Staying poor is not a choice. For one thing, there is no such thing as free will. We merely operate in a series of actions.

I got tired of perpetual edge of starvation. So the hardest years were, going to college while homeless. God what a rough time. But I graduated, top of my class, and national honor society. Got a good job, and as soon as I could I told the food stamp office to take them away I didn't need them. They almost didn't believe me because no one gets off food stamps. You've achieved remarkable progress, which is truly commendable! It seems you've also had access to opportunities that many others may not have had, partly due to your determination and mindset to give things a try. It's important to recognize that not everyone facing poverty has the same abilities or chances. Often, we overlook how much intelligence and dedication it takes to overcome such challenges.

This advice does not stop tragedies happening. I knew a person who suffered and died of cancer, but even in the end he still counted the blessings, didnt complain, the doctors were amazed that he didnt get loud or abusive and complain like others, and offered inspiration to other sufferers in his ward at hospital. His courage and indifference to the situation made other sufferers feel a bit more positive, rather than the "misery loves company". The definition of "success" can change depending on the situation. Even somebody stuck in the hell of North Korea has different levels of success they can achieve relative to their situation, although in that case there is almost nothing good at all in that country. All one can do is find the positive in whatever options they have left, and make the most of them. Many people have health, and options, but still complain, and blame, for the person with cancer, they may look at others healthy who complain of their situation in disbelief. So if you are healthy right now, and aren't successful, then what the hell is going on ?

I wanted to give a friend a video similar to this one. She told me she'll watch it tomorrow, as if she doesn't have the time for it. Minutes later, she tells me she's watching Saturday Night Live and Dave Chapelle is back. during the pandemic/shutdown, so many of us had 6 months of freedom, to learn from videos like the one above, but blew it on the tiger King and other shows they binge watched. I realize people don't want to learn how to fish, they just want the fish.
Give two working people $1000 each. Person A buys the latest phone and person B invests it. Person A complains about being broke again while B Makes a $5000 gain. Person A looks at Person B as if he/she is greedy and should be taxed more, taking away some from what B earned, so that A can blow money again.

OK, how about this scenario; 2 different people, C and D get the 5k. C is broke, and therefore uses the 5k to pay off looming college debts, or rising bills, or replace chappy versions of things like shoes or appliance with slightly more expensive versions for longevity, make up the gaps that minimum wage jobs don't fill. Person D already has excess income, so while some of that 5000 does go to other things, much of it is unnecessary to their daily lives so they invest it or save it, and thus grow interest. So by the end of the month, person D has say.....an extra 2000$ on top of the 5k because they didn't need the money, and thus used it to grow the money they had because there was no immediate emergency that needed funds, however person C is back to square one because they couldn't afford to invest/save the money because they needed it for any number of things. Tell me; in this scenario, how is I a choice that person C is still poor and yet person D got richer?

What is projected to us is the grand goal of getting rich ! which is a total marketing lie.
Don't make money selling others your ideas of success .
Better guide them to do things they love anyways.
What are you trying to say is accumulate wealth and you'll be successful.

