Steven Wilson may be the most underated artist in the music industry, I agree, but he has the most devoted audience I've EVER seen and that explains a lot his success as a solo artist! His fanbase idolizes him and listen to everything he does with religious passion (Myself included!).
He has so many accessible songs in his catalogue, it’s an absolute disgrace that mainstream has not engaged with him. My wife who isn’t a proger loves certain songs and agrees he should be on the radio.
I've watched every single Steven Wilson interview available on TH-cam, however, this is the best. No question! I love that it's at a feature film running time in terms of length, and I feel this enables Steven to really explore thoughts, flesh out certain answers to questions and ponder ideas. Well done!! 💯

Yeah. I enjoyed Moore's treatment of Wilson better than Beato's. Beato actually resorted to name dropping in order to prop himself up in the conversation.
I don't know if Steven Wilson knows this, perhaps he does, but he truly is one of the most outstanding songwriters of our time. For me, he is a true genius. His eloquence when he speaks also manifests in his songwriting process and final product.
Here in Greece, when the song "blackfield" came out in 2004, it was played by the mainstream rock radio stations 3-4 times the whole day. Even now everyone recognizes its melody. Mr Steven, I think you miss something while valuating your success, but you inspire me more the way you think it is.
I'm also Greek! xD My beloved cousin played the Stars Die single for me back in 1998 while I was in University (I still try to convince her to sell me this CD, but until now, no luck, as expected). Here is a thought about gate openers: I am a huge music fan, I don’t care about genres, listen to everything from Coltrane to Beethoven, from Michael Manring to Led Zeppelin, from Pat Metheny to Andres Segovia, you get the idea. In the past 50 years of listening I have never come across Steven Wilson though - that is, until I stumbled upon Pariah here on TH-cam a few months ago. Ever since I have been literally devouring his music, trying to understand the albums and enjoying every second of the process. So I guess here’s a gate opener for you. Great interview btw, thank you so much!
I’ve been a Steven fan for over 15 years now and this is hands down the best interview he has given in his career. Admirations for the approach and choice of questions and overall manner of communication. Looking forward to that part two.
This man can give me chills just by speaking, he's incredible. I've seen almost any interview of Steven Wilson but this one might be my favourite ever, he seemed so engaged cause the questions were good and stimulating.
Love it @gianmarcoponente4609, Rob has done a recent Interview again with Steven! - It tops this one, let me know your thoughts? th-cam.com/video/khY7ICfIxmw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kUYspnnfVdEJ8WnR
I’m a massive SW fan and that’s how I found the interview. It was excellent, especially when comparing his integrity and success with other artists who “got away with it.” I’m also an entrepreneur that sold a company so I’ll be looking further at your podcast/channel. Thank you!
I think Steven is one of the most articulate people in the business. I have introduced people to his music who have never looked back. His attitude towards doing his thing a letting people decide is noble and, in the long run, a pretty savvy move. He has had along career and will still be around 20 years from now. As a parallel both Steve Hackett and Robyn Hitchcock have done the same thing and managed to sustain a very successful career. As a strange coincidence, two musicians with very little in common but both have similar views socially to Steve Wilson. I think the word is integrity.
Best Wilson's interview so far. Honest, raw, authentic, articulate, interesting, for me Wilson is a legend in his own right, and one of my favourite singers ever. And I own Blackwater Park (among the others) as I'm a huge Opeth fan, saw them live a few times. I have a lot to thank Steven Wilson for, honestly. Keep up the great work Steven, we love you!
I always think that Bjork and Radiohead are similar in that fact which SW makes about Radiohead, that they both manage to do the experimental and avant-garde and art rock right there in the middle of the mainstream Pop music world and pull it off to great effect, without being pretentious or contrived but with great integrity, skill and artistry...
Possibly the most interesting interview I' ve seen in the music industry. Humble and honest mentality from both sides. Great work Rob! Steven you are huge!
Steven should remember that he has the respect of the part of the music audience that is deeply rooted in the album culture and those that invest more time and energy into the understanding of what they are listening to.
I think this is something that happens to many musicians that fall under the "progressive" umbrella (Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford etc). They all want to be associated with pop stars and not with other dirty Prog bands.
Very interesting interview, very intelligent and very entertaining. It strikes me that the name of one of the most important bands in contemporary music such as Tool was not mentioned and that it was not recognized as one of the most independent and successful groups, at the same time; playing arenas all over the world. Will Tool be the band that Steven would be envying all this time?
I watched all of this interview and will watch it again, I'm just starting down the Steven Wilson rabbit hole and I'm loving the ride so far. Nice to have someone so down do earth and relatable.
Loved this interview, Rob. As a huge Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree fan it was great to have this insight into his life and his sentiments towards the world of music today, "content" culture, and his departure/reunion of Porcupine Tree. I couldn't help but nod in agreement with the calibre of questions you proposed as well as his answers and what he had to say. Bravo.
I just discovered Porcupine Tree 3 days ago lmao. Here I am listening to him catalogue/critique his entire 30 years creating music and being in the "industry" and I don't know much of it at all, but some has just gotten me hooked. To Mr. Wilson: I'm the guy blasting metal music out my car window :) My brothers and I all! Also, I wonder what Steven thinks of Tobias/Ghost when he was speaking about modern rock artists having a difficult time.
Rob, that was an outstanding interview. I learned so much more about Steven Wilson, his approach to music, and his music career. And be sure you do that follow-up interview with Steven in the next few months. Thank you!
