It’s really interesting (and entertaining lol) to read everyone’s comments about Sydney vs Femke (Bol)!!! No doubt about it, Sydney was phenomenal in 2020-2023 before she was injured! Although she has announced that she’ll be competing in the 400h, that’s no guarantee that she will run the 400h in Paris…she’s leaving her options open. It’s nearly certain that she WON’T run in both the 400m & the 400h since it would tire her out considerably and reduce her chances of a gold medal in either. I like one person’s comment that Sydney might try to get a gold medal in the 400m in order to distinguish her as the only athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in both events even if it’s in different Olympic games. Regarding those that have stated that Sydney is basically a sure thing to take gold in Paris for the 400h…you better think twice! I’d give Femke Bol 50-50 odds of beating Sydney for the following reasons: 1. Femke is a few months younger that Sydney and hasn’t reached her peak yet. 2. She started running the 400h at an older age than Sydney and is still improving her technique (just recently running 14 steps per hurdle instead of 15) 3. Femke has also been improving her speed & stamina (she set and twice broke her own indoor record in the 400m 49.16) 4. Femke is lazer-focused on only running while Sydney has been distracted writing & promoting her new book, designing and promoting her line of New Balance running attire, and making speaking engagements & talk show appearances. 5. Femke has been consistently injury free while Sydney missed most of the 2023 outdoor season and is understandably rusty. Both women are incredible athletes, as well as human beings, and it will be awesome to see them compete in Paris!
@@fin2-em2mf Femke is a fighter too... she came back from that devastating fall in the mixed relay last year and led the ladies' team to the gold with an amazing sprint in the final metres over the Jamaicans. Should be interesting to watch.
@@efisgpr Learn your FACTS bro. They ran precisely 2 times against each other, both when Bol was still a NOVICE, with only a 2 or 3 years of experience.
So was Bol and her team. 🤣 There's no telling what Kersee is up to, so I think folks should slow their roll. Sydney did say in 2022 that they thought she'd be able to go lower than 50.68, so why not give it a shot this year while she's still young. She's got plenty of years left to run the open 400. And who knows, maybe last season in the open 400 was just part of Kersee's overall plan to improve her speed to see how low she could take the 400mH record.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RUN SYDNEY RUN. The best ever. Praying for you. God made you to glorify Him and you are doing It. Bol is about to experience reality.!!!
I believe Sydney can run a low 48 for the 400 which makes her nearly untouchable. If she returns to her top form, she will be as dominant as ever. Go Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Europe, Femke Bol is considered the person to beat. Consider, however, Syd has been dominant for going on five years in the open and hurdles. Phenomenal. She obviously is not getting back in unless she thinks she can win. Would be epic to see McLaughlin, Bol, and Muhammad on the track in the final.
The problem is, you have to enter a race for people to be able to beat them. McLaughlin's long absence has meant that Bol has been de facto the woman to beat, simply because she's clearly the best athlete that's been competing. I really don't understand so many people hyping Muhammad though - she was the best a few years ago, but she has been noticeably on the wind-down since Tokyo and didn't make the final in Budapest. Shamier Little has been comfortably the second best US women's 400mh runner the last two seasons.
Keep in mind that her 400 time isn’t even her in peak form. She only really ran a 300 and coasted the last 100. She’s got a lot left to give to this event.
Trust me, she knows something you don't. She's going to break the world record in the 400 and in the hurdles. She's putting down times in practice that are game changers.
