@leaderoftheworldputin I do strongly support your suggestion about the children and cancer organizations though. A close friend of mine had cancer 3 separate times between ages 13 to 17, and a good amount of his medical costs were covered by an org like this (not sure of the exact name of the org). He is still alive today at 30 years old, and is currently in nursing school and plans to work as an oncology nurse when he's finished with his studies.

Adam, Move to the Quad Cities! It is about 45 minutes away from Iowa City and there are many good paying jobs in this area. I wish you and your family the best!!
Yeah, he does have an income and insurance problem. I'm a single guy without kids or health issues, and $37K seems pretty small to me for an income. He's got to kick into gear and make more money. He also needs to get out of the rent-to-own. Those are a terrible idea. I had a friend that did that and he hit hard times and ended up getting evicted 10 years in. (You can't sell it for equity, like buying, so you lose everything.)
This would be where better insurance options would be helpful....but you know Dave doesnt like the Aca.... and imagine if there were better options????
Look at the ‘GoodRx’ app. It gives you the lowest cost of full priced medication (without insurance aid). It’s coupon for medication and the area where it’s the cheapest. For instance it could say Walgreens 50 dollars and 20 miles away and Walmart 35 dollars and 15 miles away. Gives you lots of options
What a horrible story about the tragedy that is US health care..how can you expect a family to work a second job..insanity..so blessed I am not a u.s. citizen. Hopefully this family is eligible for support from various sources. So sad.
It scares me when I hear horror stories like this. The fact that the richest country in the world spends more to maintain the largest military ever created, but will let it's citizens go into debt, lose their homes, and declare bankruptcy in order to survive catastrophic illness of a family member. The Canadian system is far from perfect, bu this conversation would not happen here.
Agree. I live in the UK and am so grateful for the free healthcare we receive on the NHS. I can't imagine having to decide whether I could afford to seek medical help. Yet so many here take our health service for granted. I hope this family pulls through.
@C B Apparently you don't know anything about the Canadian system. It's based on need, not the ability to pay. Someone with stage 3 cancer goes to the head of the line and is in the hospital right now. You and your hangnail can wait, no matter how much money you have.
I hope Dave sent this family a pledge on the baby’s medications. My heart goes out to him and his wife, I cannot imagine my children having cancer. Praying for them!
I really wished I was in a financial spot to help this family out. One day I will be able to pay off this debt for people and not even bat an eye. God Bless you and your Family.
You may be able to apply for medicaid. When my daughter went through cancer treatment a couple years ago SHE qualified for Medicaid based on her illness and not on our financial ability. It covered our co pays and what our insurance didn’t. Praying for you and your son. I know personally that it is a difficult road.
So many great people giving ideas in the comment section, I hope Adam would read these comments. Dave is tough when he has to be, but he knows that you have debt because of your circumstances than he would pick you up and get you going to fight for another day. God bless Dave Ramsey even more.
There's a hospital here in Florida where kids medical treatment like this is paid by charitable donations so kids are treated for cancer at no cost to the family....it's called st Jude's hospital. Might want to research if there's a place like that nearby. This vid is a year old now but I'm praying for him!
It's not that simple. It sounds like he's a single dad, so he'll probably have to transfer custody of his son if he joins the military, since the son sounds like he needs full time care. This means that his son won't be eligible for Tricare. The military is, first and foremost, a fighting force. We don't generally allow special situations like this into the military because it means that we have one less soldier ready to train and fight daily. It's a different matter if it happens after he takes the oath, but he would be immediately separated if he lied about it to get in.
It would be really tough to ask a worried family to work side jobs when their son may be close to passing away. This is a tough situation. I'm not sure there is any good advice to give here.
AwesomeMan2696 Lol, prove my stupid statement wrong then. Since it’s so stupid and pointless (so pointless you felt the need to respond) then it should be an easy task.
Most medical providers are non profit. As such they generally will negotiate or eliminate billing that is not payable. I've helped many of my clients with unfunded bills. It ususally requires some paperwork and follow up. The pharmacutical companies will also provide low or no cost drugs. You just must do the paperwork, which is not that difficult.