I'm an old fan of porcupine tree, from first song that I heard " stop swimming " ( atmosphere which steven have left many years ago, depressing you can call it ) to day. I heard older albums, I heard signify, I heard "up the downstairs", I cried with " small fish " , anyway I'm a fan I don't want bother you with details, but u should know I'm an Iranian fan and living in Tehran. I should tell u, steven wilson is one of the remaining artists that cares only about music itself, one of the few remaining. u can see tons of musicians that only care about marketing and social medias feed back. Steven talked really honestly in your interview which I like about him, and one of the reasons why I choosed him as one of my composers. but I think he missed some things. I know steven better than his self, i followed him for atleast 20, I have a diary where i talk only with Steve. I can defy Steven's feelings and personal life from his career, why he was being labeled " depressing " in porcupine tree once? ( porcupine tree new album is completely different from that period), why he really ignored pt for 10 year?. As matter of fact steven Wilson left pt behind exactly when Mike portnoy left dream theater and I told my brother in those days " ithink they are alike emotionally", cause i can feel it .But we must talk about it. Look there are 5 gods in music for me , dream theater, tool porcupine tree, ozric tentacles and John petroci. It means i love what ever they make? No, i love 90 percent of their songs. I'm telling you all of these only to make it clear that I'm not a dogmatic fan, and it's my main target: I like these artistic points of steven wilson, I love that he doesn't care about fans sometimes. I have been a sharp critic for him sometimes, I told him that I don't like some covers he did, I told him I don't like how " future bites " sounds, I like my old steven... but suddenly I told to my self : is he my slave ? Why he should do everything that I like?. Once in an interview steven said: "... cause progressive its self is combining rock with other genres, like pink Floyd which combined blues with rock, this is good, bit I like to play my music and my music can be categorized any genre " . So when I found my artist so wise and intelligent I decided sit and let him do what he believes in. if Being played on radios becomes composer's goal u should cry for that music. Sometimes u should ignore fans and this is why my steven wilson has made some of the most pure progressive songs.
I’ve never left a comment before on any video anywhere but feel compelled to say that that was the best Steven Wilson interview I’ve ever seen. Might be the best interview with any musician about the music industry vs the entertainment industry. I love his music. And just for the record, if you’re driving around Los Angeles, you will definitely hear Porcupine Tree blasting out of my car.
I have been looking forward to either hearing PT or SW music coming out from the car next to me in traffic and vice versa and giving that person a thumbs up. I am 67 and still hold hope that day will come.
Great interview Rob, Steven is a very intelligent and humble down to earth guy. I am a songwriter/composer in the Latin market, was introduce to PT's music through a sound engineer I was recording project in Southern California. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" was the first song a heard, and went on a ride that took me to another musical world. Since I am also a drummer percussionist, Listening to Gavin's time signatures and the way he compliments PT's recordings, I couldn't resist to listening to their whole catalog. I've been a fan ever since, I'm in my 50's and has introduced PT's music to my two daughters, who happened to be musically incline, and they love the music as well. We already bought tickets to go see PT at the Greek Theatre this month. Will be my first experience watching them live, so thrilled and happy to share this moment with my daughters. My daughter's have their personal list of songs that they love, Trains, Open Car,... to name a few and my list could go on and on. Steven is a genius and a great songwriter/composer, We will have the pleasure on giving him and PT a standing ovation well deserved this coming 30th of September at the Greek Theatre. Like Ringo always says " Peace and Love" everybody ✌✌
What a fantastic interview! As a huge SW and PT fan, I found your questions and conversation with Steven very engaging and insightful. One music lover to another. Loved this!
Steven, I think the way you ran your career is genius! You professionally taped all of your videos when you were playing live. That’s how your audience grew by seeing them on TH-cam. A boyfriend shared Waiting phase 1 with me and I loved it so much that I started researching your music and then I was hooked!! I played your music so much in my car loudly that my 84-year-old mom sings right along to it, lol. You are my favorite musician!
I discovered Porcupine Tree from an advert on the back of a magazine promoting their Signify album. I've been a fan ever since. I really enjoyed the interview and I agree with his comments about how he strives to make his music with integrity above all else.
As big of a fan as I am of Steven Wilson's, I also want to say how amazingly Rob pulled this interview off. Like, the way he talks, it doesn't sound like an interview but a conversation in which you and everyone else is invested.
I will never forget the first time I heard Pendulum's The Fountain. If it wasn't for that track I would've never known about the wonderful musician and person who is Steven Wilson as well as Porcupine Tree as a whole.
@@PatrickLarson Oh, I absolutely recommend you a lot to listen to both Pendulum and Porcupine Tree. Those are excelent bands and personally two of my favorites.
I'm saddened that Steven would be frustrated by him not basically being mainstream. I would expect him to understand that he has changed peoples lives with his music in a much deeper way any mainstream music could have. I have been listening to his music all my life and keep coming back for more. Besides Opeth, there have been few other musicians that did that to me. So it's sad to me that he doesn't realize how much the public he does have are invested in his work. As a side note, there is no other band I can listen to live and equate that with their studio work. I find that completely amazing.
I'm not sure if your first sentence is accurate to say. I don't think he was saying he's frustrated by "not being mainstream" to me, it sounds more like he's frustrated by not having gotten more exposure for creating the music he has and does *without* being forced to make music that IS mainstream, like his example with "Shallow" or other songs where it didn't feel genuine from his core. Maybe we're saying the same thing, but I think there is some distinction to be had there.
Curious if you've heard Riverside's 2015 "Love, Fear And The Time Machine"? I ask because it's the only relatively recent record (that I'm familiar with) that rivals PT's and SW's. Riverside in general make epic records, but this one most resembles PT/SW in my book.
