My grandparents lived right down the street, 41st and Madison When I was a pup in the 70's Grandpa and I would go there to get lumber and supplies You brought back a lot of great memories
Mark Schenher I appreciate you taking the time to leave that comment and thank you for watching I’m glad I can stir up some old memories for you hope to see more comments from you soon
I was born at Methodist Hospital in downtown Gary in 1958. We moved from downtown Gary to Glen Park in 1960. We moved out of Gary in 1972. I recognized a bit of the area when you were on Ridge Road. It use to be such a beautiful city when I was a child. I went to Franklin Elementary School.
Janice Roebuck what high school did you go to? I know my father and 2 brothers graduated from different high schools. My dad was class of 71 at Westside High. My mother lived in Gary but went to Andrean High School class of 74. Her house was one of the, I think 9 houses the power company blew up in. 69'
So sad that Gary looks like this now. My grandparents came her after leaving the old countries. They worked in the mills, raised my parents that attended schools in Gary. My fathers 2 out of 3 residences are still standing and lived in. Unfortunately my moms house was one of the houses that exploded in 1969 (?) from a power company mistake. The land is now occupied by a garage built by the neighbor. I remember driving through Gary to go to my grandparents house and my father being so upset by what he saw as we drove down the street. I'll have to show him these videos. You gained a sub here. Keep,up the great videos.
Dukey Doo the Boxer Dog I am so upset that I just now seeing this I apologize for not seeing this comment earlier I don’t know why it did not show me this until now but I apologize for not seeing this until just now thank you so much for taking the time to do that and welcome to the page take you for your subscription
The Steel City Storm ill be going to Gary next week. Was hoping to find local urban explores in Gary to give us a tour if that's cool, maybe a collaboration?
We are supposed to be having a Good Exploring Weekend and Maybe we can do that. Just subscribed to your channel and a collaboration sounds cool have not done one yet with any other explorers besides my brother and the social wreck but sure sounds fun. We can do a tour of the Badlands if you want but your buying lunch ! lol
PM so we can talk more. I'm going with Exploring with CF and he only been to Gilroy Stadium. Collaboration is fun, great way to grow channel and network.
We use to buy our materials there Every morning in the 70s and 80s. I worked at Star Construction Company right down the street I have a lot of memories there.
Thank you for sharing those memories I remembered also as a kid they were cool people it would give us Halloween candy. The thing that I really remember about this explore is that feel it had like everybody just packed up and left and left everything behind thank you Bruce for your memory I enjoyed reading that
Just went to the lumber yard today. Completely cleaned out and the building with the sign is now caving in. You also can't drive through it due to a new fence that was put up.
Lisa Smith Thank you so much for that I really appreciate it I apologize I am just now seeing your comment for some reason thank you for taking the time to leave it and I will be safe out there it’s dangerous very much so
I used to go to that lumberyard too, it's down the street from the Sugar Bowl on the corner of 41st Avenue and Madison street, it was a nice business, it's disgusting to see it in such horribly bad shape today.
Wow, I saw the 2nd video you did on this place with some friends. To go solo there was a little scary. Talk about the expression “south of the tracks”. Damn at about the 8 minute mark. . . Doing some research this place operated 1913 to 1996. . . 23 years it’s been decaying. . . Such a shame. . To only see pics while this place was in operation! Thanks for sharing
I laughed out loud when you drove by the "The Glen." That place was a porn theater when I left Gary in '87. The funny thing is, I remember when it was a legitimate, first run movie house in the late '60s and early '70s. Great video, Storm!
Thank You Anton I went to see eat my dust and pippy ;longstocking then it turning into the porn theatre that drugstore on broadway is where I used to score my Circus magazines of rock back in those days too

With all the molded clothes looks more like a deserted salvation army instead of a deserted hardware and lumber company.
