There's a lot of help in your comments. I did a little swatch of what I think it is and it's kind of like the linen stich. Someone in the comments said it looked like the modified linen. They could be right. My swatch didn't look exactly the same, but it could be a difference in yarn type, etc. It also could just be someone learned how to make this stitch from their grandma and it has no official name.
I do believe this is 💯% correct. Only my grandmother called it "footprints" or "footprints in the sand". I actually remember her teaching me this. If she were still with us she would have been the first person to let us know what it was. She could crochet the most beautiful items. My favorite was the thread crochet extravagant wedding dresses for my Barbies. Unfortunately I lost everything in a house fire almost twenty years ago. I miss her dearly. ❤
You are such a kind, generous woman! I appreciate you supporting Glenda and Cody in a way that I can't. I am always happy to see you here as you are a good person. MaryAnne
O This sent me back to my young days. I made many of these doilies years old, tablecloths etc. a lot of these projects have gone out of style. I got a craft magazine every month called The Workbasket which featured all kinds of things for crochet. My grandmother started the prescription in the 1940’s and I continued. I still have them tucked away. Being 82, I still enjoy this craft. Love your videos.
It breaks my heart to see someone’s hard work being sold for $1. 😢 I have a doily my great grandmother made that’s just priceless to me. I’ll try to post it on the FB page. Thanks Glenda! ❤
THIS IS A FABULOUS HISTORICAL TEACHING OF GORGEOUS HANDWORK .I COLLECT OR SAVE THE ONES I FIND TO KEEP THEM FROM THE TRASH BECAUSE NOWADAYS ITS NOT POPULAR TO HAVE FUSSY DECOR....I JUST LOVE ALL OF THEM❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
If only more people appreciated the work that went into those crochet and needle work from the past. Homemakers took pride in their homes and how pretty those made their furniture and rooms. I ❤️ love them.😊
I feel so blessed finding your channel. LOL I also Love Pink and Pastel colors. I am an only child, my mom didn't craft but my aunt did, so she taught me at the age of 3, yes 3 years old. I am 62 this year, my aunt passed away last October. I was able to live a quarter mile from her this past 8 years. I would put your channel on when she came over and I had bought and helped her learn to watch you on a Kindle Fire. She absolutely loved your channel as do I...And what an extra added blessing to watch Cody with you. I have to tell you that you make my day. I live in a 14 room farm home, along with 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 turkeys, 10 hens and 1 rooster, LOL and a large room FULL of yarn, NO KIDDING! If Heaven is better than this, what a fabulous eternity it will be. Love to you and Cody and all your subscribers, stay safe🧶💕
Some of those dollies remind me of the ones my mother and grandmother crocheted many years ago. I still have the double bed sized crocheted bed spread the my mother made when she was young (and I'm 83 years old). Thank you for the latest video, Glenda. Roz Bayard
I've been told that my Nani (mom's mom)made doilies. Though I never saw her crochet them, nor did I see them in her house. But I would definitely (& have)save the roses from damaged beyond repair doilies. I work at an antique mall and one dealer in particular has given me {no two dealers} doilies that were too beyond selling. I haven't framed them yet, but I've used them bc they're SO pretty-in all but one spot.😊 Thanks for letting us see what you bought 😁!
That's a Fantastic idea!!!!! Glenda is a wonderful teacher. 3 years ago I made my aunt a pineapple shawl as a prayer shawl when her close sister, my other aunt, had passed away. Her and my dad were the only ones left from a family of 16. She taught me to crochet 59 years ago. She passed away last October and I have her shawl draped over my comfy rocker I crochet in everyday. When I was young I stayed with her and my cousins many times as my mom was very ill with other pregnancies, and I grew up an only child, so when i was with my aunt we use to go outside and find cool stones and feathers, especially the blue jays and cardinal, Oriol feathers. But two days ago I found a blue jay feather on the floor in the room I have my comfy rocker.... I'm sure she watches over me, no one else would know about the feathers but my cousins. The Pineapple stitch is vintage, and had special meaning years and years ago.
I was just given a huge bag full of thread for crocheting. I just used a DK 3 weight for the first time! I’ve only used 4-6 weight yarns. But I’ve made a playlist for doilies for when I’m brave enough to try it 😊