"'I'm saddened that Steven would be frustrated by him not basically being mainstream" Totally. Why any rock/prog person would want that, is mystifying.
I think at the end of the day, Steven realizes that despite lack of mainstream media support, he has managed to break through the music business in a way that most musicians only dream about. He has the freedom to do whatever music he wants, and have rabid fans from all over the world eat, drink, and sleep whatever he puts out. As he said in this interview, he has made enough money to where he really doesn't have to worry about it anymore. That's a great place to be if you ask me. Sure, it would have been nice if he was as big as Prince - but the fact that so many people are still discovering him, is in my opinion - a unique gift. Everybody already knows about the Beatles. We've all heard of Elton John, Led Zepplin and the Stones. Over and over again. To have an artist like Steven that most people have never heard, and yet at the same time to be as massively successful as he is - is an amazing feat.
Awesome interview! Steven is such a well spoken guy! I discovered porcupine tree way after they had parted but was delighted when they reformed. Saw them last week in Amsterdam and boy what an experience that was! This was such a great and inspiring interview as a follow to that experince!
Steven in Greece your songs were played on the radio and actually this is how I found your music. There was a TV program when I was teen that played all te new "metal" songs. Blackest eyes was on the top 10 every single week. I am.so lucky I now moved to England and I will see you soon in November ♡
ThAnX so much for this interview. I love Steven Wilson and I can't get enough of him. He's a genius and an intellectual. ThAnX again for inviting him and ask him those questions.
@@RobMooreDisruptors Please ask him about how he come up with the right sound for a particular melody. For example, when he is sure that X melody should be played on a mellotron or anything else? Does he try lots of them to find the best or anything else. ThAnX in advance.
This one of the most thorough and articulate takes on rock music and its place in 2020s society that I've ever heard. Steven has a very clear perception on how the industry has changed throughout the last three decades, and how some people, both artists and musicians, have difficulty letting go of that "old school" way of creating and distributing music and attaining mainstream attention. The other seismic 21st century band that they neglected to mention was Arctic Monkeys - the last gasp of an era-defining, culture-shifting rock band that prevailed in mainstream culture, and that hasn't happened since 2005.
I stumbled upon this episode as a massive fan of both Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson here in the States. Without exception, he has been my number one on my playlist for many years. Thanks so much for posting.
Hands down the best interview with Steven I have ever seen. Can't believe that even at almost 2 hours long I could have watched more. My gateway to PT was a bootleg CD of their concert at NEARFest in 2001 (or 2000) while they were on tour promoting Lightbulb Sun. It's why Russia on Ice is my favorite PT tune.
This is brilliant. One of the best interviews on the state of the 'industry' and what it is like to try to be a musician and preserve some degree of integrity. Thank you both for this. Not that this matters too much, but my entry into Steven's music (as a lifelong trained classical and jazz musician) was through fans of Yes / Genesis / Gentle Giant / King Crimson et al., whom I have loved since I 'came of age' as a musician prior to going to college. Likewise a long-time fan of Radiohead.
Dear Steven, I wanna say thank you for your existence. I remember back in 2009 I read an article in magazine about you and Porcupine Tree. And about your upcoming album Insurgentes. It was so tasty written. I found your record and fell in love instantly. Right after that I started to acknowledge PT stuff. I even got inspired by this story of only you recording these first albums, and I started to write my own music too. Later in 2011 I got into Radiohead. Nowadays I believe it is my favorite band. So I sat and watched the whole interview with a big dumb smile on my face. There are no so many musicians whome I can call a heroes and idols, but there will be you definitely! Thank you so much!
I am adding these coments as I began listening to this interview and Steves coment about Frank Zappa brought me back to my discovering FZ in 1968 when I was 10 years of age. I can say that FZ saved my sanity by shedding light into the darkness of the society and chaotic home that I experienced then. So it took 36 years when I discovered PT to feel that light shinning again for me. I had that feeling when the Beatles came out. Thank you Steve. To thyne own self be true. I see a long and prosperous life ahead of you. Best wishes and blessings to you and yours. Sam from PDX USA
I love hearing this man just speak about anything, the interview was fantastic and it felt to me that Steven was really invested in this interview, more so than many others I've heard him in. It's funny you guys talked about social media because that's how I came to know this podcast was even a thing! Will surely stick around and check some of the other guests you've had in the show!
I must say that I've listened Harridan on a portuguese radio while I was in a shopping center some months ago. I became so happy when I realized that was Steven's voice!
Just became a very late bloomer to discover Porcupine Tree, Wow & Double Wow, these guys are amazing, so good, beautiful layers to their music, harmonies, great guitar, how can they be overlooked?
I can say without a doubt I may haven't ever discovered PT if not for Rush and Lifeson guesting on Anesthetize. Boy am I glad that happened. Great discussion.
Last comment before getting on with my day. Steve Wilson has a depth, wisdom, insight and sincerity that far surpass the artists that have fed my soul throughout my lifetime.
Mr. Wilson is a genius. He has VERY large ears, and writes from a place of razor sharp clarity. He is clearly a stellar engineer, and has great taste in guitars/equipment. He puts it all to good use! He also clearly has accumulated many extremely talented friends to work with. I feel that he deserves every kudos available!👹
Fantastic interview! You really asked great questions and let him talk. Being a fan of his music helped you too, I think. Steven is a genius and a great songwriter, and his melodic instinct is brilliant. As a musician and guitar player I have learned a lot from him, thanks to his willingness to share his insight and experiences. Looking forward to a future update!
Roger that and thank you. Will I see you at Wembley? Yes, I try to let my guests do most of the talking nothing worse that when the interviewer actually wants to be the guest, right?

