Beautiful sounding bass. It seems to me that having a very hard and very even fingerboard is what contributes to this instrument's really consistent mwah.
Great video!!! Steve played so well and also explained in detail with examples what fretless is about. About Pedulla Bass no doubt are the best / amazing (sound and design).
After watching this video again I decided to get another. It's a fiery red one from 1985. The beauty is it is in perfect condidtion except the neck needed to be redone. Steve Shinn at Lays Guitar Shop did it for me using super glue of all things and it came out perfectly! It also plays really well. Thanks for the inspiration!
What a beauty... One of the best looking bases I've ever seen. Tone is also massive, moving. Do you have any recommendations for getting into 6 string territory, or atleast one key advice you'd give? Thank you.
Thank you. As far as a six string, I'd go try a few. They vary so much. String spacing is a big one. Lots of them at 16mm or 17.5mm. I like 18mm or 19mm. Makes a big difference in how they feel. I like the wider neck.
A beautiful bass,an absolut masterpiece. It is very special. It is definitly no beginner bass, for this price.(Or your parents spoiled your intrests?!?) Great sounding beast. It growls , it sings, and got much clear overtones, all i need from a frettles bass.
Great sound and beautiful playing. I'm curious to know a few details: were you playing thru an amp or straight to recorder? Do you remember the strings you were using on it? Thanks
Nice playing and I love that Pedulla sound! I had a Buzz but sold it in the mid 90's. I really miss it, especially after hearing yours. It really sings! I've never seen one without lines, was this custom made for you?
@@steve4765630 Man I was really sad to hear that he retired. You're lucky to have one. It's a masterpiece for sure! I love the sustain it has and it's so even all the way up the range. Alot of fretless basses have the notes die up high. Not with Pedulla. Someday I gotta find a hexabuzz like that for sale. Gonna be much harder to find now that Michael has stopped making them.
Why can't any of today's bass builders match the tone of the Pedullas?? The same woods are available, the same pickups are available, yet nothing today compares.
Mike was extremely particular and uncompromising. This is a guy who at the height of his success purposely downsized his company so that he could go back to building every single bass himself. And he didn't leave his company to any successor or apprentice because then it wouldn't be Pedulla. So that's the mindset that went into the basses. From there the custom voiced Bart pickups and preamps, proprietary truss rod, polyester coating over the entire bass, small but thick and heavy body, and weirdly strong neck make up the majority of the sound.
@@pCeLobster correct. I spoke to him several times and he felt like nobody would carry on with the quality of workmanship that he had built his reputation on. He's a great guy. I pray that he's still doing well.
The tone on this bass is just superb, out of the ordinary!
Thank you. I agree!
I have always wanted one of these beautiful instruments!
massive tone! i would love people doing more fretless builts with powerful sound like this
Thank you!

Very impressive video, great spec information & playing. I've subscribed
Nice.👍🏾
sounds wicked
Thank you!
One of my dream basses right there. Maybe I'll find one floating around out there in years to come.
It's such an amazing bass. Hard to find now ever since he retired.
Great video to demonstrate a beautiful bass!
Thanks!

Through a Markbass CMD121 with the phone microphone. D'Addario nickels. Thanks!
Amazing! Would you know the pickups model and it's position (distance from the bridge)?

Thanks! Yes, it was custom built for me. I love this bass! So sad he retired.
@@steve4765630The song I loved playing most is Weather Reports A Remark You Made. If you aren't familiar with it you should check it out.
Do you happen to know the model of the Bartolini pickups?
Not sure. They were made only for Pedulla.
This bass have any dots or any markers on it?
It has very small dots on the side for the standard 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.
How much was it?
I just found out that he retired. You'll have to find them on the used market.

There are some great builders out there, but I agree, nothing sounds like a Buzz Bass.

Nowadays there are tons of "boutique" bass luthiers, handcrafting instruments that sell for upwards of $5000. Do any of them sound like this?
Nice tone and great playing! Bass is extraordinary!
Thank you!