Alex Wright BS. Healthcare is NEVER free. People are paying through their taxes. Are you healthy? Then maybe that's why you are perfectly okay with the "free" healthcare.
Alex Wright totally agree with this, nobody should ever have to worry about money because their child is fighting for their life. The US pay more of their GDP for healthcare than any other OECD country and somehow his guy is still stuck with a bill despite having insurance. And people think this is better than playing *slightly* higher taxes and never having to worry about this
Some hospitals have financial aid, also sometimes you can fight with insurance company. Ask the cancer organizations if they can help you. Tough situation.
I'm unsure of the type of mediction he is being prescribed but I have patients calling for medication alternatives that may be lower of cost, and ask for coupons from the doctors. I don't if this will help but I'm just putting it out there. I hope that was able to help.
Dave can you PLEASE do a video about the NACA home buying program?? The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America. They want to get first time home buyers in a home with no down payment, no PMI and lowest interest rate even with bad credit. A good friend recommended it to me and I am seriously seeing scam written all over this. Please!!
If we had a single payer system, the medical treatments wouldn't even exist due to no incentive to find these innovations. The system may bankrupt him, but yours would result in the death of his son. In trying to be caring, you socialists would be killing children.
Maybe one of the thousands of Dave's listeners that has achieved financial prosperity with his method can help this guy out since giving is part of the formula.
Man, America really needs health care for all. Living in Canada I can never imagine someone struggling with finances if they had health issues. I myself have had spinal issues since I was a kid and I've had steroid injections, painkillers for years and now weekly nerve blocker spinal injections and I haven't paid for any of it. I can't imagine living in a country having all these health issues and me and my family having to struggle with finances. Blessed to be in Canada thank God
We should stop considering opening make a wish program or opening a go fund me page, and consider having medicare for all. its just not possible to put the burden of expensive healthcare on one family. Even dave said it don’t pay your health bill yet and take care of what is most important which is what everyone is doing making the cost of healthcare be more than it should. The leading reason of bankruptcy is healthcare and until we do something about its not going to change.
Prayers for the family. Situations like this is where people should get government assistance. The family is trying the best they can. But with a sick child its hard.
This is beyond sad the government should help people in this situation this is so unfair. May God bless your family and keep your faith God WILL provide a way.
Last year I had to be hospitalized with no insurance. (Long story, but some companies send their employees to Obamacare). I was rejected for Medicaid because I made too much money (spent all my free time working). Thankfully the hospital has a catastrophic care fund, but I don’t know if they help people who have insurance.
Yes I Know 2 of my friends that are on this journey and got medicad. I don't think it covered everything for the friend daughter who needed a liver transplant. The other friend daughter had cancer and found a lot of help.
Will have to fight for it and by the time it's approve the kid would had died . 😔I have a patient now..took years after his head injury to get fully cover .
Adam, my heart breaks for you and your family. You are on a complicated journey and carrying things that no one should have to carry. I want you to know that I'm going through a similar situation. Don't EVER be afraid to ask for money. You did not cause this, it's no one's fault, and people won't think less of you. Go to your church, share your story. Our church family has supported us in unimaginable ways. Be sure to reach out to the American Cancer Society. They have all kinds of free help available. Keep that faith. Keep praying for your son, your wife, and your family. I'd encourage everyone else reading this post to do the same.
I think he will never do this. Not that he wouldn't find it in his heart to help someone in need. I'm sure he would. But as soon as he would write one check 10,000 others in a similar situation would call asking for theirs. Throwing money at people will only go so far. I think Dave's way of empowering others to solve problems on their own is far more helpful.
Oh, are they a charity? Why don’t you work for free, since you want them to. Better yet, why don’t YOU donate to this guy instead of virtue signaling on TH-cam?
This may be an unpopular opinion. But I think Dave should offer to pay for his son’s medication. $950/month is $11,400/year. That’s about 31% of that family’s annual income. It’s understandable why some people would try to abuse Dave’s generosity, but he can always make such offers in private.
Poor father should do a gofundme campaign to raise funds. Please do it. I have helped families with a similar struggle. Just tell your story. So sorry for your struggle.
