this is such a good question and i've been thinking about it deeply (maybe too much) i think i'll make a favorites shelf tour and include my answer (this way, i have even more time to think)
Love your take on Carley's favorite books and the editing * chef's kiss *. I'm a fan of Carley's personality and her content. I've read two books from her favorite author (Sally Rooney) and realized that we're also not literature compatible 😅 (and that's ok). Looking forward to seeing more content from you!
yessssss the cross-over episode i absolutely needed. i picked up norwegian wood around 4 years ago and DNF’d it over the yuck?? i kinda want to try it again. definitely gonna check out wendy cope tho!
I loved this! Carley is one of my favorites, but I picked up one of her favorites-Normal People-and absolutely despised it. That being said, EVERYONE seems to love Rooney, so maybe I'm the problem! I do need to give more of her faves a chance, of course, because I love her. Again, great video, I subbed!
It really says something about how much I love your channel that I genuinely enjoyed a video with some of the worst books I've ever read (I DESPISE Murakami's and Rooney's books so much and really hated Exciting Times)! When a booktuber is like "oh I'm a Sally Rooney girly" I usually move my mouse closer to the "unsubscribe" button lol Really happy that's not the case for you ahah
Can't wait for Carley to watch this and blow your channel up (fingers crossed knock on wood let's hope that happens!) Also I'm now fully inspired to buy Wendy Cope's book
Norwegian Wood isn’t really a good book to start with Murakami. Maybe Kafka on the Shore or Hardboiled Wonderland or A wild sheep chase. But if you think the sex stuff was weird in Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the shore might be pushing it lol.
@@allisonpaiges yeah, Murakami basically has 2 styles of books, more vanilla postmodern fiction , which is what Norwegian Wood is, and his super surrealist magical realism work, which all those books I mention fall into. After Dark was fun. I liked the “takes place in one night” aspect of it. This one has a taste of his kind of surrealist leanings in the whole sleeping beauty sister’s liminal dream limbo half of the book, but if you really wanna know what made Murakami so huge across the globe, you definitely wanna try one of his crazy books. Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is fantastic but its the densest and I’d say the least accessible of these books. For my final recommendation I’d say read Hardboiled Wonderland if you want a fun trippy adventure that’s as weird as it gets, and read Kafka on the shore if you really wanna jump into the deep end with a pretty dark, depressing, sexually fucked up, weirdo odyssey. But it does have I character who can talk to cats and colonel sanders and Johnny walker make an appearance, so that’s fun. Lol.
I feel like it's pretty hard to find good booktubers or at least I personally only like a few , this is the first video of yours that I've watched and I love it and your opinion about books so you know I subscribed
FINALLY A REAL REVIEW OF EXCITING TIMES! I also gave it two stars, as an Asian it’s so annoying already how white people just use Asia as a place to rethink your life and everything. I love the dark humour and I get the mental health theme but I mean why not make the location central Europe or something where a lot of TEFL teachers are! The book is just so white haha
Ok I know this comment is super old but I think she was living in Hong Kong when she wrote it? Doesn’t deal with it being perhaps an icky choice and part of a broader racist pattern in how we represent Asia in the West but I guess she knew it better than other TEFL places (I also did not like this book 😂)
As a fellow European i need to ask THE question, where do you get your books from online? Cause shipping is a real bitch sometimes and I’m trying to find alternatives.
AH a crossover between 2 of my faves!! Maybe next you could read Leena Norms favourite books I just discovered her this year and I’m COMPLETELY OBSESSED. As for celebrities Emma Watson? Natalie Portman? Phoebe Bridgers? Phoebe Waller Bridge? Those are just some suggestions you could do anyone and I would watch
I read Normal people by Sally Rooney and I didn’t understand the hype. It felt kind of icky and I literally have no other word to describe it. Thank you for making this video I feel this might get me out of this horrendous reading slump I am currently in. (Not read since February 😕)
YEAHHHH norwegian wood made me mad. the misogyny!!!!!!!!!!!! the way the narrative BLAMED a child for supposedly seducing an adult???? it's a no from me dawg.
Had the problem with Kafka on the shore too. I hated all the sex scenes, incest, rape. From a female perspective I was repulsed and couldn't enjoy the rest of the book
🗣️I think I heard you say in a past video that TH-cam doesn't pay you and I have to say that is just so rude because your videos are lovely and your editing it so great jsjs 🗣️
Murakami's writing about women and sex...🙄 I think I stopped reading his books ten years ago. I have read both Sally Rooney. Conversations with Friends was kind of okay, but also problematic and I hated Normal People. Not an author for me. What did you put into your Matcha latte? I would love to see you reading Books and Bao's favourite books. I love their channel. Very much Asian related content, so there might be a theme in your reading then.
the editing... i cannot
vibing with the background music
lets start internet beef over our differing catcher opinions
keemstar will be all over it
Carley!!! You’re famous!! The tables have ultimAtely turned and YOU ARE THE CELEBRITY
she said "uncarley's favorite books" and i sat there trying to figure out what she'd read because carley says practically everything is her favorite
it'll be so cool if you did this with Jack Edward's favorite books
the *slapping cat noises* "CAMP ROCK!" was an INSTANT subscribe hdsfjsdhkjfgkj
hahaha if there’s any reason anyone subscribes - i hope it’s that 🎈
this video's interpretation of norwegian wood is literally the most accurate one i've heard ever
I have a question: if anyone, in a possible future, would like to make a video like this reading YOUR favorite books, what would they be?
this is such a good question and i've been thinking about it deeply (maybe too much)
i think i'll make a favorites shelf tour and include my answer (this way, i have even more time to think)
I couldn't agree more with your rating on Norwegian Wood, thank you lol
obsessed with the honest murakami take
Im so thankful because I found you through this video and now this is my favorite channel. I came back to this video today and it made me so happy 😊
the crossover we never knew we needed!! love you both
THE QUALITY OF YOUR VIDEOS IS INSANEEEEE this is so satisfying to watch!!!!
:') :') :')
I subscribed within the first ten seconds--THIS EDITING
yessssss I love both of you and it’s so interesting that you felt so differently about a lot of her faves! Makes me more excited to read them ahhh
I have the exact same inexplicable disinterest in Sally Rooney's books

