"i do solemnly swear that i will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that i will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
every time you re-enlist you give this oath. i did this at the st louis arch my first time, in an aircraft over saudi my second time, on a flightline in spain my third time, and on the beach in guam my fourth time. but as a veteran my oath never expires.

Much respect fumesniff! Singing praises to our military and support staffs.
“I, ....., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
(I took the Civil Service Oath, following in the footsteps of my father, but he was a decorated WWII Veteran as well, and my daughter took the same oath in her service to the government.)
My daughter spent her 4 years in high school in the marching band, went to two colleges past high school graduation, played in both college's bands. That is a LOT of dedication to marching, maneuvering and simultaneous playing for these youth! And they are very serious about it.

Marching bands are deadly serious in Texas. The high schools start practicing in July. They perform at every halftime, and after football season ends, competition marching season begins. Both of my daughters were band weenies and all three grandkids.

But the joy of a show coming together on the field with screaming fans is amazing. Im glad your enjoying the shows. Howdy from Texas. Still Married 34 years.

Marching bands are 2 different styles. Military or show. Ohio State ( in my opinion) is the greatest show band out there. Texas A&M is the best military band. 2 totally different ways of performing, both stellar and a joy to watch. Son in law and his family are all Aggies and he was a member of the corp for 2 years before moving.

A little background…Texas A & M was Texas Agricultural and Mechanical… now abbreviated to A & M. Texas A&M remained a primarily all-male military institution with mandatory membership in the Cadet Corps until 1964, when the school began admitting women. In 1965 Corps membership became voluntary for students. The Corps first incorporated female members in the fall of 1974. And yes, those cadets were seniors and being sworn in to the military.

  • @UncleBuckRodgers
    @UncleBuckRodgers 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Gig 'em Aggies! 👍 I may be wrong, but I believe the corp. of cadets are all in what is called the ROTC program. Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a program where students are helped financially by the US military branches, who also give them training as part of their college education. In exchange they are then enlisted as officers for a service commitment in the US military, upon their college graduation. I think that's how it works. Anyway, pretty sure that was them taking their oath to commitment for the military. The "A&M" in Texas A&M University stands for Agricultural and Mechanical. Rich history behind the school. That big "T" stands for "Troy" BTW

My grandfather went to Texas A&M when he was 16. His mother falsified his birth certificate so he could go as he had graduated high school early. When he graduated, he served in the U.S. Army in Brazil designing radio communications. He later worked for General Dynamics.
More to the point of the video, marching band is so much fun. There are two methods of marching: military and corps style. A& M does military. I have always marched corps (pronounced "core") style. It makes for a much smoother sound. For contrast, you should watch a University of North Texas Green Brigade halftime show. They have a TH-cam channel.

ROTC stands for Reserve Officer's Training Corps. Starts in high school, go through college and then enter active duty as Officers in US Navy, US Airforce, US Army, US Space Force and US Marines. The Coast Guard has similar program called College Student Pre-Commision.

I believe he said that they are Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps.) ROTC is available at many universities. The cadets are students who in addition to their normal studies, have classes in military related subjects. During summer breaks they spend some time with active duty units for further training. Most important it is a way to train those who will become officers without having to go to one of the military academies.

I'm a Texan through & through, but Ohio State has the best marching band.
If you like the band "Rush", this was a tribute to Neil Peart (greatest drummer of all time) after he died. You have to know them to understand everything (they have a song called YYZ, and one called "2112", Neil took time off to ride his motorcycle all over the place, etc.). th-cam.com/video/UTRluWPw08M/w-d-xo.html
If you have never heard Rush... th-cam.com/video/uJz049s4Pbg/w-d-xo.html You'll thank me! Of course it's my opinion but they're the greatest band ever & have so many epic songs. My favorite musicians with the best lyrics.

I'm a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, my son graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and my son-in-law's brother from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. I have associations with a number of other long-established large universities. My point is, I am well acquainted with college traditions, the greatest of which is the annual Army-Navy football game every December. I have three daughters, and they all attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The two eldest are graduates, the youngest transferred and graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio. There is no institution like Texas A&M in College Station, and it's not possible to explain why, it has to be experienced. Texas A&M is all about positivity. To give you just a taste, consider this--Aggies never lose--they may run out of time or may be outscored--but Aggies never, ever lose. Those in the video taking the oath are seniors in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets that are graduating and are to be commissioned as officers in the various military services. Texas A&M is one of just a few universities that have Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) for every military service. I have literally been around the world, I've been to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, to Bethlehem, the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, the Tomb of John the Baptist in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, I've stood on Mount Nebo looking over the entire Jordan River valley from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea, to the Mausoleum of Salahadin, and many times at Arlington National Cemetery--and they were all deeply meaningful experiences. But, there's no experience like attending a home football game at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas--it's mind-blowing and life-altering.

My nephew just tried out for the marching band at my alma mater and made it although not for his preferred instrument (he plays various drums along with others). They chose him for cymbals so he'll get to show lots of personality while doing choreography. Hopefully, if one of the drum positions opens up, he can switch. Since the university represented so much more in later days they dropped those names and now A&M doesn’t stand for anything. I hope this helps! Love y’all! The Band is made up of Cadets from any of the branches. the most noticeable are the Army Branch with there Cavalry Boots and riding pants.

The Oath that Carol could not hear was the Oath that all members of the federal government take when we are hired/signed into service for our country. "I do solemnly swear to (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This is something that everyone who takes this oath, regardless of position is someone who truly loves our country and supports until we die. Take the oath once, you are bound by your love for your country forever. I only needed to say it once. My heart and my allegiance belong to my country. PS: I am not military, but I do work for a government agency that works to support our great American heroes.

Incredible amount of misinformation about the Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets in the comments. I will address a few for those who are interested. Texas A&M has about 60,000 students, of which about 2,200 are in the Corps of Cadets (ROTC program). It was once an all-male, all-military style school. The band has about 320 - 380 members. As Cadets, they live a military lifestyle and must be in uniform when they go to class. They all take some military courses in their selected service. There is no military commitment and about 40% will be commissioned as officers into one of the military branches. Whatever branch they are in, their uniforms are the same except for patches on specific uniforms. In this video they are wearing "Alfas" so no branch info is shown. Seniors wear boots and riding-style pants. Each halftime show is unique for both home and away games. Oath-taking happens multiple times per year. This one took place at halftime, but that is not the norm and most were not seniors. The "T" is for Texas, not "Troy," as one commenter said. I have 3 kids who are and were in the Aggie Band, Class of '20, '25, and '26. It's an amazing organization and a challenging and unique way to go through college.
