This isn't a "dude's" perspective, this is a "dude who doesn't use stickers and washi tapes'" perspective.
I'm a lady, used to rings, wanting to try strings, and like you I can't understand the fascination for stickers and washi tape. I'm sure there must be quite a few of us about.
Dave I have been waiting for this video for a while now. Very well done. I am looking at an A5. I have a personal creme brûlée and I love it but want a bigger size. I also have two midori's but I rarely if ever use them at all. My feeling is nothing compares to the Chic Sparrow line of TNs (Thank you Ali for that one). God bless

I just watched, liked and subscribed to your channel. I never do that- I also ordered an A5 notebook from Chic Sparrow- and the pads you use from jet pens - gonna give it a try for sermon prep- my current setup is MacBook Pro and iPad. I want to try writing them out instead- you have inspired me
Thank you for doing this from a man’s perspective. Nothing stowing the scrap booking videos by women but I can’t relate and was looking for some inspiration from a guys perspective. I’ve got 7 of them between my regular and passport size and it’s hard to find a use for more than two at a time so I mostly just switch the leather cover to a new color each season.

Jen recommends Otter Oil for the "creme" leather. It looks good on mine, it does darken the leather though, so use cautiously.
That's a takeoff on the real thing, which is mink oil paste or oil. I prefer the paste. It does wonderful things for leather.
I've always wondered about these! Wow, these notebooks are awesome! If my writing weren't chicken scratch I'd grab one 😅

Awesome video Dave! You’re hilarious. I’ve used oil on my journals too haha. I find olive oil to be the best for leather. It’s good for our skin and the leather too!

Next time use mink oil. This comes in liquid oil or in paste. Both work, but the paste form is best. It's good for any kind of leather. I have leather knife sheaths that are probably three times your age. Maybe older. My grandpa bought them when he was young, and mink oil paste has kept the leather better than new.
As for calendars, that's valuable space for all sorts of thinks. I use a calendar to keep tracks of appointments, of course, but I also jot down how many words I write per day, number of pages I read in a book that day, miles I walk, anything and everything I want to keep track of and total at the end of the month.
As for Traveler's Notebook, I have one, but it just doesn't meet my needs. It's too small, the inserts are much too thin, and don't open properly. I prefer a full-size planner with lots of room for notes, and a full-size notebook to back it up.
I do, however, love Apica notebooks. Great paper for fountain pens, good price, and nice setup. I buy the large size there, too. Of course, I also buy Rhodia, Clairefontaine, Tomoe River, Leuchtturm1917, Exceed, and various other notebooks from Japan, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, France, Germany, and several other European nations.
I have two fountain pens for every notebook I own, and a bottle of ink for each day of the year.
I could be wrong, but I think I have an obsession for such things.

Dave, I was looking at getting a note one for some time now. At first I was thinking of the Schuyler note books, but after watching your vid I like the first one you showed. You said that the size of that one is standard? When I went on their site they don’t have that size. Could it be a B6 slim? Also I saw that section on their site on conditioning the leather. You don’t have to do that with bibles right???! 😨

Where do you order these from? Actually, I have found the Travelers Notebooks and I do see the Midori Passport but I am not sure of what you are displaying here is the same thing. I like the bigger one you use for pulpit. And what is Ally’s TH-cam page? Thanks.

I actually just switched to fountain pens and I love them. I have to be careful as a lefty, but they're way smoother & consistent than the roller balls.

I use rubber bands to piggy-back the calendar to the other inserts.

How many pages does a sermon for take up? I use an A5 size leather sermon binder where I print an punch holes. I have been thinking about going to handwriting my sermons. (I would love to hear more on why you went that direction and the process of going. Was there a time when you were like, "what am I doing just embrace the technology?" lol). My sermons are expanded outline form and usually run from 8-12 half sheet pages. I have this same set up with the CD11 inserts for my Topical Study Notes like...(Miscellanies)
Mine run about the same, 8-12 half sheets. I've never uses a computer or an ipad in the pulpit. Paper just seems pure to me, it does't drag all the other business on a hard drive in the pulpit. That's just my preference. When I used manuscripts I typed them and had a printed from to teach from. Once I weaned off manuscripts, I just went to hand writing in my A5. For me, hand writing makes me process deeper and slower since there's no "delete" button.

Have you seen what chicks do to their notebooks? You dabble in stickers by comparison. Personally I really don't like all the frilly stuff, it's just wasteful distractions to me