The idea of adding the pink roses to the white doily was very nice. I have no clue what the stitch is. Hope your back feels better really soon. 🙏🏻 Have a wonderful day 💖
Glenda, the sixth doilie you showed that has a round center and gradually becomes a square with clusters in the corners is the Cathedral Window pattern. There is a vintage tablecloth pattern published in Workbasket way back in either the late 40's or early 50's called Cathedral Window. I'm currently making that tablecloth so I recognized it. Very lovely. I'm not sure about the baby afghan pattern. It looks familiar like I've seen it in a vintage pattern book.
You have inspired me so many times. I am making a blanket with Lion brand fair isle yarn. Your examples triggered me to try making an afghan with alternating solid strips. Thank you for your great explanation of how to adapt patterns to yarn
Oh, Glenda, I pray that your back is better soon! I loved it when you said that you were in your pj's as sometimes I am still in my pj's when I watch one of your videos. I hope that you are able to figure out that stitch, I would love for you to make a baby blanket using it. 💕 MaryAnne
I could see having a blanket or sweat shirt, sweater, or other decor/wearable add some crochet pieces, applique the crochet onto a base. Or possibly connect them into one making a crazy table topper, make it pop, putting solid fabric behind.
I love seeing all pf the doilies. My mom used to crochet lacey trim on our (3 girls)anklets. She had more patience than I have with thread crocheting 😊
I’d keep them original. Someone put so much time and love in every stitch. Love the thread work. Thank you for sharing ❤ I appreciate all the time and effort you and Cody puts into being us these free tutorials. Your tutorials are so easy to follow. You are an excellent teacher. I’m enjoying seeing you and Cody. He’s doing a fantastic job❤❤❤
Such beautiful doilies Glenda, my Mother crocheted too many to count. The green set would be for dressers, my Mother crocheted the exact same set in red and white instead of green and white. She had doilies on every surface, I still have some of them and scatter them around. I think framing them is an excellent idea, gives me something to do to preserve them. I don't know what the afghan stitch is but it's very pretty. Praying that your back will get better Glenda!🙏🙏
So I was talking to an older woman about crochet and she said that years ago women would just start crocheting and create their own pattern as they would go along. Some of these motifs reminded me of this story!
Reminds me of the doiiies that were in almost everyone's home. On the sofa, end and cocktail tables. Mantle and dining table. Many were starched and formed a ruffled edge.
Hi Glenda 😊 I remember my grandma had doilies on her chairs and sofa. That brought back some good memories for me. Sorry I didn't recognize the stitch in the blanket. Sending healing prayers your way, hope your back feels better soon! ❤️🙏
This was fun. Those doilies and blankets are so beautiful. My grandmother used to do beautiful thread Dollies, like that so tiny I can't imagine, makes me a little sad, somebody put all that work into them, and they're being sold for a dollar.
My Mother had many doilies but she didn't crochet them. I believe they were all manufactured purchases. When she passed in 2019, I took a number of them & put them into picture frames then gave one to each of my 6 Siblings & to my daughter & son as Christmas gifts that year to remember her by. I did up a few for myself & display them proudly in my Craftroom now. My point is, if you can't figure out the stitchwork but still love the doilies, make them art for your walls or as gifts for someone who would appreciate them. Thanks, Glenda for all you do & for rescuing these treasures. 🤍
I would absolutely frame the doilies with a dark background to highlight the lace work. That blankets stitch is definitely different. I think they also used a thicker weight yarn (maybe 5) with a smaller hook to create a fluffy squishy look. I’m looking forward to any updates on the blanket!
Great finds! I “rescue” crocheted items from sales whenever I see them. I imagine all the love and many hours that some person put into crocheting these things. It’s a sin and a shame to see them in a thrift shop for mere Pennies! So I take them home and love them.
I miss crocheting doilies and little decorative edging. I still have one precious piece from my hope chest made my one of the ladies who taught me to crochet. It is a 14" diameter table centerpiece with a yellow rose center, we are in Texas. I made hundreds of doilies 50-60 years ago. A few my daughters still have but no one uses them like we used to have to cover and protect furniture. I just love them.
