Well to be honest, we never saw what Teridax's body looked like before he disguised himself as Dume. It's my Headcanon that his appearance in Mask of Light was gained when he absorbed Krekka, Nidhiki and Nivawk. He just happened to lose his wings. Note I said HEADcanon
I got the special boxed set as a kid and just now combined the three individual sets together, and I needed two extra 4 long axles that aren't included in the separate sets. The boxed set had to have come with extras.
I feel like they wanted Ultimate Dume to be kinda grotesque and almost cathulu like. Just look like a really freakish and scary monster guy. That's at least the impression I got from the design and it works for me mostly. The long limbs, freakishly big hands and mouth. I was dissapointed that he just looked like Mask of Light Makuta again but with wings. I think they did it to make it easier for kids to recognize him as the same character and it was easier to reuse his design. Still kinda wish we could have gotten a more unique movie version of the set that was more creepy and scary.
What's actually interesting about the movie design is that you can see that the designs of Nihdiki and Krekka have been changed a little bit to be used as pieces of Makuta Terridax when he absorbs them at the end of the film. Nihdiki has rahkshi bodies for legs (which can be seen in Terridax's legs and chest) while Krekka's bulky body is used as well.
I think it's less a case of recognizability, and more to save the budget. It's much easier to just take an existing CGI model and bolt some wings onto it.
The Ultimate Dume set does come with 2 extra axles, according to Bricklink and the one I bought from a previous owner who packaged the mask and axles in a separate bag. Also, the exclusive mask is nicknamed the "Mask of Power", which is entirely non-canon. Not sure where that came from.
Kaden Nguyen yeah but the Shadowed One cut Teridax’s wings off so Ultimate Dume canonically looks like 2003 Makuta with wings but with the Toy version being the Ultimate Dume without the mask of shadows I think
@@nickytembo4112 The combiner look is canon, Vakama pointed out to The Shadowed One on the body parts of Nidhiki and Krekka on Teridax, and that instantly made Shadowed One retaliate on the Makuta
That Kranua reminds me of a Slizer combiner in how blocky and ugly it is. Excellent overview as always. Just one more set of Toa Metru for the Krahka, and I'll have a complete set of figures, collectables, and combiners from 2004. I actually got a sealed Ultimate Dume set about 5 years ago, and I seem to recall that it did come with two extra size 4 plus rods, which I thought was odd because they were unnecessary. That aside, I am a big fan of the Ultimate Dume set - I actually love how thin and spindly it is. It's very skeletal, which I find gives it a creepy, unsettling vibe (fitting considering that Ultimate Dume's existence in canon is the result of a triple murder). I also think that the Kraahkan has some resemblance to the default/overhead attachment of the '03 Kraahkan, particularly in the shape of the eyes and forehead (and how it goes back over the top of the head) so I shall respectfully disagree with a few of your criticisms towards that model. Shame I just barely missed the premiere, but I hope it was a good time!
Krahka's Story for those who don't know.. Krahka is a Shape shifting Rahi that was sealed in the Onu-Metru Archives. It had Escaped and when the Toa Metru went to capture it it mimicked each of them to fool the seperated Toa. Finally during a final bout against them all it took the form above and from what I recall it got stuck in this Form.
I love Krahka way more than I thought when I first saw the picture in one of the guidebooks, she's probably my fav Rahi, just the fact she's technically a rahi is of itself cool
my first bionicle was metru vakama so I've been staring at kralhi for 15 years. I got Onewa two years later and thought "I might be able to make it soon"... I only got matau in, like, 2016 and it's been such a long time, that I don't have all of vakama's original pièces (but I found a new one, for sentimental value, you know... being my first bionicle and all...) and I lost Onewa along the way... I'm happy to have stumbled onto this, because I would have never sought out the combo model.
Funny thing about the special addition set. I remember getting it, and the box art of Ultimate Dume didn’t even have the Krakahn on the model! So the super awesome combo model box special collection didn’t even market it with this one of a kind piece
I have to respectfully disagree on Ultimate Dume... he is actually my favorite of the 2004 combo models. And, I actually really like the inclusion of that special edition mask in the set... In my opinion, it makes the head look a lot better, and I can see a lot of MOCing potential with that piece.