Funny thing about doorways ... I'm 68 and have long ago stopped listening to radio (and any radio I know seems to fall into 3 camps: caters to boomers like me, so we are not exposed to anything new, "faux country" with cheesy fake harmonies and autotune, and pop stuff that is entirely I IV V vi chords). So I posted on Reddit guitar subreddit asking for inspiration and both Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree came up. Wow! Very prolific dude - I'm amazed I never heard of him before. But now I have so much music to listen to, its going to take me years to appreciate it all. I love the spark and the surprise ... but I have a LOT of listening to fully appreciate. But I'm very happy to have found something new (to me) worth listening to. I get what Steven is saying about the changing landscape. When I was a kid, I would save up for months to earn enough money to buy a new album (often labeled as "stereophonic but capable of being enjoyed on your monorail equipment). And when I got it I would listen to it every day for months until the point I knew every song, in order. I lost that whole process as I got older (kids and jobs and adult stuff really cut into what used to be "free time" as a kid). Maybe we should encourage parents and educators to advocate "a music hour every day" back into people's lives.
Saw them in San Francisco, they were amazing, I danced, sang, cried, headbanged, came all the way from Nicaragua, people love your music and on your terms 💙
Amazing interview! It's really nice to hear Steven talk so deeply about his career, about music, about the industry, his ambitions, etc. A truly gifted genius!
Love to be part of this "Cult music" called progressive Rock, send my best wishes to Steven Wilson he is the best he dont need to show anyone how amazing his Music is!
@@RobMooreDisruptors That's true. SW has been to Chile several times and his concerts are almost always completely sold out. It may not be in the top 10 on Billboard List, but filling stadiums in countries that are more than 10,000 Km from your country is quite an achievement.
Outstanding interview, probably the best I've seen with him in a very long time. Goes into some very interesting and insightful subjects. Made me get back "in love" with the man and his musical world I've been following since quite the beginning, after he "challenged" me with some of his latest releases. Can't wait for the show in Milan.
Permanating got a few decent rotations on french mainstream radios, some mainstream press coverage and Steven even guested on "Taratata" a famous live music french show on TV (with an extensive interview). So it"s not like he's never been out here.
Really, REALLY enjoyed it! Interview with Maynard last week (with Rick Beato) and now this one… And this one is even better! 😀 Great week! How about trying to interview Michael from Opeth?
Rick actually mentioned in one of his latest streams that he is gonna interview Steven as well, and that he's trying to schedule things at the moment. Would be really cool as well! Loved this interview, also because it allowed for lengthy answers (in the best way possible). 🤘
@@DefinitelyGerman In a couple of Rick's recent interviews, I highly suggested he interview Steven Wilson. Perhaps he listened to me as he did reach out to me. 😄
Porcupine Tree's Closure Continuation introduced me to Steven Wilson's music. I knew it in me i will be a fan of him all the way. What an amazing talent! Hats off!
Hey Steven, What attracted me to Porcupine Tree and your other projects is that you didn't write hit songs, but instead wrote incredible addicting album songs. By the way, I believe that Lazarus would have been a hit, if it had came out 10 years earlier, when all the Radio stations weren't owned by just six big (close minded) corporations.
Fan of 17 years now. Went to see PT in the OVO Arena in Wembley last Friday. One hell of a performance. 👏 Steven is definitely the greatest creative mind to ever grace the rock scene. He might not be the best guitarist nor the best vocalist but he is definitely the best composer/songwriter and knows how to write songs which enable him to shine as a guitarist and a vocalist. Having Richard Barbieri doing his mental synth helps a lot as well imo. And Gavin, well, Gavin is one of the best drummers of our time. So, they’ve got the creativity and the skill and the ability to create timeless pieces of music. I don’t think I’ve ever heard something they made and didn’t like it. I also don’t think any band on earth is so unique the way they are. As soon as I heard C/C I thought that definitely sounds like PT. There isn’t a single group out there that can sound like that. They are one of a kind. Thank you PT for bringing me so much joy and happiness throughout the last 17 years of my life. Thank you Steven for the music you made while PT were on sabbatical. Can’t imagine life without your music.
I went to the OVO show too! It's my first time going to a concert I'm a huge fan of and it was amazing! I was so lucky, they played all my favorite songs except one!
I think Steven Wilson hit the music scene too late - we had so much variety in the 80's and 90's, he would have fit in somewhere. I saw Porcupine Tree's opening show in Toronto last night and I feel like they are one of the world's musical biggest secrets.
What an awesome show it was. Hey Steven no one's there to watch the video! Lol I was so focused on the music I never even looked at the big screen really.
SW has cracked it; he has a huge catalogue, can put out what he wants and has a massive, dedicated fanbase while keeping relative anonymity in his personal life. Always look forward to what he does next 🤘🏼