I’m absolutely obsessed with uncarley, of course I’d be obsessed with this video
I think it would be cool if you tried Noel Gallagher’s favorites or Books and LaLa’s. 👍🏻
yeeeees try Lala’s faves 💞
the catcher slander WILL be tolerated
yessssss the cross-over episode i absolutely needed. i picked up norwegian wood around 4 years ago and DNF’d it over the yuck?? i kinda want to try it again. definitely gonna check out wendy cope tho!
there was a lot of yuck - definitely recommend serious concerns tho!
Mail time! Mail time! haha that was my favorite part to be honest, just really enjoyed how you edited that part
those shots of reading in the window, with that view. you are living the dream!!
YES! The only channels I watch are you and Carley!!!!
i loved every second of this
Surprised at how professional this looks for a small channel.
hey thanks!
I loved this! Carley is one of my favorites, but I picked up one of her favorites-Normal People-and absolutely despised it. That being said, EVERYONE seems to love Rooney, so maybe I'm the problem! The mere fact you used that theme from Luigi's Mansion on the issue about _The catcher in the rye,_ gosh, it was so damn funny.
Serious Concerns is now in my shopping cart. Surprisingly hard to find a good copy and my library was like "Wendy Cope who??"
It really says something about how much I love your channel that I genuinely enjoyed a video with some of the worst books I've ever read (I DESPISE Murakami's and Rooney's books so much and really hated Exciting Times)! Really happy that's not the case for you ahah
loved this video! she's one of my fave booktubers bc we have the same taste and i'm narcissistic and like having my opinions reinforced :)
Please cover Emma from emmie reads
I'm definitely gonna check her out. I'm very glad you're posting constantly. I also tried your recipe of scallion pancakes the other day...gnaaaaaaam!

Can't wait for Carley to watch this and blow your channel up (fingers crossed knock on wood let's hope that happens!) Also I'm now fully inspired to buy Wendy Cope's book
HOW THE TURNTABLES…
I really love listening to the audiobooks of Conversations with Friends and Exciting Times.
Norwegian Wood isn’t really a good book to start with Murakami. Maybe Kafka on the Shore or Hardboiled Wonderland or A wild sheep chase. But if you think the sex stuff was weird in Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the shore might be pushing it lol.
i’ve read from him before! “after dark” about a year ago ☺️ thanks for the recs 🌼

The book is just so white haha
sounds about white
yessss i DNFed it for the same reason
I also thought Ava’s relationship with Julian was so boring it was hard getting through the first section because of it
Ok I know this comment is super old but I think she was living in Hong Kong when she wrote it? Doesn’t deal with it being perhaps an icky choice and part of a broader racist pattern in how we represent Asia in the West but I guess she knew it better than other TEFL places (I also did not like this book 😂)
This is such a good video, I don’t know you, but now I do!
hey big cheese! thank you! welcome!
I felt the same about Exciting Times! great vid ◡̈
When worlds collideeeee!!!!! We love to see it!
I heard the synopsis of Exciting Times and was like... this is just Lost in Translation, the book.
As a fellow European i need to ask THE question, where do you get your books from online? Cause shipping is a real bitch sometimes and I’m trying to find alternatives.