I would love to know too😢. It just brings back my Gma❤. She could shay 7 sheets to the wind, talking on the phone, watching TV, smokin cigarettes, yellin at us "brats" ALL AT THE SAME TIME ❤️. I miss her terribly. She'd know for certain what that stitch is, and have one done in 10 mins😂. She taught me the base chain at Christmas when I was 5-6, and then life got in the way😢. All else, I learned by doing and undoing 😂
Doilies are so pretty. I have some made by way back family and I don't use them. It's not my style. But I appreciate the work that went into them and the family connection.
I framed a few things my mother and grandmother embroidry . Had an old stained table cloth use the lace as a border in a picture as my great aunt did thread work, as well some dollies make beautiful dream catchers. I cannot toss things out, if created by somes hands I just do not have the heart.
I would not tear that apart. That is how I learned to craft is just by turning and looking at things until I figure it out. Never tear out something so nice. It's beautiful. It almost looked like to me the pattern goes the opposite way of how you showed it.
My mother used to make thread dollies. They were ruffled and she would starch and iron them. They were beautiful. I could never do that. My mother passed away at the age of 101.
Wouldn’t it be interesting to incorporate small motifs in a project like a scarf, hat, bag, shawl, etc. I can also see something using the larger dollies, a bit of lacy work incorporated into something with a mixture of yarn types. Think of a triangle shawl with a doily, centered, a group of motifs leading to the center point and perhaps at each end point. Could be stunning. Maybe a challenge for crocheters to see what they can come up with.
If I had a couple of those doilies, I would frame them and hang them on the wall in my crochet room. I can’t help you out with the stitch of the baby blanket. But it looks cute.😊🧶🧶
That pattern has me puzzled also, I'd probably have to take some of if apart to figure it out. But it's a beautiful pattern. Such pretty doilies, they would look pretty framed and hung up. I just Love homemade doilies all that intricut work. Thanks for sharing, Blessings 💕
Hi Glenda. I liked so many of those doilies & motifs you showed us today. Sorry, I don't recognize the pattern on that baby blanket. Hope your back is feeling better tomorrow. ❤️
Chat GPT gave me this answer which isn't probably helpful but i only took a picture of the TV screen. The stitch you’re describing is commonly referred to as the "V-stitch variation" or a "mesh stitch variation", depending on its specific application. This pattern alternates between double crochet (dc), chain (ch), single crochet (sc), and another chain, creating a balanced open texture with slight variations in height. It's often used for lacy or lightly textured projects.
Hi Glenda. Some Nice doillies you found. I use to make them also, maaany years ago. That baby blanket has a beautyful stitchpatern. I try to look if I can find it. Good luck and hope someone can help you. ❤
I also like to sew. I would use some of the dollies, or parts of them, as embellishments on sewing projects. I may need to cut them, but because i also crochet with thread, I would be very mindful & respectful of the skill & mega amounts of hours that were put into these vintage doilies. I believe they were made to be enjoyed & admired, much like my wearable art garments. My Grandma & Mom, both living thru the Depression taught me to use & reuse & upcycle before it was called that. So I believe IF I cut a handmade doilie for one of my garments, it would be gaining a 2nd life. Oh, I'd deffinetly stitch those pink roses on one side of a jacket's lapel. They are gorgeous.
Hey Glenda, great finds!! Instead of takingout the stitches onthe blanket, you might just get some scrap yarn n a hook n start at the beginning recreating the stitches youve seen there. Wont ruin the blanket if you dont figure it out!! Looks like basic stitches were used to make ea "block section".... Hoping your back heals quickly!! I think weve all had that n it is no fun!!! Keep your legs elevated. Vicks helps with thiskind of thing. A very thin layer!! N put a patch of flannel fabric over it!! Okd fashioned remedy!! Lol.
Glenda take a picture of that afghand and then perhaps Cody can help you, You can put it in Google and it will look for anything that looks like that and you might be able to figure it out from there. There may be a pattern for sale or free. Or take a picture and you have my email email to me and I can do that for you

