+Luciano R no, shutter speed is how long stuff goes through your hole, if it effected the speed, that means shutter speed would control the speed of light.
I don't understand how you guys can be so good about covering varying (but basic/for everyone) subjects in depth over the course of multiple videos, but you can only just manage random one-off beginner's videos on the main channel.
it would be nice because lets say you just got a new camera and are going on a trip, plug in head phones, play the playlist, and you know everything you need to take great shots
+Kwales66 yeah, I found most of this out on my own but these videos are still a nice refresher and showing that I was luckily right about how they all work
2:43 just a friendly FYI; that's not a bullet, that's a shell casing, I i took pretty much the same picture with my olympus SZ30MR, whos shutter speed is probably around 1/1500, and my RockIslandArmory TAC 22TCM FS
Yup, when taking basketball or ice hockey pictures on my d5200 I stick to 1/640 at an ISO of 6400. Plus or minus depending on the lighting. Thinking of using my now retired d5000 for deep space photography though. However with the mounts required it can get costly quick.
What's with the lower audio quality in the newer episodes? there is this consistent background hum noise in all the newest episodes of techquickie that aren't there or at least aren't noticeable in episodes from like say a year ago.
+Tasos Kanaris They're in a warehouse now so there's a bigger space for it to echo in. Methinks they need better dampening on the mic's or to flag off the set with some foam board or something.
+TalesOfWar I know they've moved to the warehouse but I would imagine Linus wouldn't let something like this go by. Really hope they address this soon :)
so for the stars picture, the shutter is open for hours but the camera only takes 1 pic right? so how does itt"remember"what has happened during the time the shutter was open?
speaking about shutter speed, two weeks ago i taking photo of the solar eclipse and use 1/8000 s and a ND8 filter + a sunglases and the result is quiet good for a D3600(I believe because it is not mine). and last years i took a photo of a mountain when it was still pitch black, and i need to use 3sec and still quiet good for a nikon D90 camera
+darkychao it was a shell leaving a gun. the bullet was long gone, but the principle still stands. Caught a relatively fast moving object with a short shutter speed.
Good job explaining! Since I am a professional photographer, I was skeptical of the accuracy of the video, but thankfully you guys nailed it! That's exactly it. Great job doing your research! :)
Well, sometimes, if I only have my phone's stupid camera and I wanna take a long-exposure picture, I use it's slow-mo video feature, keep that thing still with whatever first working thing I find, then I use After Effects later in post to fake the blur and turn all the video's images into one! It's not perfect, and the "blur" can sometimes look blocky and unrealistic, but most of the time it works for me when you don't have a good enough camera!
NEW IDEA FOR FAST AS POSSIBLE: transferspeeds (like copying and downloading), why arent they stable??? Linus please see this, i have asked it multiple times before...
I know you want a video, but I'm gonna give a shot at explaining: you need your CPU to plan the copying or downloading of files. Usually, the CPU is fast enough it doesn't bottleneck, but if you're stressing the CPU and not allow it to copy files, the speed may fluctuate. Also, since hard drivess have spinning platters, one part of a file may be a longer sequence, while another - hard to reach. Downloading/uploading is usually affected by the servers nowadays, because they have limited connection speed and depending on the amount of users accesing that server, your file transfer speed will fluctuate.
+Jesse Zwaal, It very much depends on what you are transferring and where from. When transferring local a file that is large you will get a very stable speed, whereas when transferring lots of smaller files you will see a bump because your computer is grabbing the next file. It can also be dependant on the read/write speeds of the storage devices and things like CPU and RAM load can effect things as well. As for over the internet or a network, it all depends on how the data is being sent, the stability of the network, the send/receive capabilities of the devices, other requests being sent and received and the quality of the connection.
