Yeah, this to me was the definitive line-up. It kinda boggles me how this album isn't held in high esteem by a lot of DragonForce fans, because looking back across the discography I think it's one of their strongest efforts. Every member was at the top of their game and firing on all cylinders, that's the only way you really CAN make an album as overwrought and bombastic as this. If you go through track-by-track and identify weak links that you would want to just skip, there really aren't any for me. MAYBE Heartbreak Armageddon, but only because I want to get to The Last Journey Home, which is one of my favourite DragonForce tracks.
Yeah they were clearly bolstered by the success of TTFaF, and wanted to make an album that took things even further than IR, to get even more success (which didn't exactly happen, but still resulted in an amazing album)
Inside the Winter Storm and Last Journey Home are some of DragonForce's best work. As well as My Spirit Will Go On which I think was on Sonic Firestorm and Body Breakdown which I believe was on Inhuman Rampage?
WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT VADIM'S WORK?! Just remember who composed and wrote Storming the Burning Fields, one of the most talented metal songs this band has ever produced!

it sounded like shit lmao. and the part they went on to record is probably their best instrumental section across their whole discography, so there's that.
Well...dragonforce songs are pretty tuff to sing, imagine singing 20 songs, 3 or 2 days a week, and combine that with heavy drinking and smoking. I think that took it's toll on zp voice. And the guys (especially herman) didn't get that.
@@bensroom But tbh, they sounded like shit at the end of the Ultra Beatdown tour because of ZP. They even tuned down for him which basically killed the songs. That's coming from someone who thinks this was their best album and line-up. But I'm glad that they went back to standard tuning with Marc. ZP never grew up, I guess. He should have taken it more seriously

Zippy has a way better sounding singing voice, also has way more charisma. But I would say Marc is more technically proficient with his vocals. Like you rarely see Marc majorly fuck up and is consistently great, Zippy was very inconsistent his lows were really rough but I will say when he was on his A game he was near god tier. Plus I miss how good Zippy's somber vocals were the ballads aren't the same without him.

Agreed 100%
Octavers are just cool. I love the breakdown riff of Inside The Winter Storm where they use them, it's so epic
This was the OG lineup. Some of the best songs they put out IMO.
I definitely think Marc and Gee are upgrades.

Every motion of every joint of Vadim commands such respect and at the same time are unable to be taken seriously.
Vadim is one of the most gifted pianists I've seen in a long time. Even on this album (Which wasn't the greatest) he showed he's extremely talented.
Hey Ultra Beatdown almost got them a grammy. Not trying to be a douche

its been 10 years since the album started. Time flies so fast.

The last journey home is one of their best songs on Ultra beatdown. Love the studio work here on that beautiful song. ❤
The "hot damn! Curse" ZP and Dave said that and both left the band!

Also Vadim said it before ZP, and Vadim left too. Man, 100% curse confirmed

that version of reasons to live actually sounds better than the one we got in the album

That techno part did sound like shitty club music though. He left because he wasn't being considered during the creative processes of songwriting.

2022 and I'm here
Anyone feel ZP's pre-pro natural vocals here sound better than the vocals on the final album? Overproduction fucked ZP's vocals on this album.
I agree that ZP's pre-pro vocals sounded better, but I still loved his vocals on the album nonetheless.
The OG Dragonforce bring back ZP,Dave and vadim and Fred
What is the name of the instrument the vadim uses in reasons to live at the beggining
nuke boy 920 I think there is a type of theremin
This was the best line up. They are still great, but it seems like the band is starting to fall apart.
Agreed! It’s just not the same with ZPs on stage presence and mackintosh or Fred or vadim.
I agree. They were having fun as a band, now they seem kinda bored on stage
They are actually very productive right now as a band, with all the live streams and youtube videos etc. They seem to be having a lot of fun actually.
