Rivonia trial: Fragments of Mandela defence speech | ARCHIVES

The Rivonia Trial took place in South Africa from Oct. 1963 to June 1964 and led to the imprisonment of Nelson Mandela and seven other accused, who were convicted of sabotage and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Nelson Mandela was one of the first accused to speak at the trial and gave a three-hour speech from the defendant's dock, in which he explained and defended the ANC's key political positions.