I'm a little worried about the shutter speed of 4000 in 4k with my zve10 Can it do any damages to shutter ? I mean something is moving 4 thousand times in one second that's why I'm worried about it
Because it's a shell and not a bullet? I think they just used some stock image of someone shooting for universal whatever word I'm looking for, I'm pretty sure (and really hope) they know it wasn't a bullet
Please do "White Balance - As Fast As Possible" and/or "rule of thirds as fast as possible" This would make it a complete guide for DSLR noobs. I loan cameras to photography students and this would be perfect!
lol TH-cam sent me a notification saying Techquickie just uploaded this video 7 minutes ago. i knew something's off. i already watched this video before
You can always have an overall lower exposure (incorrect and underexposed according to the exposure indicator in the camera) and then tweak it in Lightroom. A few stops underexposed shouldn't be much of an issue if you're shooting RAW.
+ShiroiKage009 He mentioned you should compensate with aperture and ISO if you are going to experiment with really fast or really slow shutter speeds. 3:56 Without compensating you will get underexposed or overexposed images respectively.
image stabilisation as fast as possible crop factor / sensor size as fast as possible interchangable lenses as fast as possible lens quality as fast as possible focusing as fast as possible photo composition as fast as possible video as fast as possible b-roll as fast as possible
Aperture is how big your hole is.
ISO is how sensitive your hole is.
Shutter speed is how long your hole remains open.
There, faster than a video.
10/10
+Luciano R this is in fact, pretty much it.
+Luciano R no, shutter speed is how long stuff goes through your hole, if it effected the speed, that means shutter speed would control the speed of light.
+Some Weeb I was waiting to see who would ruin the joke. I found you
+Luciano R Is there pun intended?
I don't understand how you guys can be so good about covering varying (but basic/for everyone) subjects in depth over the course of multiple videos, but you can only just manage random one-off beginner's videos on the main channel.
you should make a playlist on this channel called camera quickie with just photography related stuff
it would seem that cameras are more complicated than computers
+Louis Henn modern cameras are computers
+Juan More but the point is that they require a much difference knowledge than the one of the computer user(or poweruser)
it would be nice because lets say you just got a new camera and are going on a trip, plug in head phones, play the playlist, and you know everything you need to take great shots
+Johntheawesomeguy or a playlist
Thanks for such a simplistic explanation. I've been attempting photography for years now and after watching this video I finally get it.
+Kwales66 yeah, I found most of this out on my own but these videos are still a nice refresher and showing that I was luckily right about how they all work
2:44 That's not a bullet, that's just the shell as it falls on the ground xD
2:43 just a friendly FYI; that's not a bullet, that's a shell casing, I i took pretty much the same picture with my olympus SZ30MR, whos shutter speed is probably around 1/1500, and my RockIslandArmory TAC 22TCM FS
2:45 .... is that actually the bullet or just the cartridge??
Great video btw Linus and crew
+Liam Moscrop bullet
it is the spent casing flying after being ejected from the gun
+Liam Moscrop It's just the casing
+Liam Moscrop That is the casing!
Many thanks for this tutorial. Excellent no-nonsense presentation.
One 70-200 f2.8 please!
+The Hoax Hotel Only IS, please.
+Jemi-To Shumafuk And MkII if it's the Canon flavour.
I used shutter speed to help me with my Art project and by having a slow shutter speed I was able to get some really cool light paintings
I guess that gun was a fully automatic semi-auto assault weapon of war.
Nice video guys! I enjoy these techquickies! Just one thing, aperture is a measure of how big the iris opens not the shutter.
2:46 that's a cartridge, not a bullet.
+CommandMan7 spent casing*
+CommandMan7 Came down for "shell" comment.
It's also not a cartridge. It's a casing.
+CommandMan7 Thats casing not a cartridge....
+CommandMan7 Empty bullet casing..

Just wondering, were the new LED flex lights used in this video?
The links for the Aperture and ISO videos don't work.
so for the stars picture, the shutter is open for hours but the camera only takes 1 pic right? so how does itt"remember"what has happened during the time the shutter was open?

