Profiting from Terminal Sire EBVs at Thistleyhaugh: Sustainable Sheep Systems

  • In this video, Duncan Nelless explains how being involved in the RamCompare project has clearly demonstrated that differences in Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) between rams are clearly shown in their crossbred offspring's performance.
    The highest performing terminal sires on the project at Thistleyhaugh produced lambs that finished 15.6 days sooner than poorer performing sires on a system averaging only 108 days!
    What's more, with improved carcass weights of +0.35kg and carcass values of +£1.95 in top performing sires offspring, Duncan says selection using EBVs is a no brainer.
