Once these places close they should have days where they let people come salvage items they want for free. Too much waste. Desks, books, tables and chairs people might want, even the old chalk boards and lockers...better than going into the ground.

thank you!!! this is my old middle school, I had my graduation in that gym, countless dances in that gym, that meeting area was called "the surge" and that's where we would have school dances
I thought the surge was only west side high ,one going the back doors where you can come in and go to your left to the auditorium into your right to the gym where the concerts were

gary made steel. when that production went away, it died a slow withering painful death. i remember as a kid going on roadtrips to chicago from detriot to visit family and we got gas here. it was rough then. coming from the d thats saying something rob. have a nice day man.

One time i won a game of dodgeball against 20 other students by myself in that gym

I love the architecture of schools .I had pleasure of attending a elementary and middle school that were built during the late 40s early 50s .They are still in use today although addition have been added .The architecture is fabulous . I went to each in the early 70s and so they haven't been torn down but still stand as a testiment of time .
Forgive if I don't quite get all the words I want to say into a senece.I suffered severe brain trama during a sexual assult.So writing seneces is hard me but I have to let you know how I enjoy your show.Stacy.

I overheard my 5 year old daughter playing with her friend. She said "I'm going to be a splorer (explorer) and visit 'bandonded places" her friend said "what's that?!" To which my daughter replied "you just go to places people don't want to go anymore and hang up the phones for them" hahaha! I think she has watched a few of your videos with me!

We had an area like that at Portage High School. Was called the commons. Still up & running.

Great upload as always brother. We just redid this school sunday. This school was segregated and two separate schools as you can tell by the two end buildings. But in the late 60s early 70s built the center section to connect them together as 1 big school. It's my favorite school explore in our Beautiful Gary Indiana. That old gym was the original only for white students. Crazy ugly ugly times back then. Glad you got it bro before iit's gone. Cant wait til you come back out! Great Explore! 🤘😎🤘

Good video! I enjoy your videos always. Gary is a shell of its former self. I know people have looted some abandoned buildings for its fine woodwork. There are early videos from 2006 or 2008 showing this but they maybe taken down.

Maryse Bowen @Midwest Flesh May know or his Brother. They love Gary and had attended school in Gary. I can answer that the City of Gary has lost over half of their population since the 1960’s. Hammond most likely has a larger population. Gary is very interesting despite its abandonment. You can be in a urban setting and a rural setting and still be in Gary.

I really enjoy the way Rob ( rnk all day) films these locations! I never get motion sickness or dizzy because he is so good with the camera! In this one the theater segment, shows his talent for filming, I watch hundreds of these videos and no one does it as good as Rob does! I wish more Urbex explorers could learn his technique ! The theater was so amazing, it is tragic to see what desperate people do to a building, scarpers desperate to make a few bucks, its sad!!
I wish I could afford to buy some of the places you find. I have a ga'billion ideas going through my head.

My husband taught in Gary until three years ago. They are closing them down for many reasons, asbestos, water damage, school population down and no money for the school system. A lot of the school damage is from their maintenance men who were scrapping to pay school bills. The older schools were beautiful. But it now is very dangerous to go into them. Your big fluid spot was blood from a body dumped there last year. A lot of scary things go on in those abandoned schools.
The smaller gym we called the Little Gym it’s where we had physical Ed class we also had our lunch room dances there. I graduated from there in 2002.
This was my school. That first area is where we gathered after eating lunch! It was a very cool spot. The other place was an additional gym. It really was sad to see the vandalism. Thank you for this.

We had a radio station at my school. No one listened to it, lol.
I think it is actually pretty cheap and easy to set up a station.
I also drive by it everyday , it was cool you showed us the inside. I was born in Gary in 1970 but moved soon after.