2:40 Just saying, that photo captured the casing that was ejected, not the supersonic bullet that fires out of the muzzle...
Can you go to fast with your shutterspeed? I have a Olympus epl-pm1 (2013)
As a 3D modeller I loved this one. Very very useful! More like this please! F-stop maybe?
That was not a bullet.
And that also wasn't Taran on a Razor scooter.
+darkychao it was a shell leaving a gun. the bullet was long gone, but the principle still stands. Caught a relatively fast moving object with a short shutter speed.
Do mirror less cameras have shutters? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Can you do a Techquickie on the Tor network?
Good job explaining! Since I am a professional photographer, I was skeptical of the accuracy of the video, but thankfully you guys nailed it!
That's exactly it. Great job doing your research! :)
microsoft lumia 950 xl has 1/16000 shutter speed, and as i watched tested it, it effects really photos very much
Well, sometimes, if I only have my phone's stupid camera and I wanna take a long-exposure picture, I use it's slow-mo video feature, keep that thing still with whatever first working thing I find, then I use After Effects later in post to fake the blur and turn all the video's images into one! Totally should have been a Brandon video!
Linus: if you open and shut your eyes very very quickly.
Viewers: *blink blink*
Can you talk about Disk Mirroring? Thanks in Advance!

More videos like these please! :)
1) Select the F stop
2) Select the right shutter.
3) adjust the ISO for a proper exposure
What's F stop?
garfield jx F stop is how big the iris of the lens is. The "eye" that you can open and close
GranVlog so.. aperture?
+garfield jx yes
That's not the projectile of that bullet lol That's the shell casing.
Interesting Tutorial. Thx 4 that :-)
Hi, Can you guys please do a video explaining Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR).
A lot of people are saying that it's the same as 4k to the naked eye.
I was actually expecting Brandon to do this video of techquickie, but I still liked the video.
Why is there no more 4K techquickie???????
I'm a little worried about the shutter speed of 4000 in 4k with my zve10
Can it do any damages to shutter ?
I mean something is moving 4 thousand times in one second that's why I'm worried about it
Am looking for the iso video
This was a very educational video and you explained it in a clear way that I understood, thanks very much Linus.
Great explanation Linus.
2:44 Linus shows how clueless about guns Canadians are....
+Sepehr Naserkhaki yeah, because he didn't see matrix, and can't tell a bullet from the casing.
Because it's a shell and not a bullet? I think they just used some stock image of someone shooting for universal whatever word I'm looking for, I'm pretty sure (and really hope) they know it wasn't a bullet
***** P.S. I'm Canadian too and was just pointing out the funny..
+Pancer's Cloud Well that was a tad dark
+Sepehr Naserkhaki To be fair, someone else put that in and wasn't working with him on that one.
0:50 nice one Brandon!
Please do "White Balance - As Fast As Possible" and/or "rule of thirds as fast as possible"
This would make it a complete guide for DSLR noobs. I loan cameras to photography students and this would be perfect!
using a low shutter speed is like shooting a video and overlaying all the frames on top of each other
+Eugene InLaw I was thinking the same thing.
+Eugene InLaw I bet there's an app for that.
Steamrick even if there is, I don't have a clue how to look for it
History of Linus as fast as possible please
that wasn't a bullet man sorry. that was the shell.... Bullet was long gone and too fast unless u get a phantom camera
well how come when i increase my shutter speed the image get darker?
TNReels Less time for taking in more light I guess.
03:09 - Belgrade, Serbia. Cool!
Thank you
The content is quality again
lol TH-cam sent me a notification saying Techquickie just uploaded this video 7 minutes ago. i knew something's off. i already watched this video before
same
Would it be wrong to say that a shutter closing is basically equivalent to blinking?
+Erik István Fejes
It would not, camera functions like an eye. Shutter = your eyelid, aperture = your retina, ISO = light receptors in your eye.
edmdeposit So... I'm not right... Because I'm right?