I can concur. I ran professionally back in the day (U.S. Nationals 1996 for the Atlanta games semi finals 100m got dusted haha). I still compete as a 52 year old man, and still have connections in the “pro” world. My friend, who lives out in Cali, told me Sydney is doing a lot of 500 work, consistently hitting 36-37 seconds for 300, 12 for the next 100, and 12 for the last 100. They are training for this record for sure. From the sounds of those intervals, Bobby is setting the stage for rounds. He wants her at that for the rounds so it won’t stress her out and it’s easy, then race time hit mid 33 for the 300 and 11.3-11.5 for the last. That’s what it sounds like to me
@@Keepdapocket VERY interesting. Only I think I am missing something: mid 33 (say: 33.5) + 11.3 for the last 100 makes 44.8 in total. Are you telling us that mr Kersee wants mrs McLaughlin to drop the famous "unbeatable" WR from 47.60 to 44.8? Clearly there must be a typo somewhere? Or am I misunderstanding something?
@@rientsdijkstra4266I had the same thought. 45 flat definitely isn’t happening. I’m also interested in the description of the 500s. Basically she’s just running even-paced 60 seconds? That means she’s running 48.0 with essentially zero lactic at the end so she doesn’t slow down for the final 100m. I mean, Sydney is Sydney, so I wouldn’t totally put it past her, but that’s definitely fishy.
I love how humble Sydney is. At 24 years old, she's still a kid...a very mature "kid". I hope, for us all, that she will be able to grace the tracks with her presence for many, many years and continues to set new records and standards.
I love them both - Sydney & Mahamood. Both great athletes who give it their shot. Both elegent & respectful off the track. Both not show offs and no full of themselves ❤❤
That's where Mclaughlin suppose to be I DONT KNOW WHO WOULD ADVISE HER NOT TO GET MORE TITLES in 400m hurdles for that would make it so hard for someone els to surpass her ... ... remember it's not world record alone which make you great ... ... and femke bol is on the big jump level.
one thing about Bol is that she never ran a 400 meter flat (outdoor) while not being in intense training meanwhile, the PB you show in this video is het indoor PB and WR. normally everyone runs significantly faster outdoor, but since Bol never ran it while well rested i believe its safe to say her outdoor PB would also be under 49 if she ever did run it well rested. i say this because her indoor PB is already 0.17 sec away from a 48 seconds 400m flat. so my conclusion is that its not really an edge like you say for mclaughlin over bol, cuz if you reason like that you could also make a list of indoor 400 meters and their outdoor 400 meter hurdles list, in that case bol would have a huge edge on the competition. unless im wrong in saying an indoor PB of 49,17 would for sure mean a sub 49 outdoor.
@@redshift86 well the last world championships she fell on the mixed relays (early on in the WC) and her 400 meter in the women 4x400 the final was already her 7th 400 meter in one week, but it was a 48.7 split yes, tho she said afterwards she wasnt really fresh anymore after so many races. so i think she could reach faster splits. i think this weekend or the weekend after there is a relay competition she will compete in to qualify for the olympics, so lets see what time she can run there.
You're right that Bol hasn't run a properly trained and tapered open 400 outdoors, and she'd probably go sub-49 if she did. But I watched all of Syd's 400s last season (not hard, I think she only ran three events) and outside of her weird experiment with bad pacing against Paulino, she wasn't pressed at all. Safe to say she has way more in the tank.
I know it's not running related, but she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen... plus amazingly talented! How she in not sponsored by everything blows my mind!
MEH. I have high hopes for Britton Wilson (depending on what she runs). This is all interesting because the talk out of SYD's camp once was that the 400mh was behind her, and she was off to conquer new distances. Edwin Moses dominated 400mh. almost 10yrs undefeated. I'm not putting SYD in that camp, yet. I'm looking fwd to USAs.
Syd's so young ... maybe she's got an outside shot at Moses undefeated streak but just think how durable an athlete would need to be to go 10 years without a defeat. Not sure that's achievable today. Looking forward to watching her take on Bol.