4:01 I'm pretty sure the team name didn't have anything to do with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts were only in Indiana since the 1980s. The school is a lot older than that.
That room you thought was a radio show room might have been an office or something to do with the computer lab near. Maybe a place to put servers or something.

great explore Robb, crazy though,, it boggles my mind why they don't take all those reading materials and books and pictures of the students and stuff,, on to where they're moving too ,,ya know ?,, you would think they'd want to keep that stuff,,,,?
I think it usually comes down to the fact that nothing is getting moved out that people writing the checks don't care about. Also, I think in a lot of cases, esp. With schools, teachers and volunteers probably Have went back and salvaged lots of stuff. But there is always little (lotta) bits that just don't make it.
There was a pretty old church here that got torn down several years ago.. and you would not believe the stuff they left behind.. lots of good usable items. Capitalism = wasteful i.m.o.

The Indianapolis Colts' mascot followed them there from Baltimore when they moved in the 80s or 90s. Colts is a reference to the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. Thanks for the vid!

I know there has to be financially struggling school systems that could rehab a lot of supplies such as the desks. chairs, chalkboards, microscopes, & books that could be utilized by these schools-----be it elementary, middle or high school. Could even be used in recreational organizations for preteens etc. Some use should be made regarding the architecture that in some cases would take thousands to replicate today. Just as. in some abandoned homes I've seen----what a waste!

The indianapolis colts were The baltimore Colts till 1983 when they moved to indiana. The GYM looks 70's to me. But anyway the new XFL I hope is major competition to the NFL.

That's too bad.. they can be really fun, educational, and (good)scary all in one! What's stopping you? Don't feel you should answer me necessarily, but examine the question. If you find explorations fascinating, you should figure out what's stopping you and eliminate it, so you can get out there and do it!
I’m worried about being caught (which happened twice, 2 different occasions years ago!), I’m afraid of falling through the flooring (which would be my luck), or finding things that shouldn’t be in there (squatters, prostitution, drugs, dead people.)
@@ashleygilliland4331 all of those things are part of why I explore everywhere. I sometimes want to risk injury, I definitely enjoy the feeling of being sneaky ( although I don't go anywhere illegally so it's not really sneaky I suppose) , and I don't always enjoy it, but it can be good to run into other people there. Especially if they are doing something wrong, I'll edumacate 'em darn quick!
No there were no programs thats the study hall you had to shut up and study anything you wanted, you couldn't so much as whisper and you could literally just show up sit down and study, i used to read there , anything i could find, it was a free pass for people skipping class

Dang, they must have put a lot of money into that school. The middle school I attended in Saint Bernard Parish didn’t have a gym, no actual basketball court and the auditorium was the cafeteria. Katrina later destroyed it.

Dunbar Pulaski they must have started that with a elementary school mixed with a middle school cuz it used to be just Pulaski years ago, and Duncan was the elementary school on 21st across from Delaney projects with Dunbar right behind it going north another elementary School

It's sad seeing a place that was full of vibrant kids learning , totally ruined. ..So many towns like this all over this country with totally abandoned neighborhoods with schools like this and so many other ruined buildings, it's like where is everyone ? Is the inner town's and cities of this country this bad? It seems they all were once such vibrant towns.
The city could tear down the school and keep the gym as a local recreation centre. Wonder why vandals left the auditorium alone? Great explore!

I wished I was back home to see my old school before they torn it down and made another one... back in Ohio called TJ
I will NEVER understand why a City won't let larger buildings that most likely no one will buy... not be handed over to a non-profit to create low-income/ no-income housing apartments. I am sure between filing for grants from the Federal and State governments along with doing a donation drives from the city and small surrounding towns... they could more than earn enough to change the building into apartments and community using space. This would allow for all kinds of program directors and Social Workers to go directly to those locations and help those struggling out. Rather it be to help each one apply for programs they never knew about to helping those that can work, find a fitting job or to get back into schools. If each large or decent sized city did this, the homelessness issue would be a lot less not to mention people wouldn't move to the very few areas that have the setup to offer this type of stuff. That is why some cities don't want to do this type of thing because they fear homeless from everywhere in the U.S. will head to their city for the help which will put too much strain on the cities resources and eventually they would have to shut it all down. In any case, I say those buildings would be perfect and a lot less wasted.

Yeah we had 2 gyms one was for games the other was for practice, if you were in the little gym you got to have recess , but the big gym was where all the fun games was for gym class like dodgeball