That Picture at 3:18 Is Dublin! :D
How does shutter speed work with mirrorless cameras than, because the sensor is constantly being exposed?
this video was very helpful
New sub.here. love from philippines.
Suggestion for future As Fast as Possible:
What exactly is LaTeX - TeX?
This video was REALLY good and interesting, also it's useful. Moar!
Off topic, but Linus looks like he hits the gym. How much can you bench Linus?
Over 9000 on Cinebench XD
I'm not sure if very clever, or very nerdy. Either way, I laughed :D.
+cyancoyote HAHAHAHAH OMG
+Maso5 He doesn't, he just lifts his kids. He's said before those are his "daddy arms".
+Maso5 Oh god, what are you doing here! Now I'm gonna have to install gmod again :|
is that shirt supposed to be grey or was it black and just washed too much?
+Corban Wood Supposed to be grey.
setting
You can use a slow shutter speed and still take a tack sharp photo of a speeding bullet. Pitch black room, short flash duration.
Tbh, the S7 can take photos in 1/32000s or 1/16000s if I'm not mistaken.
love it, thanks man
Great video
Why are there no cars to be seen in these long shutter speed photos where the car lights are lined out?
+Fotsirvelk
Because they have passed by long ago, before the shutter was closed and image recorded.
I WAS 110% EXPECTING A SHUTTERSTOCK AD
So wait. I have exposure compensation, shutter speed, ISO, aperture and all that stuff.. WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE TO BRIGHTEN THAT FREAKING IMAGE?
all affect the exposure i think
increasing ISO should be your last resort. It brightens things up but makes it way more grainy.
Okay, so
ISO - adds grainyness
Exposure Compensation - washes everything out, adds a little grain
Shutter Speed - adds motion blur
Aperture - adds dem fancee deff of feeld ^^
If you take the image on full manual mode, there's no exposure compensation
You can always have an overall lower exposure (incorrect and underexposed according to the exposure indicator in the camera) and then tweak it in Lightroom. A few stops underexposed shouldn't be much of an issue if you're shooting RAW.
Am I the only one who can't find the aperture vid he was talking about at 0:30 ?
10/23/2016 | 19:20
Slow shutter speed is really good for fireworks and lightning too.
Excellent job of explaining shutter speed... Was this video a response to +devinsupertramps horrible job of it that he posted last week?
Did you entirely skip over how long exposure increases the saturation of the image?
+ShiroiKage009 He mentioned you should compensate with aperture and ISO if you are going to experiment with really fast or really slow shutter speeds. 3:56 Without compensating you will get underexposed or overexposed images respectively.
Mario P. Cardenas I'm talking about saturation, not exposure. The colors will look different (saturated/unsaturated), not just "brighter/darker."
Thanks Linus! I never fully understood this til now... Im a noob with photography lol
2:43
loool ya dingus, that's the bullet casing which you can see with the naked eye...
3:18 O'Connell Street not looking like a shithole? Who's been at the Photoshop?
Shuttle Speed 2h = a movie compressed into a picture
Knowledgeable video
2:43 That is not a bullet guys, that's a bullet casing. Come on
"Like a bullet" **shows shell casing being ejected**
You haven't released Vacuum Cannon yet :/
Thank you, Linus.
Off subject: The final frame of the vid has you looking a lot like Tom Brady. Lol Great vid overall.
Thanxxx Man...
You guys really need to add sound proofing to your sets... the warehouse is damn loud
Do we need shutter speed more than 1/4000
i would say video is better for captuing that special moment
The camera with the eyeball in it? Thanks for nightmare fuel..

I can hear the echo from your voice coz of the large building. it's faint, but it's there!
thank god for ur new haircut Linus. Mowhawk be gone
Wow ! I thought those pictures of light lines on streets were photoshopped or something !
Linus its almost as if you knew i'd just bought a DSLR!
Bullet... 😂
At least we know that Shutterstock won't sponsor LTT again !