"Steven Wilson: The Best Musician Who Doesn't Consider Himself a Musician"
That was easily the best interview with Steven Wilson ever. 100% honest. So well done!
Appreciate that Steve
Yeah. I enjoyed Moore's treatment of Wilson better than Beato's. Beato actually resorted to name dropping in order to prop himself up in the conversation.
Loved it too! Have you seen his recent Interview this month? It's brilliant, th-cam.com/video/khY7ICfIxmw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hIg6r4piZNh4X8LD
It was love at first note. Ever since Steven's music & lyrics is my way to decode the universe. I'm eternally grateful.

@@RobMooreDisruptors believe I randomly tried listening to “arriving somewhere but not here”. That was the first I ever heard and didn’t like it at all at first. I got bored and turned it off. Came back many months later to listen again and was blown away. Then dove head first into PT and Steven Wilson.
@@RobMooreDisruptors Fear of a Blank Planet. This was based on an internet recommendation when I expressed burnout on Dream Theater. DT: virtuosity, intensity, and all that, but lacking mellifluous quality. SW & PPT offered all that DT had/has but adds beauty. Beauty is an important quality in music, at least for me.
@@RobMooreDisruptors "Radioactive Toy" and "Nine Cats". I got instantly hooked. Two months later, "In Absentia" came out.
Try listening to the Porcupine Tree album ‘Lightbulb Sun’
Roger that, wilco!

