The only reason I would put the last hope near the top of the list is because it actually feels like your "Traversing the Stars" instead of only being on underdeveloped planets with like a space station dotted in
Sadly, all the natural planets are so unimaginative, they just feel like different regions on one continent. Even a single region in Pokemon has landscapes more interesting than Aeos, Lemuris, and Roak combined.
I remember playing as Reimi back in the day and absolutely destroyed everything. The range meant that I could keep all my bonuses without worrying about losing them during fights.
This game was really fun! Story and characters were just good but the gameplay and the planets you actually get to travel to make it an overall great game imo

This is mostly a tangent but I got momentarily confused seeing "Crymachina" in the intro segment. Mostly due to a combination of it just recently releasing, I'm actually playing it as I'm typing this up, and the fact that it's pretty far in the niche side. Then I saw the video was uploaded 5 hours prior. Here I was just clicking through random videos for the channel through the side recommendations. Didn't think I'd suddenly catch a fresh video that way so it caught me off guard. Anyway, "The Last Hope". I remember enjoying the game for what it was but never finished it. I recall hitting a wall somewhere near the end where everything just either had too much health or I wasn't doing enough damage. It wasn't hard, just battles ended up taking forever and I just lost interest. Then again, this was over a decade ago so younger me didn't know what they were doing, especially when it came to synthesizing good equipment. I played primarily as Edge while having Meracle, Reimi, and I think Arumat as AI teammates. I've been considering jumping back in but since I'm neck deep in trophy hunting now, yea-no. I'd rather spend that 500+ hours on other games instead.

Bachus and Arumat are great party members, main downside to them is that their A.I mostly stands during battle, Arumat also spam spells if they aren’t off. Myuria is my fav spell unit but useless while battling the post game Angels, since her A.I start attacking from long range when you manually turn off all her spells and they’ll target her instantly. Sarah is unique because she’ll never attack if all her attack spells are off. For me, best party is Sarah, Edge, Remi and Meracle. Awesome video by the way
And Reimi is why they always nerf or derp the A.I of long range dps in games like this. I remember as a kid just watching the A.I juggle a post game boss in the air for the whole fight with just crimson squall and what was the other move sparrow something? I'm not complaining I'm just saying maybe she should have been the MC over stock ecchi manga protag Edge.
Weird season to be talking about Star Ocean 4 but I'll take it! I LOVED Star Ocean 4, it wore its JRPG status unabashedly on its sleeve. The waifus of SO4 were straight out of a fucking textbook. I always run Edge, Reimi, Meracle and Myuria for obvious reasons.
Still to this day, i never see someone play Bacchus as i do. You do the side Slide move with him and while sliding you attack with his normal attack in long range. I killed everything with him without ever taking damage. Extremely easy to play as you can imagine. So Bacchus ist god tier squared (although very ugly our MountainDewBot)
huh? I still think SO 3 is better because is the whole package. Of course this was before playing SO 2 R which might be the best game in the series now. Combat is not everything...ok it is but other stuff adds up.
Myuria might not be the best healer, but back on 360 I used her and cleared the extra dungeon gabriel/queen AND finished it on chaos mode. so yeah, she does the job good enough. Since you will blindside with Edge 24/7, you are looking for more damage anyway 90% of the time. My team was: Edge, Reimi,Bacchus and Myuria - black hole with Bacchus never let me down!
Black hole sphere is an amazing crowd control/mob killer ability and it lasts for a good bit too. It’s a bit of a shame that he’s not very good in a 1v1 scenario. Granted, he’s not unviable in those situations but he’s definitely not your first choice.

I do not have a ps4/5 so never got to try Integrity and Faithlessness. Second Story was my first venture into Star Ocean and it was absolutely amazing. Though Last Hope is definitely my favourite; the combat + Reimi makes me giddy every time replaying it.
This is why Reimi is one of the best female character ever. I think she's aside with Rena (SO2) and Maria (SO3). This is why I play her forever because her combat is the best, love her bow arrow attack, and her personality. The rest, I mostly don't care but I do find Arumat and Sarah okay. I can't hate Lymle like she's just adorable. Faize like he's good but his story is just sad like he lost his own people and the person he had feelings with too. I won't spoiled much about Faize at the end since I know people haven't play this yet.
Faize is good purely because if you always keep him in your party you can get an instantly powerful Arumat with a maxed burst beat that can spam nether strike for an endless burst mode and destroy everything pre postgame

How far you got into this game dude? I can imagine you got through at least to the first postgame dungeon. More importantly, yeah, I can mostly agree with you. I think Lymle can be more useful with her mindflare ability, (at the cost of more mp) and her insane AOE spells/moves.
I had to take a hiatus from this game after putting 500+ hours into my first playthrough. I'm currently struggling in the wandering dungeon trying to collect the last few randomly dropped weapons and defeat the Ethereal Queen for the first time. I'm going for the platinum on the PS3 version. And I agree with everyone saying Reimi is OP and breaks the game. God, I love her lol

Faize my favorite, dodging behind enemies with his sword is so nice T_T I remember pouring hours into the arena with him. (Reimi and Meracle are the most fun to play as once Faize is gone, iirc on NG+ you could "keep" Faize over Arumat, this game sadly never interested me enough for a 2nd playthrough 😂)