Andrew Yang's Freedom Dividend is $1,000 a month for life for every adult citizen. That's on top of Medicare for All. He needs to be on the Dem debate stage in Iowa. Put him on the map, hoss!!
You need a social worker, and to apply for state insurance with 37k a year your child will qualify!!! The hospital should have a state insurance rep, and a social worker to help you guys. There is so much help for families that go thru things like this. Speaking from experience!!
Man I really hope after this conversation dave gave this family money. I walked around on my birthday and gave away $50 bills to strangers because I’m all in on this program. For the love of god Dave please help this family.
Why don't you see if Ramsey Solutions can put you in contact with the family so you can help them with some birthday money? Spend your money before you spend Dave's.
@Josh S If he would start giving money to people who call in, then he would be flooded with bums calling. His goal is not to do anything for someone, but to teach them how to do it for themselves.
It is amazing what you can do with negotiation. My wife and I negotiated 30% off of a surgery for my relative. We just asked for it and it was approved. He should do a go fund me page. He has a real need.
So glad we live in the United Kingdom - we don't even think about medical bills. I would gladly pay more in taxes so that our country can provide free medical care for all. Really sad that America hasn't worked this out.
This is heartbreaking. Does he not qualify for Medicaid as a secondary insurance? At least to cover the medication? Wishing healing thoughts for your baby and your family Adam. ❤️
If it wasn’t for our politicians taking millions of dollars in lobbying money from the big pharma companies, this wouldn’t happen. My wife has medicine(s) that are $5-10k a month. This is how our politicians are millionaires so quickly. I pay a ton of money every year for medical, but I know my wife is getting the best care possible. We need reform but more taxes isn’t the answer.
Until you are hit with a catastrophic illness you really do not know how bad your insurance is. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and one of my medications is 1900 a month. One of them and i have others plus just living expenses. You pick between food and lights for meds that will keep you able to work to pay bills. Until i was diagnosed i thought i had great insurances.

Adam, you can do Doordash, Uber eats, or something like that even if you have to go to another city. While your son is having his treatment you can work. Just an idea. Prayers for your baby boy.
I second this idea. I've been driving delivery for Door Dash and Postmates in my spare time and it's been bringing in quite a substantial side/backup income for me. The gig economy is poppin' people!
@@foodtastesbetterthangasoli9815 Would you consider starting a TH-cam channel on this stuff?
@@MC-nw4ok I've considered documenting my experiences in some way (TH-cam or a blog of sorts), but just haven't really found the time in my schedule to really get around to it. Although, there are already plenty of very helpful TH-cam channels out there that not only document their experiences, but also give useful insight on different ways you can maximize your earnings, as well as your tax deductions. I'd probably have to scroll through all the channels I'm subscribed to, but I can definitely reply back again with some of the channels and blogs that helped me best orient myself with the space before I got started, if you're interested.
Josh S if I was in this situation I’d probably not even think about another job. I was just giving them suggestions. My heart goes out to anyone who is in this type of situation. I have three kids and would be devastated if I were going through this. I wasn’t trying to put his sons illness second to work.
Adam,
Move to the Quad Cities! It is about 45 minutes away from Iowa City and there are many good paying jobs in this area. I wish you and your family the best!!
Rosario Martinez John Deere is hiring all the time! Good to see another local listening to Dave. 👋
This would be what the go fund me website is made for.
This would be where better insurance options would be helpful....but you know Dave doesnt like the Aca.... and imagine if there were better options????
This would be what Medicare for all is for.
@@jenh9426 there is better healthcare options. It just needs to be sought out.
Jen H ACA doubled and tripled the cost of healthcare.
Mary Preston if you find out he has a go fund me let me know please.
Tell Adam to set up a GoFundMe, Dave! I'd gladly give them something to at least help alleviate some costs
So much to pray for... There are people really going through.
Frolie AMENE
My man should start a go-fund me. I pray his son makes it through. God bless Adam and his family
exactly what I thought! $1 from a fraction of Dave's viewers would be more than enough to get that medication!
