Thanks :) ... I really should be using hot water more often, and ice to cool acid more often ... thanks for checking out the video. And giving me some helpful pointers. And yes, I still had some acid pulling gold back into solution causing issues for me this time. I am (hopefully) getting better each time.
I’d Definitely recommend you denox your nitric wether it’s from boiling until nitric is spend (while adding hcl to keep it from turning to syrup) using urea, or even better, sulphamic acid which will help precipitate any lead once solution cools prior to filtering. Always boil your gold after dropping with fresh HCL until all color is gone, using a stannous test to verify you aren’t getting any in solution due to excess nitric (or chlorine if using tap water to rinse). Thanks for the upload!
It is true I don't always denox. When I do, I use urea. Even when I do remember to do it, I don't always show it... like I did not in my most recent video. I don't always remember to record that step when I am out refining. Good advice on the HCl boil too. Thank you for watching. And your very helpful comments. It is much appreciated :)
Hello Anthony, I think that is your name. I just found your channel, and I have been binge watching a bunch of your videos for about 4 hours now. I'm a fellow scrapper hobbiest, and gold bug. I've collected a ton of gold recovery items over the past decade, I have a lot, but I haven't taken the step of refining. Maybe some day. It's a fun and enjoyable hobby. Anyway, I've enjoyed your videos and content very much. Please keep on doing what you are doing. I also just subscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I have moments where I fail hard, and I question if the hours it takes for me to get a video planned, recorded, and edited is worth the lost hours with family. It is meaningful to hear that the content is fun to watch. That said, what would you like to see more of :) ?? I do take requests. With the snow getting deeper outside, my videos slow down over the winter. Propane costs go up, and cold is hard to work in... Also, if I could offer some unsolicited advice about getting into the hobby of gold refining... know the risks. I have had a few scary moments where acid reactions ran away and I had to clean up spills or I had large amounts of nitrogen dioxide fumes cloud up and force me out of the area... Just know what you are getting into. Buy things that will help you do things safe. And feel free to ask me as well as other hobbyists questions. I am not a pro. I just try really hard to be safe and not lose my investments.
@@badideametals I enjoy watching the refining videos. I know they can be repetitive sometime, but I still like them. Have you ever tried to get the silver out of your solutions? The thing I like the most though are the odd and old scraps where people scrap out items that are uncommon. You seem to have had quite a few of those. That one load you got from that garbage collector with all of the vintage computers was a once in a lifetime find. Wait til it warms up a bit. It's no fun working outside during the winter.
@@williammiller7362 I have a few things I am saving for a warmer day… some rare scrap that I actually signed an agreement that the waste would be destroyed and not resold. Someday I will get to those. As for silver, I get it out of solution. Most of what I do does not contain much silver. Old boards with solder is the most likely scrap I refine to have silver in it. I don’t show it since I hold my liquid waste from project to project and process later. I actually still think I do it wrong anyway. Someday, I will show how I do it and no doubt I will be trained how to do it better :)
That is a good catch. I did have to de-nox with sulfamic in one of my reactions ... I don't remember if this was one of them or not. But yes, there are times I have just a little too much nitric still in solution.
Just seeing your videos for the first time, going to have to watch more
Hey thanks :)
Very cool!! So you got just a bit under 9/10th oz of .999 gold. Thanks for the vid.
11: 50 always hot water helps in many ways 14:20 if there is hcl active or use concentrated hno it may dissolve gold. . Nice video !!

If you get red fumes when dropping the SMB in (8:45), your nitric wasn't neutralized.

You should have melted it all into shot and then done a nitric bath to remove base metals before going to aqua regia