I’ve honestly imagined the interpretation for Makuta from Legends of Metru Nui should be the Makuta set from 2003, put some sort of wings on it, maybe build an attachable Shadow Hand and put it on that open ball joint on the chest or something and boom you have Makuta from Legends of Metru Nui! Cause both movies use the same model they just add wings on Makuta in the second one
The only reason the same model of film Makuta was used in Legends of Metru Nui is because it's easier just to reuse an asset rather than create a completely different and new one. You even see the exact same shots of the cheering matoran crowd from Mask of Light in the second film. I would've loved to have seen the monstrous "Ultimate Dume" in film.
I always thought that the extra mask piece for Ultimate Dume was attached with the 1.5 long axel of the upper jaw piece. Thought it worked the same way as the visor pieces of toa phantoka.
I actually have the Ultimate Dume collector's box set from 2004. It was a gift from a neighborhood friend. One problem. Back when I got it, I wasn't a huge Bionicle fan as I am Today. So most of the pieces are lost. Still have the special Mask of Shadows though.
I still can't believe they tried to pass that thing off as a representation of Teridax. At the very least, if the sets came first, they should've made Teridax resemble this set more, especially considering the thousand-year time gap between Mask of Light and Legends of Metru Nui...
After all the remixed reviews it would be cool to see a series that takes the most interesting designs and redesigns made of them into mocs (no limited to the sets for parts)
I have two copies of ultimate dume so i can have him and his constituents built at the same time. I think people don't often notice how similar his features are to the original makuta set and even maxilos: all three have longer thighs and smaller lower legs with slipper-looking feet, more fingers than the average toa or titan, parallel beams or pistons going up the sides of the lower torso, and a very pronounced, angular chest and shoulders. This model i think embodies very well the makuta's shapeshifting capability where he retains these identifiable features like he has a particular self-image that he chooses to preserve between different styles and forms, similar to the kanohi hau between tahus mata, mistika, and toa lhikan I did add pistons to him though, he really needs em P.S. the mask of power looks more like the kraahkan in the films than the 03 "movie kraahkan" especially when you put the mask of time on the bottom instead of the teeth, a feature i believe is intentional considering that A: it works perfectly and B: the makuta's wanting it in the metru nui plot from 04 to 05

Haha, got here five minutes before the end of the premiere, so rewatching now. It's great so far and I try not to early-comment, but apparently I have thoughts about the Kralhi! (Edit: Also, your "REMIX" voice is getting powerful and mighty. Also also Yay we're going back to Kardas!) I suspect that the articulation restriction of the Kralhi was to provoke a far more clunky, robotic design than its Vahki successors. This isn't a defence necessarily, but I do like that it can only move in traditionally robotic ways, none of which really impair its stated design. Of course, that could be overthinking given that it's a combo but, given the snakelike patterning and very nice function, I feel like the Kralhi might actually have been a designer's pet project. I'd have liked it as a set, honestly. I especially love how the (very cool) shoulder design suggest careful, pincer-like movements unless in "powered" mode, when they swing up-and-down-and-about like the woodchipper from Karzahni. Also, how the legs seem to work a bit like hydraulic forward-back spider legs. Not very all-terrain compared to the Kraahu, of course, but it *was* a prototype. The tail... I don't mind. I like the snakey look, but I'm not sure why it's so long on a bipedal build. Overall, it looks and functions like something Nuparu would build to solve a problem but didn't necessarily optimise it as intensively as the Vahki which... I think is an excellent thing to portray for the story. I know you don't review in-story reasons and I like that; just wanted to give my two cents. By contrast, I'm... so disappointed in that Kraawa. it's not... good.
Well, I'm kind of sad that I made the instructions for Krahka for the BS01, and I spent hours to figure out the correct colors based on the Rahi Rahi Beast guide and the shading of the original instructions. Okay, I got wrong with the shoulders, because I thought they used the Hagah method, and someone made a correction of it on flick, but I was the first who was willing to make a usable instruction guide for her
Tbh I love the boxes where they sell the combined set as a product, at retail you have the possibility to get three retro mint titans for like 20 bucks and a special mask
I feel like Ultimate Dume's special mask would have been a lot nicer if it were at least as wide as the jaws. It just looks so small and dinky as is. It could have filled out the space the Mata head leaves and made a really menacing looking giant head
I remember I got Ultimate Dume with the special mask of shadows for Christmas one year and since in the movie Makuta looks like his 03 appearance but with wings I didn’t understand until years later that Ultimate Dume was supposed to be him so I just built the three individual Titian’s and lost the mask because if I couldn’t put it on my Toa then why bother keeping it.
Very funny how Makuta is the only character to have combo sets with exclusive masks, with his three different ones, too bad the last on with the MoUP didn’t get the mask released
The Kranua combo model looks like a heavy or elite Vahki to me. Like this is the Vahki they bring out when there's a big riot or battle going on or something, like an ED-209.
I honestly think the Ultimate Dume looks better without the Kraahkan. The mask comes in on the sides so it doesnt really mesh well with the jaws and it really just looks like someone put the head on top of the mouth instead of the mouth being part of the head. I always did like the jaws, they gave the model more character to me and added more to the more monstrous appearance of Ultimate Dume. I always saw it as more of a nightmare creature anyway and didnt really like how the movie just brought back the previous look of Makuta and gave him wings, especially after taking the time to show him absorbing Nidhiki and Krekka. I really do think that a lot of people would have a much more positive opinion of the set if it weren't for the movie depiction.
The Ultimate Dume 3 in 1 did came with 2 additional axle pieces and the mask. How do I know this? I have the 3 2004 titans and built Ultimate Dume and had 0 of those pieces left over.
Can you also do a size comparison with the Brutaka x Axon combo model? Forgot what it is called but it and Ultimate Dume are very similar in appearance.