I agree with most of the points except for a few of them:
As Robert Greene says in his book 48 laws of power, acts of kindness are things that allow us to have influence over people. Not expecting gratitude is a total loss on our books. One should expect a bit more than just gratitude actually. We should think of it as a soccer match. once you score the opposite party should feel that inherent need to score an equalizer.. and it is our duty to make it clear and jog their memory from time to time. The longer the wait, the better the reward.. the bigger the favor, the higher the stakes (more power, more influence).
Reminds me of a scene from the popular TV series "Suits"...where Harvey Specter explains why he didn't give away the sports car to his powerful "Friend". He says because he wanted to make him wait for it & make his friend realize that he owes him BIG!! The balance sheet always has a debit & a credit.. and a non performing asset is of no use. People will forget favors at the drop of a hat.. so we must ensure that from time to time we remind our friends...how friendly we've been.
Now all this may not apply to family, however a family member should act like one. It's important to know the difference between friends & family...before we label people either of those. When you make progress your friends may not even benefit from your success, and where there's no benefit there's very little friendship..it takes a long time to go from "friends" to "family". Give 'em time, their true colors will come out... people unfollowing you when things get rough is fine because that's how people are (opportunistic, and that's what we should be too, but people following you just when slowly you're getting back on on your feet.. now that's fishy!! It almost makes you smile when you can cut through the BS and notice that sneaky move.
Poor people blame others? perhaps some people do... There's just one difference between voicing out grievances & complaining : Actions
However, just because an optimistic attitude & actions can get us out of a mess doesn't mean we should forget about our unfair society. Discrimination happens in many forms, and ignoring all grievances by calling them the cry of the weak & the pathetic isn't right.
You can teach a man to fish at your leisure but at a moment of hunger he doesn't need that lesson. Sure he won't have a choice and might just pick up the fishing rod if he's really that hungry. However, once his stomach is full, sooner or later, he'll stop eating and start thinking ..while everyone else had chicken in their buckets, he was asked to learn fishing.. a lesson at a time of vulnerability?? ...that sounds more like a cover up for something devious (like sabotage) rather than an actual lesson. If that's the case, which it is.. well doesn't matter what the animal is ..either way he'll probably PATIENTLY learn to scale. ;)
    An enemy's enemy is a friend :P

I sort of disagree with that bit of Alux's advice. Often the one resource you have in abundance when you're poor is time. A day's overtime at my job is $270, and when I started investing in stocks OT was a readily accessible source of extra money. After about 4 years, my portfolio was making ~$250/month in dividends so I stopped working as much, and currently it's worth six figures thanks to re-investing the dividends. But it started with doing more hours.

@@Paul_The_Drummer point is that if you work 3 jobs full time and spent money on wrong things you won't escape poverty. And I'm not trying to solve any social problem here like reduce poverty or something. If every person who is poor had right thinking, they could lift themselves out of poverty without much help from government. Like alcoholics and insanely poor people, they can get a job(or get welfare), find place to live, and use that money, or you can ask for good will of others and use that money to buy alcohol (I've seen many people do that) You can have 300 usd per month, and spend it on stuff like food or housing or stuff like phones, or you can take these money and buy 🐑 if in village or countryside, and after time sell it for higher, or you can go and start other business like buy sell of 🚗, or land, or anything, or start company for doing logistics or other stuff, and do it all, or invest, or start coffee or burger or shawarma shop or sell hotdogs on your own. You can live in country with really good education and infrastructure and law and welfare, but still be poor because of inadequate use of money, like many people in 🇺🇸 do, or you can live in second world country and despite not developed infrastructure and education still become rich (I've seen many people do that)

I resonated with the second point as I should have been at a better paid role doing something I absolutely love right now but unfortunately Covid has pushed that back at least a year. I work temporarily as a security guard which I don't see as a bad job. But its a job that will teach me to be assertive, to give people orders when needed, enhances my interpersonal skills etc.
I have been worried about being able to afford my rent and tuition for my masters course that I am currently on instead of the grad scheme, but thanks to some money management and a few earlier payments of rent (where most of my money goes) I don't feel I need to get a second job even though I was seriously considering it, I don't have many expenses as a student living wise as the rent covers all bills I feel I will be okay as I found myself panicking about being able to afford it but when I calmed myself down and looked at my income and expenses I realised I am way ahead in rent payments for my accommodation and if I reduce my food bills by just a little I will be okay.
I have no succumb to the trap of working two jobs alongside my masters and I intend to stay in the position I am in. Hopefully next year (Covid dependant) I will be able to go onto the grad scheme that is better paid and is doing something I absolutely love!
All of that was my choice to make and I am so glad I have decided not to take on a second job!

Staying poor is not a choice, you could bust your ass work a million jobs while everybody else had babies and govt programs. If you are in the wrong environment wrong friends and not given an opportunity to be exposed to better friends and better environment you can end up poor with all talent and all the skills. I am prime example of that. You think going to cheaper housing would allow you to save money to move up. But you end up not being to save money to move out much less move up because you can't have a job longer than 6 months. And you cant accumulate any money!!! Forget up it have have beg, cried, sued, worked, came up with a million ralph amd norton schemes, and nothing. I am just moving out regardless of where i end up.
