  • The Lone Rider motobags are a semi-rigid luggage or pannier system available for a huge array of motorbikes, able to mount to existing luggage racks or alternatively, you can purchase Lone Rider's own. This vid covers the unboxing and installation of a set of Lone Rider motobags on a BMW R1250GS.
    There will be a full indepth review coming of the bags once I've had a chance to use them properly - COVID severley restricted any trips on the big tractor in 2020.

    That’s spooky timing!
    I have been looking at these recently,
    I really like how they can collapse when empty. Also that Molle system is the mutts, you can attach anything and everything to them. That’s decent.
    Not sure about a padlock, there has to be a smarter way than that surely...
    Just need to find a buyer for my Aluminium panniers now, if there’s someone out there...!?!?

    Honestly don’t know why I’d choose soft luggage over BMW’s own Bruce. Genuine BMW stuff is only £663 a pair, complete! Absolute respect to you for what you’ve done in the past. Please don’t sell yourself out Bruce, motorcyclists are quite canny people......

      @@teapotone Hi Bruce. If you feel that they’re an improvement over BMW’s hard version costing only 60% of these, and they don’t look like they’ve hit ‘every branch of the ugly tree’, then it’s down to a matter of taste. I respect that - and you.
      Personally, I’ve tried soft panniers in the past, nothing like as good quality as these, but think they’ll get grimy like mine did, and I was always worried to leave the bike.
      Please Bruce, don’t take my comments as being disrespectful of you, I really admire your zest for life, your videos (which are the next best thing to actually doing it myself!) and your stand on why you came out of the Police force. Keep up the good work!

    Kudos Teapotone and thank you for this tutorial. I watched 5 to 6 videos from Lone Rider and not a single one pointed the camera inside the bag and show in details how to fit the hard plate. All what you see is one of their guys hunched over the bag with his hands inside. For the price we are paying they should do better tutorials or provide some with the bags. Like do and don’t, how to care etc…. They should pay you for this video. 👏👏😂

    They do look like a good quality set up Bruce. Personally I’m a big fan of the Kriega US Bags as they are far easier and cheaper to adapt to any bike. Summer 2019 I took my MT09 to the Pico’s with the US30 and 2 US20’s, a Redverz Attacama Tent and Helinox Chair and table all strapped to the Frame under the (tiny) pillion bit on the MT09. Admittedly I had to cinch it down a couple of times on the long haul through France but generally we stop briefly every 2 hours anyway to give our ageing knees a stretch. Kriega US30 + 2x US20 = US Combo 70 £407. Bought a Tiger 900 Rally Pro in September, not had a chance to tour it yet though (Bloody Covid). So for £27.50 for a set of 4 sub frame loops (plus spare Straps etc) I’m good to go on the tiger with my existing Kriega kit. I do have the Triumph Aluminium Top box as well just because it makes me look cool. 👍😳

    Great video Bruce, love the way you show the genuine teapotone mistakes. I have a Kreiga rackless system but Lone Rider lockable soft luggage is definitely a product worth considering especially if someone has concerns for security. Considering the locks on hard panniers, I would suggest the Lone Rider system is more secure and you can change the locks to whatever type you want.

      Swings and roundabouts Glynn- they’re cheaper and removable (great positives), but they’re not waterproof and like other rigid systems they are prone to damage and causing injury in the event of a fall.🤷‍♂️

    Looks very similar to the Mosko moto bags system. I've got some hard aftermarket paniers for my GS but if I was looking for replacements or a panier system for my 'commuter' then these would be a serious contender. 👍

    • @maxflight777
      @maxflight777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bob, I like your comment. I was trying to figure the difference to the Mosko Moto option too. I think the inclusion of the orange liners is possibly the only thing.
      (Maybe the padlock thing too ? So many theives in the U.K. and Northern Europe)

    • @robchisholm72
      @robchisholm72 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@maxflight777 Thanks, the main difference I can see, is the Mosko's are slightly smaller at 35L & 25L compaired to Bruce's 38L & 31L. Also as you say you don't get the inner bags, ratchet spanner or that neck buff. However, you do get a couple of Molle 5L &m 4L water bottle holders included, but being ex military, I'd customise the Molle 'extras' as needed, maybe extra water or fuel or a first aid kit bla bla bla. Having just done a quick check, there's about 30 Euro's difference, with the Lone Rider being slightly more expensive, but you do get bigger bags and more bits (it appears).

    FYI, for you, R1250GS and R1250GSA owners out there with BMW's OEM racks mounted on your bikes.
    While Lone Rider tells you these Motobags will just snap into place with no work on your part, I found this statement not to be 100% accurate.
    First, you will have to remove the reflectors from the bag rails. No big deal, just 4 T25 screws.
    Next was a much greater disappointment for me. I had the Touratech toolbox mounted on my bike. I carried my tire repair and pump in it. I had to remove it to get the 38-liter bag to go onto the rack assembly. Since I had 2, 6 liter mini-bags, I just attached them to the rear of the Motobags and put my tire repair items in one of those. No big deal, but the Touratech box did lock, and the Lone Rider mini bags don't have any way to lock them.
    Another thing I'm not impressed with about these bags is the crummy adjustable strap and "J" hook mounting system they provide to mount items to the mollie system. I just can't seem to get a secure attachment. These mollie straps always seem too loose. Lacing the rear mounting straps is also difficult. These rear straps are elastic, but when you're lacing them through the mollie attaching points, they seem just a few millimeters too short. My hands were literally aching when I was finished.
    I also have a hard time securing the aluminum locking system. I just can't get them to slip together easily. I had to pack a punch in my tank bag so I could get the pin to slide into the slot. It's not a big issue. I just don't believe how easy the Lone Ride youtube videos make it look.

    Hi, I am considering purchasing these bags. How satisfied are you with them after a year of use?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now they have the quick release system, I think they’re a great pannier system. The bags easily take any kit you’d need for a trip away, they’re totally waterproof, look great, and don’t effect the handling of the bike.
      If you’re in the market for panniers then I’d stand by these definitely.

    Great video bud but no, what a faff getting them on and off yes the ally ones have they're faults but christ they are easy to work with and plenty of waterproof inner bags available, the bracketry looks like it's from a hardware store especially the exhaust side where it has to curve over the exhaust, I bought the givi trekkers for my 1200 6 years ago and have still have them on my new 1250 40 yrs model, they are bigger than the bmw ones and I think better made, the frames look tired on mine now but they've done some miles, plus you can't put teapotone stickers on material bags that's the most important thing 😂👍

      The Lomo’s whilst cheap aren’t in the same league at all.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair to them they’re about the same price as other metal box panniers on the whole.
      I like the dry bag system too though, same as Lomo do, but you can’t compare them like-for-like with proper box-type panniers. The box-type luggage offers greater capacity, better protection and greater security, PLUS you can then use the roll bag type luggage strapped across the back of the bike to increase capacity further if you wanted.👍

    • @shaunstewart4064
      @shaunstewart4064 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CommonsFilms I agree but they don't have to be. The medium bags are currently £58 a pair. If they last 10% of the time, you are still quids in by a good margin.

    I thought they looked impressively versatile until the insanely ridiculous faff bolting them to the racks irrevocably put me off. I’d rather have aluminium panniers that quickly clip & lock on without tools in a few minutes even if they do allegedly have some other disadvantages (= alleged disadvantages which as yet I haven’t had in 50k+ miles). As far as I can tell the only real advantage of the Lone Riders for me is a possible weight saving, which considering their cost is a burden I will happily bear!

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They actually weigh about the same as traditional aluminium panniers - around 6kg each
