I think the biggest takeaway from this video is that sustainability is not only an ethical responsibility, it also just makes good business sense. A ton of the sustainability practices highlighted in this video seem like very sound investments in the future of the tannery.

DISCLAIMER: The tannery didn't pay me money for this video, but they did fly me down to Mexico and get me a hotel so I could do this leather workshop with them (in another video: th-cam.com/video/HxRX8bbzKBM/w-d-xo.html), so it's *kind of* sponsored, like they got me to Mexico. So I put the "sponsored" tag on this just to be safe.

Hey Nick, great to see a video highlighting the environmental aspects of the industry! It has long been a thesis of mine that high quality leather footwear has an implicit environmental benefit, and to see how modern tanneries are seeking to improve this outcome is very refreshing. I hope that this is the first of many videos focussing on sustainability! My favourite tannery of all time; J and FJ Baker, also have a strong environmental track record, and could be another really interesting tannery to check out! Thanks for all your work from another Aussie expat in the Americas!

Perhaps could you do a video on different kinds of leather and how to chose what’s best? Both for tanning processes (vegetable/chrome/oil/etc.) and animals (calf/yearling/moose/bison/sheep/kangaroo/kudu/etc.)

Nice video, Nick! Appreciate the insight into their ops/ sustainability initiatives. Did you happen to discuss their business volume and implications of COVID-19 on their supply chain activities? Curious to know how serious of an impact they’ve felt since February 2020.

Wow, in that short amount of time you managed to convince me that tanneries can do better. Considering the environmental doomsday report just came out today, we need every one to get on board with better practices if we hope to survive.

Mexico doesn't get the credit it deserves for leather goods. I used to get all my holster rigs made in Juarez, superb quality!!! Just aint worth catching the "bullet flu" to go over there now.

No, Bridge of Weir leather tannery is (probably) the most environmentally sustainable.
