  • Fair Use. In this excerpt from the 1994 motion picture "Corrina Corrina," you have the chance to see how much liner notes mean to Corrina, a woman who earns her living as a nanny/housekeeper even though she aspires to be a music journalist. "Corrina, Corrina" stars Whoopi Golderg, who plays Corrina, and Ray Liotta, who plays her employer/recent widower Manny. His daughter, Molly, is played by Tina Majorino.
Manny shares Corrina's love for music as he writes jingles for an ad agency. The movie is set in the 1950s when music is increasingly available to wider markets via vinyl records, many of which have liner notes, or commentary often written by a journalist/critic, but sometimes others including musicians. Anecdoctal information or descriptions about the music on an album manifest as such notes that used to be presented on the inner sleeve or back of album. Although seen on CDs, or compact discs years later, liner notes are rarely written for newly released music anymore. The music of jazz pianist Bill Evans is heard in one scene of this clip.
