beast!!!

I guess a theatre console would be able to compensate for the DMX cuing issues
Dear lord, that thumbnail image. Looks like you're in possession of something we'd need to alert the police about.
Found the snitch...

Good one! 😅
Love watching these reviews and learning so much about use cases that engineers forgot to consider when designing these products.
What a beast of a light. 23:50 😃 don't throw your back out Mr Lock!
excellent job. you go above and beyond on all these reviews. thank you

Hi Andrew love your videos! But would you be willing to make a video to cover how someone can get into wireless crmx for beginners?
Love this idea
@gaffergear this would be super helpful
agreed!
Now that is a unit!!
Supreme 😮
Good job 👍👍👍
Great review!
Thanks, Would like to see the 2400 version, and the M600R
I would love to get all the 2400s plus the elecrstorm series in a studio with a group of gaffers and get everyones thiughts
Also compare it to the new Aputure Electro Strorm XT 26 :D@@gaffergear
Looks like the Spotlight Mount Matches a Joker 800 HMI and blows the Spotlight Max out of the water! (1200D = 8,829 Lux)
Godox are definitely the brightest units out there, even in the 2400/2600 race. They are just heavy

If you reverse the yoke you can't tilt the fresnel down at all in flood
I wont lie the weight is making me dread seeing these on set
Wow , I want that!

Nothing, especially if you want a beam other than 19⁰ 29⁰ 36⁰
Do you buy all of the lights you review?
They are supplied by the manufacturer, I get to keep them, sell them or have the value as a credit against other purchases. Not every light that comes in I will review.
Regarding the weight/balance with the fresnel, Is the yoke reversible to shift the balance slightly?
But then you can't tilt down, the fresnel in flood hits the yellow rubber stoppers on the stirrup almost straight away.
Great reviews!!!!
Dumb question, but what are those wires for with a fresnel?
Reduce light levels.
Red is 1 F-Stop
Green is 1/2 F-Stop
They are also available in graduations so one side of the beam can be brighter than the other.

hi, I seem to have lost my rocket engine, have you seen it?- at 11:41 & at 14:46 !! can I have it back please 🙂
😂
Way too many negatives to consider this fixture better than a 1200B from Nanlux
The fuck is this machine gun
First comment 😂
Hahaha. Look at that size - That non-centered config with so much weight in front is insanely dumb in design.

They took a long time to appear, over 12 hours after the upload
