At age 61 it's refreshing to hear folk saying about how good valve amps and "volume" ads to the excitement in a band environment. I love Friedman amps and the pink taco v2 especially but having owned a Fryette Pittbull 50CL for 2 decades, it's hard to see much past that amp.

You guys are great, Merry Christmas! I can't believe how much Magnatone want for the Slash model. The 100 watt head and cab combo is over $8000.00, that's absolutely ridiculous! I totally agree about Amps being better than modelers too, no comparison live but I really love modelers for bedroom playing and (some) recording! My dream amp currently is the Jake JEL-20 signature combo, it's a thing of freaking beauty!
Dave Friedman, love your amp tones,got hooked through the Line 6 Helix,I’ve been wanting the Taco V.2 but couldn’t afford it so I ended up getting the IR-X, I’ll get the Taco someday. Cheers!
When I got it I started that way just for the effects but I switched to just using analog pedals, I have the helix rack and stomp, I love both the IRX and the Helix for different reasons and different applications. Sometimes experimenting with different analog pedals is fun.
the whole thing of bad sounding concerts started with the use of line array columns and loads of subwoofers sucking all the mid frequencies that we all love,old horn systems went down to 70 Hz and they were just enough,more punch and definition all the way
Gentleman Jack should be sipped and appreciated, not mixed. That's what standard Jack is for. Mixing it with egg nog may be acceptable for this time of year. Ice is also acceptable, however standard Jack is excellent iced. Just one drunk's opinion.
It’s a shame that the rising costs of touring have really pushed modelers into this negative idea. I have multiple rigs and of course the modelers are usable, but I totally understand Dave’s opinion. It’s too bad the artists can’t seemingly afford the pay cut of having tube back lines. Plus, it is pretty amazing how much a small piece of gear can do (extreme numbers of extensive effects in one small box)…..great show.
Players can trash talk Dimarzio all they want but all i know is their PAF Pro pickup was a tone lifesaver for me! I tried just about every P.A.F style p'u out there(over 75 of them!) and the PAF pro was the only one i kept coming back to. First tried it way back in 89 in a Ibanez RG and really loved it because it was a little hotter but still could play any style of music with it. Works great with dingle coils.

The ONLY reason I got back into playing in a band, in December 2022 after an almost 20 year band break, is because we use 100 watt tube amps and 4x12 cabs to play Rock N Fucking Roll!!! Well, not the only reason, but top two. Sound guys shit when we roll in. Been playing for over 45 years, there is no other way to really rock.

Often ill listen well several times , this is 4th time this episode , its amazing what i miss just listening once . U really haven't heard a song until u go learn to play it . Or hear dark side of the moon with gd headphones staring out the window during a thunder/lighting storm . Uninterrupted.
Just curious, does the JEL 20 have more gain than the regular BE channel on the 100 deluxe? I don’t really use the hbe that much and prefer the be channel so I’m wondering if the jel would give me another gain flavor different enough to justify buying?
I think the biggest problem with "tone" now is we don't have to fight with an amp to get great tone.... forcing an amp to sound how you wanted it to helped players get their own "sound" .. now every thing you plug into sounds pretty damn great without any effort what so ever
Gibson is not suing Dimarzio. They are trying to get the trademarks that Dimarzio legally and rightfully own overturned in the courts. There is absolutely no lawsuit. Also, Dimarzio does not own P.A.F. trademark. They own the word PAF. Not the acronym, the word PAF.
Pete if you need an assistant, I’m available. Seems your work load has increased this year. To the question of broken plexi : Plexis sound broken by design. Try a Bassman, they sound broken too. That’s what the Marshall plexi is copied from. If you can’t do at breakup or beyond, maybe it’s time to look into a different type of amplifier for your needs. If you’re not happy with your plexi, we should talk, something can be worked out. There are some people that go to concerts or a local show and get right up front at the stage. Because they want their heads ripped off by the guitars ear piercing celestians pointed directly at their heads. lol… I really want to go to NAMM, I’ve never been and really want that experience at least once. Tube amps are a living breathing entity that have personalities of their own. They love being on stage and looking cool as fuck. And they get to kick everyone’s ass with the power and the air they push. I remember back in my early years with just starting to play in bands and having home stereo mixed into the crappy guitar amp I had to make it louder. And doing everything I could think of to sound good with what we had to work with and of course never had enough money to buy the good stuff or the correct stuff. Love the stories you guys have shared. Always the best to y’all… Happy holidays…