Thank you so much, as an interviewer and a fan that means a lot

What do you think of Steven Wilson? & what did you agree or disagree with during our conversation?
I think he's one of the most brilliant artists of the last 30 years.
I’m a massive SW fan and that’s how I found the interview. It was excellent, especially when comparing his integrity and success with other artists who “got away with it.” I’m also an entrepreneur that sold a company so I’ll be looking further at your podcast/channel. Thank you!
SW and PT are the GOAT’s!
Bit o’ trivia: Chris Martin and Lou Reed were both born on March 2nd. Of course, they were born 35 years apart but still…..
Might be the best interview I've ever seen with Steven Wilson.
They're both the epitome of pretentious.
Possibly the most interesting interview I' ve seen in the music industry. Humble and honest mentality from both sides. Great work Rob! Steven you are huge!
Been loving Steven for years. One of the best.
This is hands-down the best SW interview I've seen. Great work.
This guys a genius in every sense of the word. Porcupine Tree is one of those bands that should be playing arenas, criminally underrated
No it shouldn't...
AS a fan and an interviewer it is great to read your comment thank you for taking the time to leave your first comment
I have been looking forward to either hearing PT or SW music coming out from the car next to me in traffic and vice versa and giving that person a thumbs up. I am 67 and still hold hope that day will come.
He is amazing. So creative and beautifully eloquent. His music has been part of my life for so many years- I'm so grateful.
Aw what a lovely comment, I hope your daughters get to see this. I am seeing PT at Wembley. I also rate Gavin as one of the best drummers i the world

Amazing to think this guy is 55 years old - he never seems to age!
Now that you mention it he really aged well for such a hard working guy!

Thanks, did not know about this band.
@@PatrickLarson Oh, I absolutely recommend you a lot to listen to both Pendulum and Porcupine Tree. Those are excelent bands and personally two of my favorites.
Wow...I love Pendulum and I love that track as well but I've never noticed it was made with collaboration with Steven Wilson, what a coincidence
Top tier interview. I appreciate the opportunity to listen
Listen to Plini 😉
@@PapaP86 You are right of course, I should have been more accurate with my wording :)

Thank you for this lovely comment, as an interviewer and fan this means a lot
Love Steven Wilson, and his music. Blessed to have seen Porcupine Tree live twice.
Grateful to be alive alongside with this guy, awesome.
This is the BEST Steven interview I've heard. Excellent conversation!
Easily one of the greatest interviews on the current state of the music industry and the art world on the internet. Always love hearing from SW
As both a fan and interviewer that means a lot, thank you
I am adding these coments as I began listening to this interview and Steves coment about Frank Zappa brought me back to my discovering FZ in 1968 when I was 10 years of age.
I must say that I've listened Harridan on a portuguese radio while I was in a shopping center some months ago. I became so happy when I realized that was Steven's voice!