Sydney's 400 hurdles world record is a second and a half faster than Femke's. That's not even close. If Sydney is in good form Femke will finish 15 meters behind, as usual.
Please learn to COUNT and LEARN your FACTS? mrs McLaughlins WR is 50.68, Femke Bol's PB is 51.45, that is a difference of 0.77 of a second, NOT 1.5 seconds. Furthermore Femke and mrs McLaughlin met on the track only TWICE, in 2021 and 2022. But Femke only started on the hurldes in 2019. Thus in 2021 Femke was still a NOVICE with only 2 (!) years of experience. But in 2023 in London, with only 4 years of experience and just after switching to the 14 stride pattern, Femke already ran that 51.45, which is the 3d time EVER, and which would have gotten GOLD in Tokio.

If she can somehow hit a new WR, she will be one of very few athletes in running sports to break a WR in a discipline 3 times consecutively. The think is, she has set such a ludicrous bar for herself it may never happen. 50.68 is really that incredible. I think on a perfect day while hitting peak at the peak of her career, she could run a ~50.25 400m hurdle, but who knows? I didn't think it was possible for her to go from 51s directly to the WR either. Will she somehow blow all our minds again and break 50 in a 400m hurdles? I doubt it, but its sure exciting not knowing what she is capable of...
You mean like Bol did over the last 15 months... But you are right that that 50.68 is hard to surpas, even for McLauglin herself. Her second best time is 51.41.

Sydney has competed the 4×100m dash called Formula Kersee and received second 🥈 place with the top seed international ( three were NCAA champions except for Dina Asher Smith: names were Julien Alfred, Ireland and Jamaican sprinters) and Formula Keree's team time was 12:93 to 12:03 so if she is ready to compete now for the 400m dash and 400m hurdles than her coaches, doctors and support team of family and friends think 🤔 that she is READY to punch her ticket to Park for the Olympics and represent USA and injury is no joke; she must be injury free: little Muhammad was injured and had COVID-19 and she is making progress also so US track and field trials are going to be INSANE and I can't wait but Los Angeles is just another practice to begin her quest for the Paris Olympics and she is probably working on consistency and being injured free (healthy) and I don't think 🤔 that she would be doing her best time yet: I think 🤔 that it is gradual! Thanks for sharing though!!!
True, but Femke's current level is a step below where Sydney has already been. What makes it really interesting as Bol continues to improve this season is whether Sydney can get back to her 2022 form (or better) because it will likely take a new WR to win in Paris.
You must stay sharp..its going to be a huge challenge for her this olympics. I'm pulling for her , but I csn forsee her getting 2nd to Bol. When u don't race you can put yourself a risk for injury or being off a bit
While I'd love to see her go sub 50 with the hurdles, would need to know how her training has been since she left the scene. She's taken her time down more than a 1.5 seconds in 3 years which seems gargantuan, but perhaps women's times are more challengeable in the 400 hurdles when she came into the sport. Another 0.7 seems like a lot at this level.
Does this mean everyone will finally stop acting like Femke Bol invented sliced bread? People have been acting like they didn't notice that whatever Bol's fastest time is - Sydney's fastest time is a half second ore more faster. Bol would still be running 15 steps between hurdles if Bobby Kersee hadn't changed Sydney to 14. And Bol didn't even thank him for the tip on how to run the hurdles faster. 🤣
Finally, someone with the truth about Bol and she did copy Sydney's change from 15 to 14 steps. Please check Sydney's 50.68 WR race. Bol is barely in the same frame because she was not any competition for Sydney and still will be just too slow.
I saw the 2022 race. It was epic! I think its a shame that we do not see the track and field athletes better covered over the years. I would rather see though how close to the WR she can get at the 400 meters. Due to the absence i think she will be struggling to beat Fenke Bol. I cant see here coming close to her WR time. Maybe if she is lucky its still good enough to win Gold.
This proves my theory that depending in how flawless your hurdles technique is, your 400 flat time will be an average 1.8seconds quicker than your hurdles time. If Femke really is in the shape people are hyping her to be in, then could she break 50.68? I don't know
Femke LOVES competing and has said so many times, hoping that she can run against the best -- as she invites the opportunities. She will keep running no matter what, and maintain a busy schedule unlike SYD.
i also dont know, but what i do know is that there is big room for improvement. her flat 400 speed is higher than last season seeing her indoor 400 meter times and compare them with last years. and in addition to that, she only started her 14 step racing last season, so it was by far going perfect in last years hurdles races (eventho she didnt lose any race). now the question just is how much that improvement can be in time gained, but her PB is only like 0.6 sec away from that time.
@@Astro2024 My point is that Bobby K stays controlling SYD's schedule, and selects where she runs (EUG) and they turn into rare occasions. BOL will keep running, competing and collect her accolades. The world turns, SYD or not.