This call brought me back down to Earth, love the empathy! ❤️
Ian MacDonald you’re right, no it wouldn’t. They’d just be waiting 6 months to see a doctor.
@@johnnymichael1804 and the son would die on the list probably because in the states view your sons not worth the money
How are we, the the richest country in the world with 22 trillion dollars in debt?
Praying for this family 🙏
I really wished I was in a financial spot to help this family out. One day I will be able to pay off this debt for people and not even bat an eye. God Bless you and your Family.
Dave please try to put pressure on the medicine company to see if they can help the family even more.
You may be able to apply for medicaid. When my daughter went through cancer treatment a couple years ago SHE qualified for Medicaid based on her illness and not on our financial ability. It covered our co pays and what our insurance didn’t. Praying for you and your son. I know personally that it is a difficult road.
Dave,I love your advice, the past couple of months I've been listening to your channel, it's helping me to be more positive,as I have been
Implementing your Technics it does work, thanks a lot ,Tim!
So many great people giving ideas in the comment section, I hope Adam would read these comments. Dave is tough when he has to be, but he knows that you have debt because of your circumstances than he would pick you up and get you going to fight for another day. God bless Dave Ramsey even more.
Is there a donation account set up for this family? I am doing better than I deserve and would like to help.
Such a beautiful offer.
That's not teaching them financial dependency
Maybe contact the Dave ramsay show and ask, or ask them if you can get in touch with them to set up a go fund me
@@CreamIceMs I'm doing worse then I deserve
Did I miss how old his son was? Could he go to st Jude or Shriners etc
I had to go through Shriners and they offered to pay for EVERYTHING.
Ronald McDonald's House
There's a hospital here in Florida where kids medical treatment like this is paid by charitable donations so kids are treated for cancer at no cost to the family....it's called st Jude's hospital. Might want to research if there's a place like that nearby. This vid is a year old now but I'm praying for him!
You are an amazing man Adam, your son is lucky to have an angel on Earth.
This poor guy. At this point, join the military. Get his boy on Tricare and all of his treatment is either free or massively reduced in price
@@allenklingsporn6993 His wife is mentioned in the video as the caregiver
That is not a bad idea. Did it say how old he was? He definitely needs to find a better job.
It would be really tough to ask a worried family to work side jobs when their son may be close to passing away. This is a tough situation. I'm not sure there is any good advice to give here.
Life is tough.
@@John-vj6ss Thanks for your pointless and stupid comment Emmaline
AwesomeMan2696 Lol, prove my stupid statement wrong then. Since it’s so stupid and pointless (so pointless you felt the need to respond) then it should be an easy task.
They said its curable
Great advice Dave! Very helpful
Yep. I see this every day. But why fill out some paperwork when you can whine about it instead?
I can’t help but think I hope Dave Ramsey gave him money off camera I know he probably didn’t but man Dave has a tone of money
The answer is Medicare for all.
dmbkersh no its not
No, it really isn’t.
Ive been where they are and have so many suggestions! I wish I knew how to get in touch with this family!!
I enjoyed the American Express card ad for this video 🤣 Good job TH-cam.
George McGovern Just goes to prove that robots aren’t quite as smart as humans yet!
Insurance sucks, it needs to be fixed. That’s ridiculous
I'm so glad I live in a country with free healthcare.. can't even imagine what that family is going through now
Lol! You think your healthcare is free. Nothing is free. Good lord, most of Dave Ramsey’s listeners are absolutely single digit IQ.
And people think this is better than playing *slightly* higher taxes and never having to worry about this
@@autumnspring6624 absolutely correct!
@@autumnspring6624 imagine getting so triggered about someone living in a better country that you. Also you don’t know how taxes work
Some hospitals have financial aid, also sometimes you can fight with insurance company. Ask the cancer organizations if they can help you. Tough situation.
Am so sorry Adam, you and your family are in our prayers. Your son will be well in Jesus name. 🙏🇦🇺
I'm unsure of the type of mediction he is being prescribed but I have patients calling for medication alternatives that may be lower of cost, and ask for coupons from the doctors. I don't if this will help but I'm just putting it out there. I hope that was able to help.
