Practical Indicators of Nutrition in the Milking Herd
It is possible to assess certain aspects of nutrition in the milking herd if you know the signs. This video covers some of the visual indicators you can use to identify issues with protein nutrition, suboptimal rumen health and acidosis. These indicators include looking at the manure, rumination behaviour and rumen fill, as well as cow condition and appearance which can be related to issues with feeding management and the housing environment.

Can make all the habitat you want in the rivers but what’s the point when they go out to sea they are just getting slaughtered by the seals yet nothing is said about that

Sounds like a disaster in the making. Be better sowing westerwolds straight after harvest, just grub it in stick some mustard and legumes in with it, ticks all the boxes

The best method of controlling rushes is to do something. All methods work to a greater or lesser extent you just have to get out there and do it.Also that type of land needs a bit of tlc and remember you will only control rushes not eliminate them.

I would love to see more fruit trees on farms and generally across the countryside in Scotland. Even if not on the scale of agri-forestry, but having some apples, pears, cherries or plums among the oak, rowan and birch of native forestry schemes, for example. The farmer could take advantage of fruit for home or local consumption with the windfall left for nature over the autumn and wintertime.