I would put Meracle ahead of Reimi. Reimi will eventually overtake Meracle, but not until later in the game. Getting Meracle's weapon from the Coliseum makes the rest of the game trivial and can be done quickly. This game is insanely broken. Divine Force is even more broken than Last Hope, believe it or not. 😂

Star Ocean is a series that makes me flip flop with maybe Namco was right taking away control from Yoshiharu Gotanda and when his crazy ideas work makes me wish we got the true vision of Tale Phantasia.
A list that I actually don't agree with for once. Faize is the worst easily. Lymle is low, but definitely a tier above Faize. Edge, Sarah, Myuria, and Reimi are all mid. The ai really doesnt matter since the ai is bad with everyone. Sarah doesnt have access to fast cast so she is one of the weaker healers. She is more of a buff bot that can heal on the side. Edge has low damage output, most of his specials are not easily spammable like Meracle or Arumat. He is basically what Faize should have been. Reimi is the top of mid or bottom of top tier(I personally think she is kind of mid late game since her damage output isnt that great). Myuria is probably the best healer that can be a sub dps. Technically every healer can use the highest level heal, but Myuria has fast cast. On top of that, she has one of the best steal set ups for end game clay farming which pairs with Arumat to make the best end game gear. For end game utility, you could honestly put her in top just because of how much easier she makes the game. Bachus has a stun that works on bosses and is easy to pull off(dash and shoot). I'd say he and Reimi are around the same level, but I'd say he is higher because he can break the game by stun locking bosses. Only downsides to him are his recovery options are bad(he can be stun locked with knock downs) and if you are playing on the original 360 version, his black hole sphere spam can lock up your game. God tier is easily Arumat followed by Meracle. They have the highest dps(technically Meracle has the highest potential with x-claw spam vs dragon roar). Using elemental weapons is bad so that quake scythe isnt his best weapon. He also has duplication which makes him the most useful character end game for making your final gear. So I'd Say: Arumat, Meracle Myuria, Bachus, Reimi, Sarah Edge, Lymle Faize

The Last Hope is actually tied with The Divine Force for my favorite Star Ocean. My usual endgame team is me controlling Myuria, with Edge, Arumat and Sarah as ai party members. Great list!

Expectedly butchered Myuria's name. Goddamnit, they pronounce this name in the game many times, try to just listen and repeat. The Japanese should give everyone in their games names like Jack and Jill so that the Americans could not make a mistake in reading them and argue on the forums how to pronounce them correctly.
This is my first time watching Locloudane and it sounded like he was intentionally butchering her name as his focus was....elsewhere. I felt it was done for comedic effect is all. Geez.
This game... like the battle system was soo soo good for the time, but the story was about as terrible as it gets. Its truely a hodgepodge of terrible plot points, and attempts to be campy but this is a JRPG and if your doing campy for too long, it just turns into cringe. This is 50 hr+ JRPG with a penultimate cut scene that was like an hour and a half if I recall and thats a long time to be stuck in cringe. I will say that with the battle system different characters excelled in different types of battles, like Remi was a god for boss battles, but against small fast mobs, she was terrible as her arrows had more delay and worse tracking than the mages, so she would often miss many shots. Myuria was actually one of the few pure caster mages that was fun to control in an action JRPG as you were trying to launch spells that would combo into each other in a satisfactory way and Meracle was probably one of the best characters in any action JRPG to control as she flies around the the arena, not just being fast but having agility type moves like slides and jumps, along side her natural high speed and combos. Honestly this game did a bang up job of making everyone fun to play in combat, where as in games like the Tales series from around this time, maybe one or two characters might be fun to play as and everyone else was better left to the AI.

One thing you forgot about Meracle and Reimi is just how easily they handle building the bonus board in what ever way you want to.

The Japanese should give everyone in their games names like Jack and Jill so that the Americans could not make a mistake in reading them and argue on the forums how to pronounce them correctly.

This is my first time watching Locloudane and it sounded like he was intentionally butchering her name as his focus was....elsewhere. I felt it was done for comedic effect is all. Geez.

This game... like the battle system was soo soo good for the time, but the story was about as terrible as it gets. Its truely a hodgepodge of terrible plot points, and attempts to be campy but this is a JRPG and if your doing campy for too long, it just turns into cringe. This is 50 hr+ JRPG with a penultimate cut scene that was like an hour and a half if I recall and thats a long time to be stuck in cringe.
I will say that with the battle system different characters excelled in different types of battles, like Remi was a god for boss battles, but against small fast mobs, she was terrible as her arrows had more delay and worse tracking than the mages, so she would often miss many shots. Myuria was actually one of the few pure caster mages that was fun to control in an action JRPG as you were trying to launch spells that would combo into each other in a satisfactory way and Meracle was probably one of the best characters in any action JRPG to control as she flies around the the arena, not just being fast but having agility type moves like slides and jumps, along side her natural high speed and combos.
Honestly this game did a bang up job of making everyone fun to play in combat, where as in games like the Tales series from around this time, maybe one or two characters might be fun to play as and everyone else was better left to the AI.