I wish there was a place to get more bionicle figures. I’ve got a good amount of them already but I did miss out on getting more vahki kits and never got a single matoran from any series aside from takua in the takua and pewku kit.

Ultimate dume looks so much better with the mask on. It adds to the appearance by making his head more prominent than the tiny bald toa Mata head

I got the special Kraahkan in a set a while ago. The mask was still in its plastic packaging. It had the extra axle rods in it.

He forgot to mention that the second Vahki combo can be split into 2 different drones. It also does that in the story canonically.
Where does it split? Do you mean it splits into a head with 2 legs and two loose pairs of legs?

5:47 I think this is the only time I've ever seen Onewa with a straight set of Proto-Pitons. Usually, they're all bent out of proportions.

Overall, it looks and functions like something Nuparu would build to solve a problem but didn't necessarily optimise it as intensively as the Vahki which... I think is an excellent thing to portray for the story. I know you don't review in-story reasons and I like that; just wanted to give my two cents.

Well, I'm kind of sad that I made the instructions for Krahka for the BS01, and I spent hours to figure out the correct colors based on the Rahi Rahi Beast guide and the shading of the original instructions. Okay, I got wrong with the shoulders, because I thought they used the Hagah method, and someone made a correction of it on flick, but I was the first who was willing to make a usable instruction guide for her

I feel like Ultimate Dume's special mask would have been a lot nicer if it were at least as wide as the jaws. It just looks so small and dinky as is. It could have filled out the space the Mata head leaves and made a really menacing looking giant head

I remember I got Ultimate Dume with the special mask of shadows for Christmas one year and since in the movie Makuta looks like his 03 appearance but with wings I didn’t understand until years later that Ultimate Dume was supposed to be him so I just built the three individual Titian’s and lost the mask because if I couldn’t put it on my Toa then why bother keeping it.
Very funny how Makuta is the only character to have combo sets with exclusive masks, with his three different ones, too bad the last on with the MoUP didn’t get the mask released
The Kraahu reminded me of the Acklay from Star Wars too, from it's six claws.
The Kranua combo model looks like a heavy or elite Vahki to me. Like this is the Vahki they bring out when there's a big riot or battle going on or something, like an ED-209.

I honestly think the Ultimate Dume looks better without the Kraahkan. The mask comes in on the sides so it doesnt really mesh well with the jaws and it really just looks like someone put the head on top of the mouth instead of the mouth being part of the head. I always did like the jaws, they gave the model more character to me and added more to the more monstrous appearance of Ultimate Dume. I always saw it as more of a nightmare creature anyway and didnt really like how the movie just brought back the previous look of Makuta and gave him wings, especially after taking the time to show him absorbing Nidhiki and Krekka. I really do think that a lot of people would have a much more positive opinion of the set if it weren't for the movie depiction.

I wish there was a place to get more bionicle figures. I’ve got a good amount of them already but I did miss out on getting more vahki kits and never got a single matoran from any series aside from takua in the takua and pewku kit.
Love Ultimeant dume design much enough to tollerate non movie looking set. There are enough movie like mocs to enjoy them.
