  • Jennifer from Nature Reliance School takes us around the yard to learn about the numerous edible and medicinal plants we walk over every day. Things like Plantain, Wood Sorrel, Redbud, Violets and many more! Then we head to the new cabin to cook on the Big Green Egg. Tonight it's a simple but delicious Sesame Orange-Glazed Duck with dipping sauce!
    ORANGE DUCK:
    Whole Duck
    Sesame Oil
    Garlic Powder
    Salt and Pepper
    1/2 orange
    Coat duck with sesame oil and top with seasonings. Place half of orange in duck cavity. Place on Big
    Green Egg for 2 1/2- 3 hours minutes at 325/350 degrees.
    DIPPING SAUCE
    3 tablespoons orange marmalade
    2 teaspoons soy sauce
    Dash peanut sauce
    2 tablespoons honey
    Dash garlic powder
    Dash ginger
    Dash sesame oil
    Heat ingredients together in sauce pan until warm and combined.

    Wood Sorrel is what we called Sourleaf clover when we were growing up. Very good flavor to it. Thanks for another video.

    A few pawpaw trees on your property and you will have some good fruit to enjoy when squirrel hunting

    Awesome and informative video! One thing I did notice was the "Henbit" was actually Purple Dead Nettles which is a very common mistake. Luckily, both are perfectly edible so no worries.

      Another name is henbit dead-nettles, so it's most likely the same plant.

    Chickweed, in many areas, is also seen in the fall when temps are cooler and the rains come.

    Broadleaf plantain, in my experience, is not stringy and tough if the leaves are picked when young. It can be eaten raw, but is also good cooked, and becomes even more tender. Redbud: the young, shiny leaves are ediblem and the young pods are, also - three different crops from the same tree!

    Tim, I hate to be THAT PERSON, but a word in your intro video is misspelled. Palate, not palette. Just found your channel, enjoying it immensely, congrats on the recovery from your accident. Keep up the good work.

    • @TimFarmerCK
      @TimFarmerCK  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well since you designated yourself as THAT PERSON, you'll have to suffer the consequences. If you notice, the open is cartoonish and fun. We talked about 'maters, taters, etc. YE are what eat. ETC. Tongue in cheek. Country humor if you will. The spelling was done on purpose by the artist who did the graphics. But keen eye. Congrats. Your mom should be proud.

    • @anonymous-zn5em
      @anonymous-zn5em 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Guilty as charged, your honor...(head hanging in shame). What's wrong with 'maters and 'taters? everybody knows what those are.

      I will be lenient in my sentencing this time. But only this one time. Your sentence is listening to two songs by Marty Robbins from one of his cowboy albums. You may sing along, if you feel led to do so. I will waiver court costs this time........
