Since I did and oversaw these animations, I'll explain some of these. Obviously a lot of these flaws are either carry-overs from Half-Life 2 or for game balance reasons, so I'll skip those. Pistol (USP Match): The slide clipping through the hammer was my fault. I don't have modelling skills but I had to fix up the pistol model. Because of that, there's a lot of flaws in that model, with the weird part of the slide being one of them. The Pulse Pistol doesn't have this issue because it was actually done by our modeller. P220: I find it odd that you don't mention the "Benetti Nova", which is the in-lore name of the Nova from CS:GO, but you do with "Triaton", even though it's on the model of the L4D2 P220. .357 (Python): This one has a lot that I'm aware of. The reason I decided to "spin" the casings out is because the model doesn't have a modeled ejector or crane and the team wanted the revolver to be as flashy as possible. I'm also aware that on most revolvers you can't pop the cylinder out nor spin it with the hammer cocked. SMG1 (MP7): The reason it's ejecting pistol casings is because Half-Life 2 only has 3 shell casing models: pistol, rifle, and shotgun shells. We've replaced the rifle shells so that the Pulse Rifle can eject the pellets during the reload, thus only leaving us with the pistol casings to work with. The SMG1 also ejected pistol shells in HL2 I believe. Crossbow: According to some Valve concept art, the string is motorized, which is why it pulls back by itself. SPAS-12: I am well aware of the carrier latch but I decided not to do it because it would make the transition to and from reloading longer and I didn't want pose it as such.
Honestly for somebody like me, the only issue was the revolver and the weird thing with the bullets always being in. But honestly im very grateful that you replaced animations, Makes playing the game WAY better. So thank you.
I actually sympathize with you on this one. I used to work with Source Engine awhile back. I understand the limitations of the models. Hell, this channel was originally about posting some of my Gamebanana stuff.
I hate that thing they do in CoD, where the camera keeps spasming/shaking during reload, as if you're playing the game from the POV of a spring-mounted gopro attached to the stock of a rifle.
The SLAM also has a side attack mode, so one could say that the laser is based off of that, albeit still wrong. Source: Wikipedia Quote: The SLAM is equipped with a passive infrared sensor (PIRS) that was specifically developed for the side-attack mode. The PIRS detects trucks and light armored vehicles by sensing the change in background temperature when a vehicle crosses in front of the PIRS port. The PIRS is directional and aligned with the EFP when the device is aimed. The side-attack mode is active when the SLAM selector switch is set to 4, 10, or 24 hours-and the PIRS cover is removed to expose the PIRS.
In my headcanon, the Spas 12 in the Half Life universe is a Black mesa modified type made for the military, the shotgun being given the ability to shoot 2 rounds in sequence.
One problem I have with the weapons in Entropy Zero 2 is just how much recoil there is. In Opposing Force you can clearly see that Shephard has more recoil control when firing his weapons, because he's a trained soldier who's been taught to handle weapons professionally. Same goes for this mod, as it makes no sense that a nerdy scientist like Gordon Freeman would have more recoil control than a combine soldier who's been trained to use these weapons for YEARS.
@@Iresu_ Even before the combine’s takeover he was a prison guard. So he’s still most likely trained to handle guns before he was even in civil protection.
@@solaerwig tbf you never really see combine go full auto on an ar2, mainly because soldiers are also trained to not spray and pray but rather fire in controlled bursts (also game design)
another issue with the revolver is him spinning the cylinder after he closes it, the only way to spin the cylinder like that is to halfway hold the hammer so it doesn't lock in place. hl2 did the same thing, but it's still of note
I like how you're fair, even on games you like, for the sake of consistency. I can excuse most of these because they're just being consistent with half life 2 as it is, I wouldn't blame them even if they just recycled their animations in the first place, but they did a fantastic job with them anyways
To be fair the pistol is only used in the intro of the game and the smg, shotgun, and rocket launcher are all probably combine produced weapons that just look like real guns
1:59 Not to mention that the Colt Python is a double-action revolver (just like in the original Half-Life 2) while in-game it's incorrectly depicted as single-action.
I guess the excuse that some of this weapons have is Combine technology such as the AR2 but still it doesn't excuse the more stupid flaws that several weapons have in the game.
Additional sins: The regular AR2’s reloading animation involves switching to a new plug, which each are supposed to hold one round (not 30), rather than the whole magazine itself (like the user is supposed to change when actually reloading). Also, when the reserve AR2 ammo is empty, but the AR2 still has rounds on it, the spare 30-round plug is still seen even though it should not be there, coupled with the fact that there are no unequip animations for ANY weapon on HL2 and E:Z2. When the user is supposed to use the scope for the crossbow, he never aligns the scope with his eyes nor the scope reticle/overlay is used, the camera basically zooms in and that’s it. Like vanilla HL2, EZ2 lacks ADS (aim down sights) functionality, as both games always involve users firing from the hip. As a result, the MP7’s holographic sight is unusable and is merely just a decoration.
bro, literally the AR2 is a fictional weapon and the magazine is always attached to the gun. If you have ever played half life alyx, (which I see you have not done) when you add the extended magazine upgrade to the Pulse SMG that is like a AR2's "prototype", it always has its magazine attached to the weapon and to reload it you must use the small AR2's bullets to be able to reload, without needing to change the magazine. And answering your other questions, half-life never had ADS functionality on the weapons and having a simple sight does not force them to have to use the holographic sight. It's like saying that if the gun has an iron sight, then you should be able to aim it. which doesn't make sense since in all valve games the player always shoots from the hip. And yes, it is true that the crossbow lacks an aiming function since it does not have animations but they simply did not include it.
@@damnit628 Plus, NPCs welding the AR2 in HL:2 are seen manually reloading by actually switching the magazine, and you pick up ammo from that weapon by the magazine, not the individual plug.
@@damnit628 I understand that the current AR2’s animation in Half-Life Alyx is used, but that is because the game has a different development team than Half-Life 2’s.
@@pta03 That is already a programming error, but it is true since somehow the player has to know if the enemy is reloading or not, right? In addition, the error in the reloading animation may be due to the fact that originally in the beta, the AR2 was going to make an AK47 with a magazine that could be removed. (They probably forgot to remove the AK47 reloading animation in third person.)