Hence why I don't think it's fat fetched for Femke to get close to or challenge that world record. Like you said.... She's learning a new race dynamic. I love it. She took time off to work on increasing her flat speed now she will be able to re-work that into the hurdles. You know you can’t just increase your speed incrementally in hurdles without messing up your step timing and reworking that. I think this has been the plan all along… world record breaking 400 m hurdles and beating Bol at the Olympics.
Bol doesn’t have an outdoor 400 flat record, the 49,17 is indoor. So if you compare, do it right.
She is the best to ever do it!
Sydney is not only a talented runner, she is an all-around lovely lady.
We all want her to run both the hurdles and the 400m, both against Femke Bol! Now that would be one hell of an Olympic show! Go Sydney! 😀

OK....? I've seen all their races.
You're wrong and delusional.
It’s nearly certain that she WON’T run in both the 400m & the 400h since it would tire her out considerably and reduce her chances of a gold
medal in either.
I’d give Femke Bol 50-50 odds of beating Sydney for the following reasons:
1. Femke is a few months younger that Sydney and hasn’t reached her peak yet.
2. She started running the 400h at an older age than Sydney and is still improving her technique (just recently running 14 steps per hurdle instead of 15)
3. Femke has also been improving her speed & stamina (she set and twice broke her own indoor record in the 400m 49.16)
No doubt these athletes are great.
Wow Brillant, Femke and Sydney, what a clash, surely a world record on the cards.

Sydney will rule
I was hoping Sydney would opt for the regular 400 meter instead of the hurdle race...
Femk Bol, Mason Dossett and Kennedy Smith are going to be world championship in the hurdles🙂😎🥳 Look them up
So was Bol and her team.
She owns Fem. I would prefer to see her race against those who can beat her. I think it would push her to be better.
@mikeacerbo Femke is the 2nd fastest all time. There is no one else that is capable of beating Sydney. It's her or no one.

I was hoping to see her in 400
Will she do both? I know she said no, but she also said she wouldn't be hurdling in the Olympics previously.
very exciting stuff - looking forward to the Paris competition!
It's not a competition when Sydney is there; it's a coronation.
Cant wait for Femke and Sydney to meet
La will be her vs Anna Cockrell and Mohammed
Syd can run a sub 53 in her 1st race back
McLaughlin vs Boll should be epic as hell, but I hope she will return to flat 400m after that.
Keep in mind that her 400 time isn’t even her in peak form. She only really ran a 300 and coasted the last 100. She’s got a lot left to give to this event.
McLaughlin vs Bol-------------Race of the year! TV viewing at historical high.
Very well could be!
Syd will not even be challenged by Bol.....AS ALWAYS.
Trust me, she knows something you don't. She's going to break the world record in the 400 and in the hurdles. She's putting down times in practice that are game changers.
Really?
That’s what it sounds like to me
@@Keepdapocket
She Is set to get double 🥇 and break that 47.6 as well.
49.6 repeat Olympic goal world goal
I know that Femke has been doing very well over 2023, still 49.6 seems a bit overly optimistic!
She will dominate and run a sub 50.5 400 meter hurdle race.

