  • We needed some time out from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, so we took a short flight down to Ishigaki Island (and neighboring Taketomi Island) in search of sun, sand and stunning scenery.
We're firmly of the belief that Japan's Ishigaki Island is the closest we've been to heaven.
    Fast forward to:
    00:48 Weather on Ishigaki
01:07 Getting there from mainland Japan
    01:18 Getting around
    01:44 Kabira Bay
    02:19 Blue Cave
    03:25 Yonehara Palm Grove
    04:09 Yonekoyaki Craft Center
    04:58 Giving Tree Home
    05:40 Arakawa Falls
06:13 Bonnie Blue Fish and Chips

Awesome guide. My family went for the second time this year. First time was mainly up north in Ibaruma and second was a mix of in the city, Taketomi and up north. The northern part of the island is one of the darkest skies you'll find on earth. Making the night sky totally unreal. Highly recommend it for star watchers or to show your kids. Mangroves and a little monkey park to the north west are great for kids as well. Kayaking in the mangrove forest is easy and really cool. The snorkeling here is amazing...it's totally worth investing in a good mask and snorkel before you go...you'll want to spend hours in the water.

I went here during rainy season this past june and despite my poor timing, I absolutely love the islands. I was able to explore Ishigaki and iriomote a bit and it was wonderful... I can only imagine how great it would be with good weather!

despite the weather, it was still a great trip. One advantage to going in rainy season that is it wasn't busy at all! @@Rondo455

thanks for this guide. Love it! I only have July available to fly down, but I remember some friends of mine had a horrible trip because they went in July and it was a typhoon. Would you totally recommend not to go in July? not worth it? Too high percent chance of horrible weather?

Did you get any guidance? I also want to go in July and I’m worried if we would be stuck for 3 days in the hotel

    Hello.
I watched the video and everything about it was really great!
I do wedding photography on Ishigaki Island for foreigners, and I thought it would be very helpful to get a sense of what Ishigaki Island is like. I would like to put a link to this video on my website. Is it possible? Thank you.