This is why I am for Medicare for all
Dave can you PLEASE do a video about the NACA home buying program?? The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America. They want to get first time home buyers in a home with no down payment, no PMI and lowest interest rate even with bad credit. A good friend recommended it to me and I am seriously seeing scam written all over this. Please!!
love the videos man keep up the great work.
If we had a single payer system in America this man wouldn’t be dealing with this headache.
Brutal. May the Lord help this family. Amen.
This is why we need Medicare4all + allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices/recalling patents that citizens developed through taxpayer research.
I need to call in to Dave’s show but he scares me and I’m not afraid to admit it lol
Just call him if you haven't already. I can't imagine it hurting anything.
My thoughts an prayers to the family.
Prayers for the family. Situations like this is where people should get government assistance. The family is trying the best they can. But with a sick child its hard.
I just wanted to hear dave say he would pay half of that medication. This poor man! That poor boy! My heart is broken for them.
This is beyond sad the government should help people in this situation this is so unfair. May God bless your family and keep your faith God WILL provide a way.
Aply for medicad.
I totally agree! That’s what it’s there for!
You'd be surprised how many kids and adults get rejected despite having clear, life-threatening, debilitating illnesses.
I wish this guy the best. Tough situation to be in.
I thank God for our health system in Australia when I listen to this stuff.
I wonder if Dave has ever been so moved to help a a caller in need, if so this would be a shining example.
Please can you do a follow up on this story, and if he's still struggling, please encourage him to go fund me and let him plug it on the show.
Apply for secondary insurance through the state!
$1100 to $950 gee thanks for the help multi-billion dollar drug company. I'm all for capitalism but this is just ridiculous.
That's why medical marijuana needs to be legal federally.
Oh, are they a charity? Why don’t you work for free, since you want them to. Better yet, why don’t YOU donate to this guy instead of virtue signaling on TH-cam?
Go fund me is a good idea
God bless this family they sound pretty needy at this time in their journey
This may be an unpopular opinion. But I think Dave should offer to pay for his son’s medication. $950/month is $11,400/year. That’s about 31% of that family’s annual income. It’s understandable why some people would try to abuse Dave’s generosity, but he can always make such offers in private.
This made me cry so hard
God bless you and your family 🙏
Poor father should do a gofundme campaign to raise funds. Please do it. I have helped families with a similar struggle. Just tell your story. So sorry for your struggle.
Medicare for all is a human right! Noone should be in this position!!
I love this guy!!
Andrew Yang's Freedom Dividend is $1,000 a month for life for every adult citizen. That's on top of Medicare for All.
He needs to be on the Dem debate stage in Iowa. Put him on the map, hoss!!
Where would the money for that come from?
I would negotiate with the doctor bills to get them to reduce them. If they won't then the collection agency that eventually buys it will negotiate.
Just 1 of the reasons why I left the states. Millions of Americans going under because of medical bills.
Every single American should be fully covered.
I have a feeling that Dave's going to help this mister off air.
Josh S Thx for the enlightenment.
It kinda sucks :/
@Josh S If he would start giving money to people who call in, then he would be flooded with bums calling. His goal is not to do anything for someone, but to teach them how to do it for themselves.
Any way to support this family ?
This is why we do this program.

Wait you make like 250 a day cutting trees? What kind of gig is that?
nate not now. He needs to spend time with his son and help take him to treatments.
This guy needs to try the GoFundMe route. There is no shame asking for charity in these circumstances.
It is amazing what you can do with negotiation. My wife and I negotiated 30% off of a surgery for my relative. We just asked for it and it was approved. He should do a go fund me page. He has a real need.

Dear Lord. I'm so thankful I live in Canada
I second that
I live in Australia, and I always think how lucky I am when I hear these horror stories of un-affordable medical treatment
So glad we live in the United Kingdom - we don't even think about medical bills. I would gladly pay more in taxes so that our country can provide free medical care for all. Really sad that America hasn't worked this out.
Mohammed Ayaz I WOULD STILL STAY IN MURICA
@Josh S Yup, Canada FTW