Anesthetize was one of the entry songs for me, too
Same here.

Steve Wilson is the most creative and is a perfectionist of his style, with a high refinement in his music.
He is genius. Love his authenticity and the way he goes deep in analysis of things. Everything he makes is BIG.

I just discovered Wilson after decades of enjoying prog metal. I've been living under a rock, apparently.

Maybe we should encourage parents and educators to advocate "a music hour every day" back into people's lives.
the title is an atrocity, but I clicked to hear Wilson talk about Radiohead
Saw them in San Francisco, they were amazing, I danced, sang, cried, headbanged, came all the way from Nicaragua, people love your music and on your terms 💙
Amazing interview! It's really nice to hear Steven talk so deeply about his career, about music, about the industry, his ambitions, etc. A truly gifted genius!
Love to be part of this "Cult music" called progressive Rock, send my best wishes to Steven Wilson he is the best he dont need to show anyone how amazing his Music is!
In Chile Steven is almost mainstream I would say. His music resonates a lot with our complex, miserable, pure, joyfuly contradictory kind of lives.
I didn't know that, thank you for sharing. I wonder if Steven knows that?
@@RobMooreDisruptors He has gone to Chile quite a few times, I believe
@@RobMooreDisruptors That's true. SW has been to Chile several times and his concerts are almost always completely sold out.
It may not be in the top 10 on Billboard List, but filling stadiums in countries that are more than 10,000 Km from your country is quite an achievement.
This interview was AMAZING! That is all.
THE WORLD CAN DEF. YUS MORE PEOPLE LIKE STEVEN WILSON.

Great interview, congratulations!
Permanating got a few decent rotations on french mainstream radios, some mainstream press coverage and Steven even guested on "Taratata" a famous live music french show on TV (with an extensive interview). So it"s not like he's never been out here.
Steven Wilson is the chosen ONE!!
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) next!
Rush 2112 is a good example of doing what you want.

Thank you that is a great honour. Appreciate the comment
Thank you! 🎉Steven has become the mentor that those having ears to hear will learn deeply!
Thank you for this. Love listening to Steven Wilson bitch about things.
Porcupine Tree's Closure Continuation introduced me to Steven Wilson's music. I knew it in me i will be a fan of him all the way. What an amazing talent! Hats off!
Wow! How’d you come across C/C?
Hey Steven, What attracted me to Porcupine Tree and your other projects is that you didn't write hit songs, but instead wrote incredible addicting album songs. By the way, I believe that Lazarus would have been a hit, if it had came out 10 years earlier, when all the Radio stations weren't owned by just six big (close minded) corporations.
A very insightful and intelligent interview with Steven Wilson. This ought to be part of the Music GCSE curriculum! 👍🏻
I love how honest he is in this interview. He is an incredibly genuine and authentic person. awesome interview!!
Thank you Avaree and thanks for tuning in
I think Steven Wilson hit the music scene too late - we had so much variety in the 80's and 90's, he would have fit in somewhere. I saw Porcupine Tree's opening show in Toronto last night and I feel like they are one of the world's musical biggest secrets.
Oh wow, how was the gig. I am seeing them Wembley Arena in Nov
What an awesome show it was. Hey Steven no one's there to watch the video! Lol I was so focused on the music I never even looked at the big screen really.
Best SW interview… ever. Thank you so much!!!
Wow, thank you, as an interviewer and a fan that means a lot
SW has cracked it; he has a huge catalogue, can put out what he wants and has a massive, dedicated fanbase while keeping relative anonymity in his personal life. Always look forward to what he does next 🤘🏼
Yes I think in the end he acknowledged that both his success and failure give him quite a good niche position
Agreed
Please, schedule that follow-up interview. That was an amazing interview. You really brought out Steven's full engagement.
He's the most well known unknown musician ever.
No he isn't lmao
Cool last name
