Years of Bill Burr promos haven’t gotten me to try MeUndies, but your vid might ... 2 questions: 1. Can you do a video showing how to attach an umbrella to your pack so you can use your trekking poles - or does it just make more sense to put one pole away when you’re umbrella-ing? 2. What do people do who wear glasses? Two sets of prescription glasses, one with shading, or do they use those over-glasses you see in the pharmacies?
Couldn't recommend the boxers enough. Haven't found a functional way to attach my umbrella to my backpack. I just put one of my trekking poles away when using my umbrella. Wish I could give you some good info about the glasses but I have no experience in that field. Happy trails my friend 🙌
Might I suggest some "transitions lenses" which will cut down on the number of frames you bring with you. They have come a long way since they were invented. They changed from clear to tinted pretty much instantly.
The problem with transitional lenses is that going from sunny exposed trail to shaded trail is that they don't transition back to clear fast enough, maybe 20 minutes, so I just wear clip on's, flip ups would be perfect if you can find them, atb!
Hey Iron. Got the Ghost Whisperer Jacket on your recommendation and it's been incredible. Valuable video here. I like many hikers would buy various pieces of gear only to later trade them out for something better. Lots of wasted money and a ton of gear you don't use cluttering up your life (one guy I know has a gear room just for gear). Going to try and sell my old gear and save up for that fleece, hiking shirt and umbrella in that order. Thanks man

Hi thanks for the video and have some questions! The Columbia Silver Ridge Shirt is always worn? And all other layers are taken off when the weather is warmer? And then when the weather gets cooler, you put on the Marmot Hooded Fleece; and if you need even more warmth you put on the Ghost Whisperer Down? Just curious why you had to get the Outdoor Research cape; can’t you just use the hood from the Marmot fleece to cover up the ears and neck areas? And last question about the Smartwool Baselayer. Is that the 150 or is it a higher build/thickness?
You are very welcome! The Columbia Silver Ridge is always my base layer when the weather is warmer. You got it. Usually, when I'm wearing my Outdoor Research Cape it's hot out and I don't want to wear anything else besides my Columbia shirt. Smartwool is 150. Happy Trails🙌

@@imapisces1 of course! I wear trail runners over boots because they are far more comfortable. They dry out much faster once wet & they are highly breathable. Not eating in your tent is your safest bet. If I'm backpacking in an area where I can properly burry my #2 (following L.N.T. principles) I do. I pack any used T.P. out in a ziplock bag. More good info about that here lnt.org/why/7-principles/dispose-of-waste-properly/ Areas of deep snow pack where I can't dig down to dirt I pack everything out in a blue bag. Hope that helps. I've never heard of Me Undies until now. I found some "A Pair of Thieves" brand "ultralight" boxer briefs at Target that look very similar in design coincidentally. I haven't tried wearing a single pair for a week without washing, but so far so good. Since Marmot doesn't have a pull-over quarter zip hoodie anymore, what do you recommend for that thin extra layer? I'm hilariously using a cotton hoodie from Zunzies. It's a tad bulky, but I haven't found something to replace it. It's gotta be BLACK.
Leiðulfr Link Check out Hanes cool-mesh lightweight boxer briefs (or something like that) usually can find them in packs of three at department stores for about $16-17. They’re super light, breath well, and most importantly for me the legs don’t ride up. Also have a 9” inseam which helps me avoid chaffing. I’d always hated boxer briefs until I tried these. Pair of Thieves are nice, but they’re expensive and in my experience like to bunch up

not true any longer. I have Colombias Caldorado Outdry Ultralight jacket in an extralarge that weighs 6.7 ounces and it NEVER has wetted out even in all-day heavy rains along the AT. In all the years and dozens of rain jackets I have tried the Outdry jacket is the only one never, ever to wet out. What I dont understand is why no one such as yourself ever talks about the Outdry ultralight shells?!?!?!?

Great tips Iron. I do a lot of desert hiking and backpacking here in Southern California. I like the umbrella idea for shade. I would like to see how you use it. I assume you attach it to your pack some how. Do you have any videos showing this?
Hello Iron, greetings from Europe. My ultralight backpacking setup is very similar to yours with one exception: I never goes out hiking without something like this th-cam.com/video/8h_9RgeZ6Mk/w-d-xo.html That is just a perfect piece of gear and it's not well enough presented in that video. It has ventilation on a chest and under the arms which you can regulate. Also it has thermal foil on inside which is another waterproof layer, so my expirience is no matter how heavy rain or snow is I'm always 100% dry if I have good boots. It's not super light (slightly less than 1lb), but it is light for what it does, and with that in mind you can make additional compromises with your layers bellow because it has excellent thermal isolation. Great inexpensive rain and snow protection.
You fell hard down the hole of consumerism. Be free, spend your life down the trail. You need practically none of this. It's just some ego thing to be cooler than the next punter by being lighter. What an insanity.

why did you go with the longer six moon umbrella vs. the compact version? Thanks!
For ease of use. The weight savings isn't worth it to me to go with the compact version.