Thread work is my first love . Started in 1973 and will continue until lunch time on the day of my funera.
THERE REALLY BEAUTIFUL
My mother used thread to crochet doilies and I have so many of the same dollies you have shown. I just love them so much. Great video.

Attach all the doills to make a table cloth i think would be so creative and pretty
Wow it's beautiful. I have no idea about the baby blanket but keep me updated on the blanket. Ty
Pretty doilies. I had family friends with doilies on things too. Good memories.

I like your idea of framing beautiful doilies and also repurposing the flowers…would make a gorgeous pillow top!

My mother used to make thread dollies. They were ruffled and she would starch and iron them. They were beautiful. I could never do that. My mother passed away at the age of 101.

I've done a stitch similar..it a C2C moss stitch.. I'll send picture to f/b

Oh my gosh, I just seen this stitch. Jewels and Jones TH-cam channel. 2 days ago!!!!! It’s a one row repeat
Do you have the link
The pansy pattern is one I love. I have multiple doilies in my house with them as edging.
Fiber Spider has the stepping stones stitch.
It's not the same stitch. I watched fiber spider do the stepping stones stitch.
I used some doilies my great grandmother crocheted on a canvas. I layered several of them and then added a wooden S for her initial.
I like the idea of framing them, I think I might do that! I hope your back gets better quickly.
That pattern has me puzzled also, I'd probably have to take some of if apart to figure it out. But it's a beautiful pattern.
Such pretty doilies, they would look pretty framed and hung up. I just Love homemade doilies all that intricut work.

Hi Glenda.
I liked so many of those doilies & motifs you showed us today. Sorry, I don't recognize the pattern on that baby blanket. Hope your back is feeling better tomorrow. ❤️
I love to buy crocheted items from the thrift stores and yard sales to.
Hay there you can Google most crochet stitches and it will give you the name plus a free pattern.
It’s a filet double crochet moss stitch. I forget the name. I’m sure I’ll remember it after and send you an email. But I’ve done that style before.
🧶
I like everything you bought. I would use the doily like it is. But make a table runner that I would be able to use the Rose's for.
Hi Glenda. Some Nice doillies you found. I use to make them also, maaany years ago.

Lol.
Glenda, I can’t ever manage thread work. 🤦🏻♀️
Such beautiful doilies! You can also use a man's handkerchief to make them.. I would probably salvage what I could and embellish another
It’s the crocheted drop stitch.
Grandma please do a doily tutorial thank u from Ontario Canada
NEXT MONTH IS MY DAUGHTER ROMA & MY BIRTHDAY...... OH HAVE YOU & CODY DID A YARN SWATCH WITH THE CHERRY BLOSSOM YARN....
There’s a Rapunzel Dishcloth pattern that looks pretty close to the mystery blanket pattern. Maybe it’s a variation of that ??
Glenda take a picture of that afghand and then perhaps Cody can help you, You can put it in Google and it will look for anything that looks like that and you might be able to figure it out from there. There may be a pattern for sale or free. Or take a picture and you have my email email to me and I can do that for you
It looks like a pattern from Vanna White book
The first one looked like it had red hearts in it. Hope you find out and do a tutorial on it.
❤❤🙏
It looks like the reverse blanket stitch.
Hi Glenda, could it be raised brick stitch?
🌻💖🙂
The pattern for the blanket looks like a modified linen stitch to me.
I did a little swatch with what I think is going on and it does work up similar to the linen stitch/moss stitch, but with dc. Good catch.
Could it be the Crinkle Stitch? Feel better soon.
Its not the crinkle stitch but sort of on the same lines but not the same
I saw a video where a lady bought lots of doilies and sewed them all together to make a curtain. Interesting but not for me.
