you don't need a capo to get up to f tuning. this is why we have tuning pegs , in the main solo it would be almost impossible to do any of the bending parts with a capo , like at the beginning of the main solo, he slides in to e on the d string on the ninth fret. he then hits the 7th fret on the g string and bends the 9th fret in to the eleventh fret which is a full step bend. try that with a capo
@@xXAscendingPhoenixXx true yeah, but that's partly because it destroys the quality so much, and it makes James vocals sound way too deep. F tuning to d tuning sounds alright
I'm pretty sure it is my friend. Half step up from E is F. A to A#, D to D#, G to G#, B to C, e to F. I think what you're thinking is the open F tuning so actually you're kinda right.
Once Upon a Time I Tune My Guitar in F Standard, but It doesn't Break and The Strings too, but The High Notes On The first 3 Strings Made me scare because I Was thinking they would brake, so I Will Buy a Baritone Guitar to Tune F Tunnig but an Octave Lower
You’d have to remove reverb to be kill’em all... and fun fact... A lot of songs on Ride the lightning are tuned 448hz (including this), so higher than E, so higher than Kill’em all
Is this technically f. If all he did was pitch shift the original a half step up then it would a quarter step up from f because the original album was sped up a quarter tone before release
@@topsecret1837 Expression has nothing to do with C minor. The original song is in A minor (or B minor for the intro and outro), and E standard tuning. A half step up makes this in Bb minor for most of the song, an C minor for the intro and outro. But it's still F tuning like the title says. The guitar tuning doesn't tell you what key a song is in, it tells you what the strings are tuned to. (I forgot that there's a section in what I think is E minor before the outro, which would be F minor in this version) Before making stupid comments, go learn how a guitar works
@@topsecret1837 Plenty of bands from that period were "nailing" classical expression much more effectively than metallica. Megadeth's debut album literally opens with a play on Bach...
When the verse riff starts, damn that hit me in the feels.
Makes me wish that F tuning was common. E gets boring after a while.
Alexander Adrian Vargas this is why we have capos.

Vishal Nagaraj Well I bet it must now be your most hated meme.
what I think, why do people limit themselves so often by not trying other things. So few videos of people actually tune to a higher key.
@@maxmustardman298 probable cause their vocals cant handle it and theyd usually need an entirely new set up for their guitars
This song takes me away to places I've never been. I love it.
Kinda sounds sadder and more emotional... like all half steps
No like kinda ur goodbyes when u know ur not making it out alive
Especially the intro
For some amazing reason, F Tuning really works for a lot of Metallica songs!
Especially this one.
*As well as The Call Of Kthulu*
OutCasts United phantom lords breakdown sounds brill as well
+Andrew Hartmann
Different tunings work well with metallica songs because they are all very well written.
Agreed! They may start to take .... NOTE of what we say about that.
@@shamicentertainment1262 They don't sound good in low tunings like C standard or B. Way too muddy in my opinion

Love 80s metal, got the cassette when it was released😊❤
When u get bored with the original tuning this makes it even better
This tuning in this song is the best above any other
omg this one is beautiful
Now the final solo unleashes its powerful feeling

3:56 this breakdown 😍
How FTB would be if it was a movie soundtrack.
Seriously, I don't get why all songs featured in a movie end up sounding a half step sharper.
Maybe copyright?
You're right by the way, some songs in the movies are pitch shifted
That doesn't explain official licensed songs, in that case there's no copyright issue at all...
Dude, sweet stuff you got here, James' voice sounds really unique in F, it's a voice that really should belong to a today band, great post dude.
agreed 100%
haha james voice haha like 17` years

This is great lol, I was playing the bass line on my tuba, but couldn’t find the right key, but here it is!
Oh by the way thank you Jake for these Metallica vids man I love listening to these versions a lot so thank you man 👍🏼👍🏼
The outro hits harder
This song is so great
That intro was beautiful
I think this is even more beautiful than the original
ok man its okay and amazing sound

play this one and the d tuning one together and you get a really weird sound.
actually pretty cool
I love this tuning but it scares me to tune to it 😂😂
use a capo
Amazing ❤
Ride the Lightning is a Pal pitch album, didn’t know why they didn’t make this song pal pitch
I like this tuning but I also like having all the strings on my guitar
And I know I can use a capo but Yano 😂
that acoustic tho
if kill em all had a number four ballad
Can you maybe make a video of the whole ride the lightning album with f tuning?
This sounds more like 1984 James than 1984 James

it sounds so happy of a song! I like it
It sounds way more fucking depressing if you ask me.. Something that should be played at a funeral, but minus the heavy parts
+John Burns Even the heavy parts should be played if it was my funeral.
+John Burns Way more depressing indeed
@@HeavyMetalNerd fuck yeah bro
@@TheLarryburns84 nah id class it as melancholic and very powerful rather than depressing
you only raise one half step to High F yeah i understand now
I had to do a double take on the intro, this fucking killed me in a good way.
Cool

sorry for my enligsh it´s not that good, but still it´s not F tuning

yeah this is is maybe almost quarter step up from F so nearby F#
This is technically C minor given the different key and all..
And? Still F tuning

Is this correct F Tuning or 1/4 step above F?
Sounds like half a step up from E, so yes, true F.
Coltallic they recorded this whole album a fourth step above e
metallica guitarist I know that, that's why i'm asking if this is up half a step or just a quarter step from the original recording.