I wouldn't care if she was kayaking, I'm tuning in!!!
Excited about it!
I get amused when people mention Bol next to SM. SM is going sub 50 in the hurdles
And Bol is going further below the 50...
Idk if Sidney's 48.74 gives her the edge too much, Femke's 49.17 was run indoors. Im sure if she ran the 400m outdoors she'd also go 48.
She bout to smoke bol man 😂😂
Not sure where you've been, probably as absent as Sydney has been with competing :)
Never, it will be the opposite. Femke to win easily. Maybe Sydney third, ? If she turns up. Roy b, CapeTown south africa 🇿🇦
one thing about Bol is that she never ran a 400 meter flat (outdoor) while not being in intense training meanwhile, the PB you show in this video is het indoor PB and WR. normally everyone runs significantly faster outdoor, but since Bol never ran it while well rested i believe its safe to say her outdoor PB would also be under 49 if she ever did run it well rested. i say this because her indoor PB is already 0.17 sec away from a 48 seconds 400m flat. so my conclusion is that its not really an edge like you say for mclaughlin over bol, cuz if you reason like that you could also make a list of indoor 400 meters and their outdoor 400 meter hurdles list, in that case bol would have a huge edge on the competition. unless im wrong in saying an indoor PB of 49,17 would for sure mean a sub 49 outdoor.
Also, doesn't Bol have some crazy record on relay?
@@redshift86 well the last world championships she fell on the mixed relays (early on in the WC) and her 400 meter in the women 4x400 the final was already her 7th 400 meter in one week, but it was a 48.7 split yes, tho she said afterwards she wasnt really fresh anymore after so many races. so i think she could reach faster splits. i think this weekend or the weekend after there is a relay competition she will compete in to qualify for the olympics, so lets see what time she can run there.

She has never even been a challenge for Sydney.

I'm American and I already biased and I only cheered and routed for my own country USA!!! Amazing Lady.
When will you do a video on Drew Griffith of Butler who is doing amazing things in HS? He just ran a 4 flat full mile in track.
I think Femke takes it
Dang! I thought from the title that she had run another race.
Maybe the pivot to the 400 was all just training to get sub 50 in the 400 hurtles all along...

Bol is barely in the same frame because she was not any competition for Sydney and still will be just too slow.
Amazing..

As we look closer to the Olympics, we may see a 49.66 in the hurdles…
This proves my theory that depending in how flawless your hurdles technique is, your 400 flat time will be an average 1.8seconds quicker than your hurdles time.
If Femke really is in the shape people are hyping her to be in, then could she break 50.68? I don't know
Femke LOVES competing and has said so many times, hoping that she can run against the best -- as she invites the opportunities. She will keep running no matter what, and maintain a busy schedule unlike SYD.
@@henrihelvetica5835 a busy schedule means nothing if she can't beat syd
i also dont know, but what i do know is that there is big room for improvement. her flat 400 speed is higher than last season seeing her indoor 400 meter times and compare them with last years. and in addition to that, she only started her 14 step racing last season, so it was by far going perfect in last years hurdles races (eventho she didnt lose any race). now the question just is how much that improvement can be in time gained, but her PB is only like 0.6 sec away from that time.
@@Astro2024 My point is that Bobby K stays controlling SYD's schedule, and selects where she runs (EUG) and they turn into rare occasions. BOL will keep running, competing and collect her accolades. The world turns, SYD or not.
@@joowsty agreed. And I'm about to say something I was crucified for last year.
The 400 hurdles is still an event that's being assessed in terms of technique. It's very technical in the sense that if a new race model is developed, it's easy for athletes to remove Chunks from their times. Hence why I don't think it's fat fetched for Femke to get close to or challenge that world record. Like you said.... She's learning a new race dynamic.
Sydney's world record is the true world record because Athletes from the past didn't have the flat speed or their technique was a little off. I think it's more towards the speed issue. I mean if 2019 Miller Uibo had Sydney's hurdling skills the WR would be 50.1
What is left for her to prove in the hurdles? I think everyone wants to see her go after the 400m WR.
